What are you guys planning to do? (assuming no banks come up with response) I'll keep my charge card, and probably 2 other credit cards max.
I probably will switch back to debit card only as my annual spending is not high enough to absorb the service fee at the moment cry.gif

Hi all, I have subscribed to e-statement via M2U last month but I still receive paper statement for my Amex this month... wonder why...
All AMEX Gold credit cardholders seem to be receiving the paper statement even though all have opted not to when putting in the application form. As long as they do not charge you the RM5 then don't have to worry much biggrin.gif

Er... what's the point of keeping when it can't be used? I ain't the type to wanna show off; it's more for the benefits tongue.gif [but I haven't had a chance to make use of them!] lol
For nostalgic reason. And also for collection laugh.gif I still keep my cancelled CIMB Bank Gold Mastercard, Maybankard AMEX and AMEX Green Charge Card inside the drawer. All still in tip-top condition sweat.gif

Any chance they'll waive the RM25 payable to enrol into MR for green charge cards? I mean, it's free for gold and plat charge cards, but they decide to charge on the green charge cards =.=

Also, do they offer ppl upgrades like from green to gold, say if I'm an active user. Or it's a must to resubmit financials to show I qualify for a gold or somethin
Last time they were charging enrollment and annual fee for MR non-frequent or frequent traveller option too AMEX Gold Charge Card. I wondered after 3-year into using the card, will AMEX Gold Charge Cardholders need to pay annual fee to enroll for MR ? Or the rule has changed for good and AMEX Gold Charge Cardholders do not need to pay for MR enrollment fee anymore ?

Strange, I am using the Amex cc that bro MilesMore posted to pump petrol and the receipt shows MaybanKard Amex....

and why they have two types of gold cc? Any differences?
They have three types of AMEX Gold credit card actually.
- Maybankard AMEX Gold credit card
- Maybank Ikhwan AMEX Gold credit card by Maybank Islamic
- American Express Gold credit card.

The main difference would be the privileges. A true American Express Gold credit card entitles you for 5xMR points at participating stores.

You just need to check your points in your M2U. Don't have to worry what it is written in the receipt. Just a few days ago when i paid for something at a supermarket using my HSBC VISA, the receipt shows me paying by Maybankard VISA instead rclxub.gif

They rejected my AMEX but accepted my Mastercard. With AMEX, you just have to be prepared for rejection and after a while, you start asking yourself, what for keeping this card? Barely 2 months of having this card, I am having enough.
You guys need to look for the AMEX sign before handing your AMEX to the teller. Most smaller stores do not accept AMEX, just like in the USA where AMEX originates.

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Oct 29 2009, 09:32 PM)
Small stores? I would not call Petronas, Insurance company and a major shop in a major tourist frequented area like LCCT small.
I do not know why wouldn't most Petronas stations accept AMEX.

Anyway, Most insurance companies do not accept AMEX due to the sky high merchant fee. LCCT might not be small, but Old Town is. Old Town is just a small Malaysian coffee house chain. If the big players such as McDonalds and KFC do not accept AMEX, i am not surprised at all if Old Town do not accept AMEX.

We do not know what are the terms Maybank and American Express agreed on when Maybank took over their business in Malaysia a few years ago. Maybank probably is paying them millions of dollars in royalty fee alone every year which is why Maybank has been promoting AMEX so fiercely in the last couple of months. Besides, most likely American Express USA is also getting a cut of their total sales using the AMEX brand in Malaysia besides the annual royalty fee. It means that the cost is extremely high. So we can't really expect Maybank to lower down the merchant commission at the moment.

Even in the USA, many stores also do not accept AMEX. The Americans have been complaining about this too but still many people are using it. I personally have no problem using AMEX. As a matter of fact, before my mom cancelled her AMEX Green Charge Card in September, she managed to redeem RM600 of vouchers and RM300 cash rebate and she's been using the card for only eight months drool.gif

QUOTE(ellimist @ Oct 29 2009, 10:15 PM)
Well yes, as pointed out, acceptability in Malaysia is unfortunately on the low side. If most of the places you frequent does not accept Amex, then the card simply doesn't suit you. Some on the other hand, swipe rather large amounts over time at the places they frequent
Totally agree with ellimist. If the places you frequent do not accept AMEX, then it is not the card for you.

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Oct 29 2009, 10:45 PM)
For Dell computer, they tried to talk you out of using it.
Did you buy it online ? Nobody called to ask me to use another card when i placed an order online last year. I was using the Maybankard AMEX Gold then. We only switched to charge card in February this year. But then it wouldn't make any difference between an AMEX credit card or charge card as the merchant fee is the same.

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Oct 29 2009, 10:45 PM)
For everyday expenses like petrol, Petronas dont' want them either. So what else do you do with it?
As suggested last time, switch to SHELL then.

Any shop in a big major INTERNATIONAL airport not accepting credit card is unthinkable. Does not matter how big or small is the shop. If Old Town not in LCCT, I can also understand them not accepting AMEX.
Do they accept VISA or Mastercard ? I didn't know they accept credit card as a payment option at all.

Old Town is not the only one. There are many shops that do not accept credit card at international airports that are a few times bigger than KLIA/LCCT such as in Changi, Chek Lap Kok, Rhein-Main and Charles de Gaulle. Even the Burger King in KLIA domestic airside terminal and satellite terminal also do not accept credit card.

6) Most of the places I patronise  accept AMEX e.g. Parkson, MPH, Pizza Hut,..and I get 2X points for all retail purchases
7) Get 5X points when I sign-up for Autopay with Maxis & Telekom, 2x points for Astro.
Same here. Most of the places i frequent all accept AMEX. Lucky me rclxms.gif

I meant to ask, are there any free travel insurance for Gold Credit Card? I don't recall seeing it. Would appreciate the link.
No. All the AMEX do come with a personal travel insurance except for the Gold credit card.

That is what I thought. That would be one more reason not to use AMEX Gold CC for buying airline tickets. So far, I am finding more reason not to renew this card when the RM50 charges kicks in next year.
I was planning to get both the AMEX Gold credit card and AMEX Gold charge card next year with me being the principal cardholder that is. But i am having a second thought now since the government announced they are going to charge us for having credit cards mad.gif

Charge Card
- annual fee about RM100+ but at the moment still waived

For principal Gold card, the normal annual fee is RM238. As for supplementary Gold card, it is RM125/pa. For newly applied Personal and Gold Charge Card, the annual fee for the first 3-year is automatically waived. After that you will need to call in every year.

QUOTE(my44 @ Oct 30 2009, 09:00 PM)
- balance and MR points can check at amexmalaysia website, not mb2u
- turbo rewards 3x is available for RM50 fee
If i'm not mistaken, it's been raised to RM100. RM50 is the old rate.

can anyone tell me how long does it take to receive the redemption item after called up the cs for redemption?
Approximately two to three weeks. Usually just two. But then i stay in East Malaysia, it's probably faster in the Peninsular.

so can anybody confirm getting their amex transaction go thru at the selected malls during the 15% cashback promotion? dont want to go to the extent of asking the shop, 'can use amex here ar?', before committing to shop at their premise.
Look for the AMEX logo at the entrance or near the cashier register.
