she macam waived for her charge card (RM2380) instead of this CC (RM800) oh, but in fact, yes she is a BIG customer!  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
She doesn't have the charge card (or she probably didn't tell us, LOL !). Am sure the one she managed to get the fee waived is Platinum credit card (white in color).

By the way, i think Reventon also managed to get it waived too. In fact, Reventon was the first one to get it waived rclxms.gif

Like is has in other parts of the world ? AMEX does not even offer debit card in US. They do have gift card though.

From AMEX website, American Express Personal Card is Lifetime Fee Waiver and Non Frequent Traveller Option annual fees of RM25 will be waived, is that real?

Source:
http://www.americanexpress.com.my/amx_info...CB-CardBenefits
Yes. It is. You no longer have to pay RM25 a year to earn MR points anymore. Last time this offer only applies to the Gold Charge and Platinum Charge Card.

Hi all..I saw banner for AMEX gold card at maybankard center.

It is stated there free for life?? Any of u guys have any infor bout it as when I read the brochure it is stated annual fees is RM248 (3 years waived)

Which 1 is accurate?
Both are accurate. Just that you've been mixing AMEX Gold credit card with AMEX Gold charge card. Both are different products. AMEX Gold credit card is the free for life card while the AMEX Gold charge card is only free for the first 3-year, after that you'll have to call in every year to get them to waive the annual fee for you.

er..what's the difference between charge card and credit card?

Charge card doesn't come with a pre-assigned credit limit.

QUOTE(Hamilton @ Mar 10 2010, 02:39 PM)
Is this a new promotion? How come the benefits so nice (5x points on certain merchants) but free for life? What's the catch here?
No. It is not a promotion and no hidden T&C. They can afford giving you so many points because AMEX charges a higher merchant fee compared to VISA and Mastercard.

Regarding to amex malaysia website, the amex express card which is green color the annual fees is lifetime fee waiver, but not yet update at maybank2u website.
Indeed it is. Green Charge Card holder also no longer have to fork out RM25/pa to enroll in the Membership Rewards Program either. This was mentioned by a fellow user about two weeks ago.

Yup the green charge card thats I mention.
Before is RM140 annual fess, but now is free for life.
Actually, previously it was free for the first three years and after that you'll have to call it once a year to get the annual fee waived, very much like the Gold Charge Card.

Hi guys smile.gif

I need to travel to Japan soon, and thought of using CC there. Is it advisable? Will there be extra charges to use Amex overseas? How widely accepted is it there?

Or would Visa be a better choice to use there?

Thanks! =D
QUOTE(yewjin @ Mar 23 2010, 11:37 PM)
Having traveled to Japan many times over the years it is ok to use CC over there. There is never extra charges for AMEX overseas especially in Japan but you may find some smaller towns who prefer cash, else you will be alright - e.g. hotels, shopping centers...
Problem is that the acceptance of AMEX in Japan is nowhere better than Malaysia. Besides, one might find the admin fee too much.

But Visa on the other hand, have no extra charges, so i might opt for Visa for this trip. Wish i could use the Amex tho, would get lots of points =D.
Maybank VISA also charges an admin fee for overseas transaction at a much lower rate at only 0.5%. And it's been reported that the exchange rate is quite good too even after factoring in the admin fee.

do you guys notice what is the difference between Membership Reward and Maybanks TreatPoint ?

MR is strictly for AMEX without any other banks logo while TP is for all Maybank VISA/MasterCard/AMEX.

I can't register my Maybank AMEX card into www.americanexpress.com.my and i saw only Platinum card able to collect membership Reward point
Not only Platinum Charge Card or Platinum Credit Card earn MR. Green Personal Charge Card, Gold Charge Card and Gold Credit Card are all on MR system. I was a Green Personal Charge Card user before.

I assume you're a Gold Credit Card holder ? That is the reason why you can't add the card to AMEX online. You can however, still view your card details on M2U.

Yea, tried a few TnG Reload center and all doesn't accept AMEX, only Visa/Master..
If HLB should accept right? Cause HLB also offer AMEX CC right?  hmm.gif
I do not think it has anything to do with the credit card processing machine they are using. More likely if the merchant itself is a client of AMEX or not. As far as i am concerned, credit card processing terminals from Maybank, CIMB Bank, Public Bank, HSBC, Citibank and UOB Bank all can process AMEX card.

If all can process AMEX why some doesn't accept AMEX CC?  hmm.gif
Because the shop you are visiting is not an AMEX merchant. So even if the credit card processing terminal they are using can process AMEX, there is no use really. It would still decline the card.

Applying Amex need to be Maybank account holder? Maybank CS ppl told me no need to be Maybank account holder and you can register with Amex directly. Not even need to fill in Bank Reference in the form. I see the requirement in maybank website that applicant need to be a maybank account holder indeed. Is there something wrong? Anyone can clarify this?
You must have a Maybank savings or current account before applying for AMEX only if you're a foreigner. I assume you're a Malaysian ? Then no. You can just apply for AMEX straight away.

Yes. I did. That was the way i used up all the MR points accumulated in the past few months before canceling my AMEX around September last year.

I wan to ask, if i never applied cc before, is it easy to get approval for AMEX Gold CC?

It depends on how the bank see you really ... So, there is no definite answer to your question.

QUOTE(yaofong @ Apr 21 2010, 03:36 PM)
is it better to get 1 more mastercard/visa beside AMEX?
Yes. Because VISA and MasterCard are accepted almost everywhere unlike AMEX.

i want to pay for my streamyx and reload my prepaid card using amex to enjoy 2x MR points.
edit:
You can sign up for auto-debit service with TM and you'll be given 5x MR points for every RM1 charged to your AMEX Gold credit card. As for prepaid card reload, you can't reload it via AMEX.
