They wouldn't need to implement this new grading system if they didn't give A1s away so cheap. Like mumeichan have said, whats with all these stupid A+ A- if the marks are still based on the curves.
To sort out students who excel in SPM? I thought there will be candidates named as top scorers every year?
I've been told many times by the elder generations that its already something worth to celebrate even if you get only ONE A back then. With that you can see how hard it is to achieve an A compared to these days.

Parents now will be comparing grades again.. "My son got 11A+, yours 11A only ah?"
I f-ing hate this..

Seconded that. There's no much difference with the previous grading system. Instead, now it makes me felt more pressure because uncles and aunties will start comparing. Thank God so far my parents didn't compare grades.

you guys are actually complaining that you'll have to work harder to get better grades? What is this world coming to? The whole reason why the Malaysian education system is shitty is because students rely on the government lowering the passing mark to dismal and now that they're actually trying to do something about it, you guys complain about having to work harder. What?

Hahaha! Malaysians, spunk. Malayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyysiaaaan.

That's why. Nothing new. And all cliche.

Some of you are missing the bigger picture.

Think of subjects like BC and BM.....and perhaps Moral. Imagine a grade higher than A1 for those subjects.

New scholarships will be given based on merit. Go figure.

QUOTE
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

now from 10 (A1) we go to 11 ( A+)

They should have inform students about the new grading system earlier. Nevertheless, I think most of you are only against it because you can't achieve maximum grade with your mediocre marks. If your average score is 85+, why bother. In fact, people who usually score high marks benefit as they can have better chances of getting scholarships.

Well, yeah pretty much. For me, the only reason i don't like to study for spm is because i don't like our education system, it's ridiculously textbook. Read after read after read, if it was something actually productive and practical, it'd be different for me. But i'm pretty sure i can score at 85+ if i was interested enough, guess i'll start now since this last minute bs.

SPM marks are based on some curve. So like the top 10% next 20% get B and so on.

Despite the long hours spent in school plus extra classes plus tuition plus tons of revision books, people score badly in SPM. I estimate that the marks for A1 never exceeds 70 for any subjects and could be as low as 40 for some. So even if they introduce an A+ grade, it's really not going to chance anything. Those who were supposed to be getting A1s will now get A+ instead. Maybe a few unluckly one whose marks were near the border line will get the A instead of the A+ but really it couldn't make a real difference.

Btw if you think 85+ for an A+ is crazy, it really isn't. In my college, for most subjects that aren't curved, A - = 90-94 , A=95+ and A+ = 100, btw the marks includes those you get from assignments.

It's not gonna change,as the syllabus and the whole memorise the whole bloody book bullshit are still there.

Just like a Chinese saying, change the soup but did not change the medicine.

Not surprised, even in my uni,it's pretty much the same system.

They rarely use the normal distribution curve.

I agree with that. Where I am:

95-100% = A
90-94% = A-
86-89% = B+
85% = B
80-84% = B-

and so on. 85% for an A+ is already low

A-level introduced A* , SPM introduce A+...

So... anyone trying to break the record?

I expect some1 getting 21A+ next year. This year is last chance to break Azali Azlan record.

For the A+, I kinda agree with it but I hope that the A+ is not using benchmark as based. Instead, it should be like following. For question in exam, there will be some question that is harder than usual and could not be answered by most students. So, A+ should be awarded to those who managed to answer those "tough" question on top of their A1 marks. As for language based subjects, A+ should be awarded to those who manage to present there ideas and language well.

History: 92%
BM: 88%

Still,in where i am,getting 85% and above is hard where only a very small amount of students gonna get that.

They gonna reduce the percentage of HD to about only 1% of the students, from a hearsay.
