Hi guys, i'm new to DSLR world and I just got myself a used Sony Alpha A100 as my first beginner camera. smile.gif

I found that this camera is quite easy to use and I wanna drop by here to ask one simple n00b question, without buying an expensive macro lens, what's the best solution for me to take a close photo?

Wah u found a 2nd hand A100. Nice. N welkambs to the SLR world. hehe. Cheapest way is to go get a Hoya Close Up filter. About rm40 oni. Sum1 in garage sales selling too, octopus brand or sumthin. i'd rather go with Hoya. Octopus must be Cina mali 1.

AlphaBeta: I used the A550 for a whole day, entirely in Live View mode. It's just so much quicker to get the angles I want (plus popping into MF Check LV best done with the camera away from one's face.)

Banzai_san: Yes, it is expected being below the A700.

the hoya is close up filter (+2 diopter for small closeup, +4 for more power and unless u get the +8 diopter for marco.
but filtertype +8diopter vs a 3 element +8diopter raynox, raynox give more better sharpness and less distrotion then a hoya +8diopter filter(still cheaper, hehe)

thanks albnok for the nice review. A550 is a very promising model but i wouldnt sure if i really need to upgrade from A300. although i hv the A300 for nearly a year, i found myslef oni started to learn bout it lately. actually im looking to get 30F2.8 macro but the price rm999 is a bit steep as initially thought the price would be around rm699.

yea, i thought so, thus why i end up topping up rm300 buying 2nd hand tamron17-50.... u get a 30mm F2.8 range inside, but no marco,... but i have a raynox, thus no problem.

a filter is adding one element to the lens, IQ wise, it will give a softer corner. and maybe a little distrotion on short zoom.

there is a reason why raynox became the best selling and highly recommended marco adapter. due to it's 3 element(3 glasses!) adapter which will have a decent overall IQ, and no distrotion and sharp corner.

While on the subject of Raynox 250, i got my paws on one recently, but am too noobie to know how to use it.... pls help.

I attached it to the end of the 55200, that i know how to. The problem is i cant get it to focus when at the longest focal 200mm. It just wont focus at any focal (55-200) and at physical distance, i tried slowly inching away from a subject.... cant focus at all. Tried all the modes, even macro, cant focus from any far distance.

I could only get it to focus on my keyboard at 30mm away from the lens, nice and sharp here, but wont i scare away the bugs if my lens is right up their nose?? What am i doing anything wrong? Pls teach.... many many thnx...

Else i have to get rid of my impluse buy..... doh.gif doh.gif any buyers wanna lift it off me?? cry.gif

Speaking of impulse buy, hands are itching for A550, but lucky my wallet is poison proof (meaning kosong la....), wonders if i shld get one.....

PS. Note to self... learn the A300 first.... but isnt the A550 also positioned to help noobies with the "teaching" lcd???

not equivalent. of coz the marco of 30mm F2.8 is better focus capability

but 1750 with raynox, u get addtional 50mm zoomed (closer) and u can shoot 17mm to 50mm of F2.8 photoes. wont that be better?

i will still but the 30mm if it is under rm700 and a FF, but 999+nonFF is a no no

achew, the sp90 is close to rm2k, no?
furthermore, 30mm is a wide angle which im fond with. if 1750+raynox can get wat 30F2.8 can do then it's worthwhile to think bout it.
ur signature pic is awesome smile.gif

poadster, i dun hv a raynox...at the moment...
n i roam in broad daylight biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
