In my opinion, contract base will get better pay than permanent. Usually contract base will not get bonus but permanent will have.
3.5k is very great pay.
Your job title is "consultant" but job description is "programming", so what is your job actually?

Hi, I will be working in the city centre around Lot 10 area and the pay is $3600.  A friend told me it will not be enough to survive because car park, rental and everything else is expensive.  I have never work in KL before.  I am single so can someone please give me some advise on whether $3600 is really not enough?  Thanks very much.

If RM3600 can't survive in KL, then those 2k plus staff might need to sleep across the street?

Salary RM3600 is more then enough to buy car & house with a average lifestyle. Anyway it really depend the lifestyle you living. If everyweek pub & clubbing, then you might having problem in your saving.

Average spending in KL will be

Food RM500
Rental RM400
Petrol RM300
Parking RM200
Car Loan RM600
Entertainment RM300
Internet & Mobile RM200

Total RM2500

So you still can save RM1100.

As everyone working as employee know how important is your qualification. With a degree mean you are in par. Without it, the Co. won't even look at your resume. With a higher qualification mean you are in prestigious position then other staff. Without a degree, no matter how hard you work you will unable to reach manager level in normal Co. Unless you start your own Co. or its ur father Co.

Anyway, sad to tell, time had change, our dad or grandfather work hard & excel moment its a pass. When come to promotion, your qualification come first, then only your achievement. Some of my colleague work for 20years with SPM, still at the same post. Other with degree, just work for 4years already in manager level.

Welcome to a realistic world, little boy. Join it or leave it.

Unless you wanna be businessman, then that's another story. Or doing sales, which just need to good in talking & convince people.
But if you wanna compare to working in those peanut Co. then so sad your at that level only.

How many people without a proper education earning >10k. And how many suffer to survive. Try to do some statistic & some study.

I don't agree that without a degree you won't get promotion and earning more. I have many friends who don't have a degree and excel in their job and become manager. It depend on the company and also opportunity.

Ha, I worked for 2 yrs before I got 2.5k. Before that its sadder. That is why I say i consider myself underpaid after 2 years of working.

Your pay is quite good.

I presume your "high pay" = "no life at all".

However, I believe "Getting higher pay NOW" = "Getting better quality of life in the FUTURE".

I presume you're working in a semicon company? Starting pay for fresh grads is around there..2.5k to 2.7k for Klang Valley standards. Working late is nothing unusual for mfg industry, but if everyday go back at 10pm, how long do you think you can survive this kind of life? biggrin.gif
