In my opinion, contract base will get better pay than permanent. Usually contract base will not get bonus but permanent will have.
3.5k is very great pay.
Your job title is "consultant" but job description is "programming", so what is your job actually?

technical consultant in my job scope / line requires programming aka developer. i think it's more like hampalang pao sai ohmy.gif mad.gif

i was offered a higher pay as a permanent, but its too far from my current place. my current client site is just 10 mins away from my apartment nod.gif

Wow, i had a chat with my senior, 4 years older than me about my current salary (3.7k - with allowance - contractual, no epf, etc) - i've only been working about 1.5 years. And he said, wah quite low. -___-" He is on a contractual basis as well, shit. Am i underpaid? Really ruined my day.

i can say 3.3k is pretty quite decent already some ppl have been working for 4 years plus and only drawing that amount.

I'm gonna be 24 this year, been working 1.5 years. But i dont get bonus though. The thing is, the line i am in (tech & functional consultants for a MNC), they earn big bucks. I am the small ciku among the rest of them. Hence, probably that's why i feel underpaid. I dont get OT claims, and i work till 8pm most of the days now. I just wrote an email to my boss about the unfairness in OT as we are short of hand, and the project does not want to give us more resources. So the current resources have to 'ham pa lang pao sai'.

Since we can manage the project without the extra resources (by working our ass off with overtime), they realised they can save money and deny us extra hands blink.gif ... wtf man.

Fresh grad for 3000. Oil & Gas? The fresh grads in my inductry only earning the most 2500, specialized industry.

Added on May 13, 2010, 1:27 pmAnd after confirming with the fresh grad, 2.5k is on contractual basis, means no EPF. I guess I'm in the wrong field, or .. just gotta be patient.

Engineer title has became a "everyone can use" name is Malaysia nowadays. Even Customer Service also has Engineer? Seriously... Engineer title is a respectable title in Europeen countries (except UK), but Malaysia has totally ruin it. It's sad.

Yes, I work in the O&G industrial, in this industry you are worth NOTHING until your 3rd or 4th year. My company starting pay for fresh graduate engineer is only RM2200, but offshore allowance is RM300 per day. Don't see only basic pay, see overall.
*
Yeah, I have a few friends working in O&G. Their basic pay is almost the same as me, but with offshore allowance, it's another story. They gain another 50% from their basic from there. Perhaps, it is time for me to move on to O&G wink.gif

Job Title : Technical Consultant
Job Desciption : Programming, Consultation, etc
Years spent in company : 9 months
Company : Local, tied to MNC as vendor
Industry : Banking/Warehousing
Tenure : Contractual
Employment Level : Contractual
Experience before joining : 1 yr
salary : RM3300 + RM200 (allowance) *before* - RM3500 + RM200 (allowance) *now*

So now, I have roughly about 1 year and 9 months of experience. I am planning to become a permanent, as i was offered the permanent post from the start but can't accept it due to commitment issues. But now, things have cleared and I am okay with being a permanent, but how much should I 'sell' myself for? I'm a girl, turning 24 this year. Does it make a difference? tongue.gif

I started with 2k as a freshie. Then after 3 months RM2250, after 10 months RM2500. But i quit after getting my RM2500. Don't think the company would be good for me in long term. But i was snatched right away from another vendor company. Now, i may say i am comfortable with where i am, but deserves better though.

That's quite a good jump in 10 months, isn't it? I'm earning peanuts though after almost working for 2 years. Thankfully enough I found another job which pay slightly better. But I guess you already know.

Talk to you on MSN tongue.gif

What are the benefits? I would personally say it's too low for such a position. My current pay is almost up to par with yours, but only with 2 years experience in IT and have yet to turn 24 (okay... it's year end!). You could go for more, 4.5k for your years of experience?
