hey guys just wanted to ask something thats been on my mind for a long time.. couldn't get a real answer

firstly, are fresh fruit juices and whole fruit the same?

secondly,

let say a normal dinner ( rice + meat + vege )

x amount of calories
y amount of protein
z amount of vit

and (empty calories like potato chip/alcohol/cake/ice cream + multi vit + whey) + fruit (for fibre)

x amount of calories
y amount of protein
z amount of vit

if the 2 have same amount of nutritional value.. in terms of the numbers.. are they actually the same? (ignore fibre.. fruits will make up for the vege part)

i'm really having problems eating enough calories a day.. chocolates, ice cream, cookies, cakes are my best frens to make up for it now.. other than my main meals

thx for all the help

Hi, what is ur goal in the first plc? gain weight and build muscle? or just want to eat healthy and maintain ur weight?

Ermm why would u call it as emply calories? potato chips, alcohol, ice cream, cake and etc contain all 3 macro nutrient just tat the carbs ratio would be alot higher. However, if those chips and cake are home made and u manage to control the ration of the macro nutrient inside then i would say, it is alright but most of the case....it wont be the case.

However, if u want to stuff sufficient macro nutrient, just make sure u take ur micro nutrient (mult vits, fish oil, vit E and etc) and take ur protein from meat, milk, eggs and etc, take fats as ur major calorie contributor (as in nuts, sunflower seeds and etc) and take ur carbs moderately and nvr the less some fibre from ur vege and fruits.

You are forgetting the micro nutrients, minerals, and other phyto chemical/compounds, fibre, essential fatty acids, etc.

All these you have to obtain from real food. You can't get phenolics, antioxidants, pre-biotics, pro-biotics etc from junk food.

And it's difficult to get the synergistic effect during digestion+absorption of whole food. E.g. vitamins in fruits are the most easily absorp compared to pills.

Why not you replace your junk food with fruits? Bananas, watermelon and papayas are high in calorie. And they cost no more than junk food.

And alcohol is the worst!

P.S. Goonie, is that you?!

ps : knew u would be the best person to ask haha.. hoping u would reply also

jamis : goal is to gain weight by building muscle

hm.. what i would like to know is if someone just takes whey and eat cakes while take multi vit and eat some fruits.. will they get the same nutrients and results from those taking whole food that contain same amount of nutrients.. the reason i ask is cause it is much easier to eat junk food for the calories than rice..

If you want to gain weight by gaining muscle, its better if you start doing it the healthy way now. BBing is a lifestyle and not something you would do for 1 month then stop. It's all about discipline and commitment.

Also, those chocolates and junk food would spike your insulin levels and you'll gain fat faster. You need to learn to control your insulin levels to maximise muscle gain and minimise fat gain.

Dude, junk food is just that lah. JUNK. Really nothing but calories and salt. Surely you know carbs don't build muscles.

Eating bananas/apples very difficult meh? Deng!

Go and google it why i say so. Tats the only solution. Some of the article claims that excessive protein may contribute to fat gain (this statement - is relative - coz chad waterbury said so-, alot of article contradict the fact but for safer case, just take as how much ur body need). So why dun we turn our head to a safer nutrient ....????

other than water and fresh leafy vegetable that I know of, are they other near empty calorie food?

I like to lower down my calorie intake but not by not eating. I tend to get the hungry feeling easily
