QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Nov 3 2009, 11:28 AM) Dutch Hacker Holds Jailbroken iPhones Hostage For Ransom» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « picture from gizmodo Many of us have jailbroken our iPhones, but did everyone remember to change the default root password? Those guilty of that oversight are vulnerable to the simple intrusion method this guy used to hold iPhones hostage in the Netherlands. Apparently all that it took to terrify many dutch iPhone users was a “trivial” port scanning technique and “a modicum of networking know-how”. After the hacker gained access to the jailbroken phones with unchanged root passwords, he sent the pictured message which led to a demand for a €5 ($8) PayPal payment and words of caution: This particular gentleman was almost kind. He didn’t inflict any serious harm, only demanded a small optional payment and limited his activity to the Netherlands. Whoever learns from his approach might not be as nice. The lesson, my darlings? Change your root passwords if you’ve got a jailbroken iPhone. I finally did. source this stuff is crazy man.... if changing root password is to difficult, they can always off ssh rite...>?

QUOTE(harmeet15 @ Nov 3 2009, 12:09 PM) this stuff is crazy man.... if changing root password is to difficult, they can always off ssh rite...>? well, the main point being highlighted here is ignorance. everyone wants to jump on board to jailbreak their iPhones but have no clue with regard to it. even worse to precipitate the problem, they refuse to research further. hence to be honest, for work and P & C related e-mails, it is better dealing with a blackberry

QUOTE(acid_head @ Nov 2 2009, 08:51 PM) Current Firmware : 3.1.2 Current network: Maxis iTunes Version : 9 PC/MAC : PC Jailbreaking software : Black Rain Problem Encountered : showing 'No Service' quite frequently whenever i switch on or off 3G Steps Taken So Far : Just reboot and it turns back normal So guys wat do u think? Even it turn back to normal when i reboot it but it really annoy me. Sometimes my friends and parents couldn't reach me becos of this prob. Anyone faced this kind of problem? I am facing this problem also ... and I've to agree is super annoying that you have to keep reboot your phone every time it happens. You can try removing and putting back the sim card again if you don't want to reboot This post has been edited by selinix: Nov 3 2009, 02:43 PM

My iPhone always syncs with my PC.
Now I have a MacBook Pro and decided to transfer everything from my PC to MacBook Pro.
Media contents are easy. But how am I going to transfer my backup to my MacBook Pro, so that my iPhone can restore from backup on my MacBook Pro?
I will lose my application data if I don't restore from backup.
Help?

Help? this is what i did, for both my MBP and XP (via bootcamp): transfer your songs to match at least 95% of the original contents in your previous windows to the MBP - crucial to ensure that iTunes doesn't erase the contents on your current iPhone. then synchronise the iPhone once. iTunes should make a new backup on your MBP now. [This can only be available for jailbreak iPhones] | JB A: Creating Custom SMS Tones on the other hand is fairly more technical and can only be done on jailbroken phones. It involves the following steps: 1) Create a tone you want in QuickTime or with any audio software. It has to be an aif file. 2) Rename the file to 'sms-received1.caf' (which is the file you might want to back up by the way as it is the original ringtone) 3) You can create multiple tones. Just rename correspondingly as sms-received2.caf, sms-received3.caf and so on. 4) Using a directory browser such as DiskAid, browse to ( System/Library/Audio/UISounds ) 5) Place your new files in this directory. 6) Reboot your phone and you will have your new sms tones.
