hi all, a question that i need to confirm. If we sync the apps from the itunes, will it also erase the applications installed from cydia & installer?

9 to 5 Mac reports that it has received a tip claiming that Apple is in the process of developing an application to bring FM radio functionality to the iPhone and iPod touch. The functionality would reportedly be similar to that found in the fifth-generation iPod nano, which offers the ability pause radio and tag songs for use in iTunes.

The FM radio application will reportedly be able to function in the background to allow user to listen to radio stations while other tasks are being performed, although it remains unclear whether the radio functionality will be a standalone application or integrated into the existing "iPod" music application. The application will also reportedly extend song tagging capabilities to integrate direct iTunes Store purchasing.

The holdup on this app is that Apple is trying to integrate the Mobile iTunes Store purchases into the functionality of the program. For instance, if you like a song you are listening to on the radio (and that station supports tagging and you are in the US), you will be able to push a button and see the song (and all of the information around it) in the iTunes Mobile store.
The Broadcom combination Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chips used in the iPhone and iPod touch have long also had the technical capacity for FM radio reception, with the chip found in the latest iPod touch theoretically also capable of FM radio transmission, although Apple has not as yet taken advantage of these capabilities.

Dutch Hacker Holds Jailbroken iPhones Hostage For Ransom



Many of us have jailbroken our iPhones, but did everyone remember to change the default root password? Those guilty of that oversight are vulnerable to the simple intrusion method this guy used to hold iPhones hostage in the Netherlands.

Apparently all that it took to terrify many dutch iPhone users was a “trivial” port scanning technique and “a modicum of networking know-how”. After the hacker gained access to the jailbroken phones with unchanged root passwords, he sent the pictured message which led to a demand for a €5 ($8) PayPal payment and words of caution:
This particular gentleman was almost kind. He didn’t inflict any serious harm, only demanded a small optional payment and limited his activity to the Netherlands. Whoever learns from his approach might not be as nice. The lesson, my darlings? Change your root passwords if you’ve got a jailbroken iPhone. I finally did.

A: Creating Custom SMS Tones on the other hand is fairly more technical and can only be done on jailbroken phones. It involves the following steps:
1) Create a tone you want in QuickTime or with any audio software. It has to be an aif file.
2) Rename the file to 'sms-received1.caf' (which is the file you might want to back up by the way as it is the original ringtone)
3) You can create multiple tones. Just rename correspondingly as sms-received2.caf, sms-received3.caf and so on.
4) Using a directory browser such as DiskAid, browse to ( System/Library/Audio/UISounds )
5) Place your new files in this directory.
6) Reboot your phone and you will have your new sms tones.

Near Field Communications World reports (via 9 to 5 Mac) that Apple is rumored to be testing a prototype of its next-generation iPhone equipped with a radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip. The rumor comes from a "highly reliable source" who provided the information to Einar Rosenberg, Chief Technology Officer of Narian Technologies. Rosenberg writes:

i have jailbroken my iphone and replaced the default message tone with a customized tone...
sometimes when i receive a msg...it doesnt ring at all... its like every 10 times i receive a msg, 1 or 2 times my message will be like silent mode...although its not in silent mode.
Anyone facing this problem? or know how to fix it?

We've just received a tip that an iPhone radio.app is being developed in-house by Apple for use on the iPhone and iPod touch.  From what we know, the app will be allowed to operate in the background like iPod.app and will offer the same functionality as the FM radio in the new iPod Nanos.  The source mentioned that this application could also be incorporated into the iPod.app before release.
The holdup on this app is that Apple is trying to integrate the Mobile iTunes Store purchases into the functionality of the program.  For instance, if you like a song you are listening to on the radio (and that station supports tagging and you are in the US), you will be able to push a button and see the song (and all of the information around it) in the iTunes Mobile store.  With another click, you'll be able to make a purchase.  This is an extension of the Song Tagging feature used in the iPod Nanos.  Perhaps they could even add some Shazam technology to help with those stations that don't support tagging.
Though it wasn't specified, the app will likely have the same Live Pause functionality that the Nanos currently enjoy.
Apple's iPods and iPhones have been able to receive FM radio signals for some time now.  The latest generation of iPhone and iPod touch can even broadcast FM signal, for instance to a car stereo.  The ability of the iPhone and iPod touch to receive FM signals has been used solely in the implementation of the Nike+ ecosystem to this point.
This wouldn't be the first time Apple awoke sleeping hardware functionality from its mobile products.  Apple sometimes chooses to leave hardware features dormant in their products until they feel the time is right.  For instance, Apple didn't enable Bluetooth in its 2nd generation iPod touch until 9 months after it was released.  Apple also hasn't enabled the 802.11N +5GHZ wireless networking (which we also hope to see updated shortly) in its latest iPhone and iPods.
The addition of an FM radio would eliminate that advantage from the ZuneHD over Apple's line of Touch OSX products.
