Totally Essien pass was terrible...Iva still not a good RWB...but a gud RB....Bosingwa still the best...

Carlo train Hutch lah..to be Bos backup...

I think the rain slow down most of the player...even Lampard header was missed....

Kalou still not suitable to be a flanker...a center forward is the best...behind striker...

A shocking 4-3-3...hahahhaha...

The flow of passing was pretty bad. The players looked rather tired in the match. We squeezed that goal out but credits to the lads, they fought til the end.

a Lacklustre display from the blues...porto was dangerous all the time...lucky anelka manage 2 scored the 2nd time...otherwise a draw in the card......still the players are not improving...it shows..the need of drogba...ivanovic is great today...his crosses are damn good too

MOTM: cech (he saved cfc from defeat) sweat.gif

you're wrong bro. iva did awesome defending against the porto attack. he chased down attacking wingers with everything he's got, manage to stole the ball too. threatened in the opponent's box in set pieces and did great defending on the right back side of our box. yes, he isnt as good as bosingwa on the attack, but i think he did very good covering for bosingwa last night.

overall, i think it was a team effort. i would say that kalou needs to improve loads if he wants another chance at the first eleven again. essien improved his game on the second half after a bad first half showing.

i just hate it when we play in the rain at night sad.gif

I didnt watch yesterday match, but a lot of comment said our 1st half is terrible, so Essien is the culprit? Kalou only good when starting from sub.

very average performance but again we have to take a look at the chances created. it could've easily been 2 or 3 nil to us, despite our below par showing. look back at the kalou header which was brilliantly saved, and lamps who made the wrong decision when put through one on one by kalou as well if i'm mistakened. he tried to dribble sideways and was promptly muscled out of possession. apart from that lamps missed a totally unmarked header from 5 yards in the opening minutes as well.

so there's a lot of questions that need to be answered, particularly from essien (shockingly bad passing mainly in the 1st half but he slowly upped his game in the 2nd) lamps (movement was good, passing and finishing below average), ballack (missing for most of the game) and kalou (slow to release the ball and a few bad decisions, but redeemed himself a little with an assist for nic, coupled with a good header which was brilliantly saved)

defense was allright, cech was fantastic. anelka got the winning goal so i'd say he did his job.
perhaps the heavy rain affected our performance a little? u could see porto struggling to play their normal game as well. good to earn 3 points even when u don't play well, but its sad we didn't get a 2 goal lead to give some cameos to studge/borini/bruma/hutch. patience boys..hopefully it won't be long now.

p . s: bruno alves should not have been on the pitch the moment he elbowed terry in the face. that's a straight red card and a penalty in my book. its amazing how our captain got up with no signs of ill effect, but even more bizarre is how the ref and linesman missed the incident. would be interesting to submit some video evidence to see if uefa are as 'committed' to punishing diving as they are with violent assaults like that. ahh wishful thinking.

kerplunk, i think there is an opening for a pundit position on ESPN. lol. jk.

yes indeed, our midfield switched off a few times in the last 20 minutes of the game too. we were desperately defending of every shot that came towards our goal like what stoke did and that did not impress me. its true as the thread title says, we escaped this time. if we want to be real title contenders, we must up our game. and to be fair, porto did very well too last night.

If you look closely when Iva attack..Porto always attack wide on the right.....even hulk at the centre switch to attack on the right when iva on attack phase...he defend okey..but he always leave the position...even ricky backup him...

not too sure about the timing of kenyon's departure. but i think some or maybe most of us saw this coming. a few things might have lead to his fate. cole's 'tapping up' for instance. besides that apparently it was him who decided alexandre pato wasn't 'good enough' when we had the chance to snap him up, before milan acted quickly and sealed a 3.4 million pound move. another high profile muck up was the robinho transfer where mr.kenyon proudly declared confidence in getting his signature, before robbie chose the lighter shade of blue on transfer deadline day.

can't ignore his contributions in helping to spread our global image, but i guess he made one mistake too many
during his tenure.

some great news from the reserves, studge got a classy hattrick ! besides that borini and bruma (via a fantastic freekick) had a goal each in a fantastic 5-2 win over ipswich. best of all, joe cole played the full 90 minutes. woot!

We fail to capture ROBINHO is because CHELSEA does not want to match MANC bid thus R.MADRID only accepted MANC offer. He wanted to leave badly so have no choice but to join MANC. If we have match MANC bid i am sure ROBINHO will join us because he started fall out with RM all because SCOLARI declare in public wanted to sign him.

From what i see KENYON is most probably being demoted to non-executive position. When he find a new challenge/job i am sure he will leave us. Path way for GH taking over that position ?? tongue.gif

GERRARD case is at the final minute he decided to stay and snub CHELSEA. Which is good for LIV coz he actually help them win Champion League.

well surely you can't go wrong with a person named 'gourlay?' that has to be one of the coolest names ever at chelsea. laugh.gif

chitchat, failing to increase our bid is one thing, but declaring somewhat arrogantly that we're so confident about signing him to the point we can start selling his shirts before the lad puts pen to paper, is another matter. that was one cheap shot madrid weren't willing to put up with. even if we upped our bid to 40 million pounds, trust me they were NEVER going to let him join us after that severe 'advertising blunder.' and who was tasked with securing the deal? mr. kenyon of course. even if it wasn't directly his fault, inevitably the man in charge will have to take the blame.

oo..Matic...no such player in FM 09...i have to create him...

I think he will get a quit low stat in FM 10 maybe a level with youngster...or maybe a little bit more...

Excited about Borini....hopefully he can perform since we cant recall Sinclair...

(hopefully in the topic..hahahah)

Hope to see J.COLE in AMC position. Why u all start MIKEL ler ?? I support BALLACK coz it will give us more goal opportunity. In difficult time BALLACK will able to help squeeze in some goal.

CECH
BOS, CALV, TERRY, A.COLE
ESSIEN
BALLACK, LAMP
J.COLE
DROG, ANELKA

i prefer stronger ballack than obi mikel. mikel still not that consistent, while ballack will mostly can scored from the corner's kick opportunity

Croatian club Inter Zapresic claim they have come to an agreement with Chelsea which will see young goalkeeper Matej Delac move to Stamford Bridge in 2011.

Zapresic released a statement on their website, in which they confirmed Delac will remain with them for the next two years, during which period Chelsea will pay his wages.

stockpiling for the future ?

JM might go to MANC but i doubt on the LIV part because they dont have stable financial. When BENITEZ sold his player to fund new transfer but in the end part of the money goes to paying the club debt. But i think JM next destination most likely be La Liga, to win in all major league is great.

Wah JT pls dont say that shakehead.gif we still got the 2 years ban, we wouldnt want those to implement anytime soon. Looks like the 2 years ban unable to stop us from signing promising youngster whistling.gif we still sign DELAC and leave him at the existing club and treat it like a loan till 2011.

once mikel gets into his stride, watch him become a major destructive force to their midfield. we'll see the benefits when he manages to put a stranglehold on huddlestone/kranjcar. ballack was anonymous against porto, but i wouldn't be adverse to him getting the nod provided he's given an offensive role. hmm.gif

i don't have my trust on mikel. been watching him played for couple of seasons. still not very convincing, sorry to say this but i prefer ballack over him anytime. what i saw in him was only ruthless way of play and lack of teamworking ability

Hope so, but they are really a fast side, but worn out in second half. we need to close down space faster so that there are no gap for lennon and defoe to run. last week MU did really good closing down space and creating space.

what we need is first blood. if they get to score first, we might be in trouble. their defense can be quite tight. but if we score first, they might open up a little and then there might be more chances to kill the game. shutting down their midfield is also a key to breaking down their attack.

yeap. looks like danny is starting to win the heart of us Chelsea fans since his debut goal in the pre season friendly. he also proves it time and time again in the reserves that he's a deadly striker, might start earlier than expected i would say. its good as all of the strikers will be on their toes to not lose their place in the starting eleven.

Yup convincing win. CECH has little to do but we do escape a penalty call. KING out really did help us a lot. Nothing much too see from BORINI.

Now most worried is DROGBA injury.

Btw who is MoTM ?? i dont have my pick, all play well.

MOTM for me is Didi, simple. One assist for Ashley Cole and a goal for himself. Looked menacing in front of Corluka, King, et al. Shame that he got himself injured in the final minutes.

didi created two of our goals and scored one all by himself. now we might lose him sooner than expected. and let's be frank guys, it did look serious. a mistimed shot as that can play havoc on your knee especially when u take it on full swing. drogba get well soon.

he doesnt look too comfortable. lol.

anyways, great game today. we totally mauled harry's men. hmmm. did harry left before the game ended when we were winning by 3 goals? did see him shake with carlo there. damn it, i hope drogba isnt injured! we need him in every game if possible! awesome assist to ashley. lamps missed a great chance to score the second king got injured. was he hesitating? he had time and space, cudicini was also out of position, he could have easily net it in. but his will to chase every ball sure paid off with that assist to bally. i think our defense isnt as solid as the previous matches, cech did well to save many shots from the likes of huddlestone and defoe. overall, fantastic goals today. was a little disappointed in kalou though, he should have performed better, there was once he held on to the ball like almost forever! could have made a pass to borini.

was this borini's debut? biggrin.gif he looks nervous before coming into the pitch

If Drogba havent taken out we should be 7-0 up wink.gif. I dont think is a serious injury as next week we play a pretty weak wigan.

Hope that borini get more play. Notice that terry went up there and gave him advise when lampard taking set piece. And if Kalou is more cooperative maybe borini can get into score sheet yesterday. tongue.gif Maybe wednesday carling cup he will start as 1st 11.

Don't get over confident yet fellow Blues, Wigan could well regroup after last Saturday's heavy loss and spring a surprise for us. Bear in mind we are playing at their turf too. I remember we had a particularly hard time against them during the the first game of the 05/06 season. Only through Crespo's intervention at the final minute of injury time did we sealed the win.

QUOTE(madfag @ Sep 21 2009, 12:07 PM)
we have to maintain consistency. its still too early days to be celebrating just yet. well, a little celebration dont hurt does it. lol.

whats your possible line up against QPR? we should balance the experience and the youth!
*
if i'm not mistaken sturridge will START! borini got in a cameo vs spurs ahead of him, for that reason i think.
wonder who'll partner studge..kalou or borini. joey cole and yuri are going to get 1st team action too!

haha that would be quite an achievement!

hmm spurs have been our most difficult opponents so far. it was big a match, no doubt about it. best goal was ashley's header!
we passed this stern test with flying colours and i eagerly await our next encounter with a strong team.
looking back at studge's hattrick i think we're grooming him as didi's replacement. early signs are very promising. hmm.gif

no news yet. carletto said it might've been just a bad cramp in his calf, but sure didn't look like it..he couldn't walk off the field, so we'll have to wait for a diagnosis.

sigh. we're always the viewers that get the short end of the stick when it comes astro's darn broadcasting choices.
not even a delayed telecast for a CC game that i'm really looking forward to, and no live epl game either. haih.
on top of that we still pay for the rm12 price hike. nice. i guess sitting on top of the table won't win us more live matches then.
bloody astro.

on a brighter note, didi is fine and i admit i'm pleasantly surprised it was just a cramp. take a look at the replay again, and u wouldn't be wrong to suspect a twisted knee or something. what a relief! rclxm9.gif
but studge has a slight calf problem and might not play at all sad.gif we'll have to wait for the official lineup.

haha that's a cheap shot if i've ever seen one laugh.gif
but it would be interesting to know how much they need to pay to broadcast CC matches. i guess its team specific? hmm.gif
ours must be really expensive then. besides that chelsea fans = a lot less than utd/liverpool fans especially in asia ------->
= less viewership = less revenue. so hence the marginalisation. arsenal are another team that get victimised alongside us, especially since they're barren spell.

Can't blame Astro for the lack of Chelsea fans over here (or SEA) to warrant live showing of every Chelsea game. And it's correct that both Arsenal and our games are being sidelined more and more, mainly because of the fan base/viewership. It's all business at their end.

Life is currently good for a Chelsea fan, let's sit back and enjoy the ride now. CC v QPR should be a good test for the youngsters, as well as the oldies returning to the side i.e. Ferreira Joey and Zhirkov.

haha yes there was a time when i was quite upset with the big ivorian's performances. particularly under the stewardship of a certain brazillian. but as i've hoped for (and many others i'm sure), carletto has managed to bring out the best in him, just like hiddink before him. if drogs wound up at inter milan, we'd definitely be kicking ourselves watching him tear apart defences in italy.
heck i even think he looks a bit faster this season! look at how quickly he raced onto ashley's long ball for the 3rd goal. hmm.gif

aw13, indeed we're loving our time in all competitions this season. it almost makes u worry about when that 'slip up' will come.
inevitably it will, but we'll be ready of course! flex.gif

I don't think it have anything to do with astro..
Just for carling cup only a few selected match will have a live telecast for now..
Last night only Leeds United vs Liverpool and tonight only Manchester United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As you can see there's only one live streaming for Carling Cup tonight too.. smile.gif

was looking through another chelsea forum, it seems yuri and joey both had so-so games. still finding their feet after being sidelined for some time. as long as we grabbed the win and both players emerged unscathed, i'm quite satisfied. neat finish by kalou.
could've scored a couple more, but their keeper was on faiyaaahhh! biggrin.gif

we still need a playmaker, a young prospect. the game started to change after lampard was introduced. i wonder why matic was not playing. borrini definitely has a good future ahead of him. i think sturridge didnt play cos he was out with a slight injury? zhirkov had a mediocre performance so i heard. i hope with joey back now we have alot more attacking options.

cant wait for wigan!

wow. 10 changes to the starting lineup. our boss sure has some balls compared to our previous brazilian coach scolari. we've also managed to squeeze out a win which is awesome. hmmm, from all the news i've read, looks like yuri isnt at his best yet? his pre season performance was quite good though.

melchiot was blue also long time ago. he got the speed and very good in terms of passing and creating space in tight area. yeah it's more pleasurable if we can watch it live. but since we bound to stupid media barriers, delayed is always the best option apart from livescore.net

AC Milan fear Pato wants Chelsea move
26.09.09 | tribalfootball.com
READ MORE NEWS ON: AC Milan, Chelsea, Alexandre Pato, Carlo Ancelotti

There's growing concerns at AC Milan that Alexandre Pato has become unsettled by Chelsea's summer pursuit.

The Brazilian has failed to score in five games for Milan and is also talking back to senior teammates, much to the frustration of management.

Corriere della Sera says there's a growing feeling inside Milan that Pato wants to be reunited with Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea and is allowing the situation to affect his on-field form.

Any move to Stamford Bridge for Pato, however, will be determined by Chelsea's ability to have their FIFA transfer ban overturned.

Click here for more Chelsea news and Drogba coverage
Hopefully we can overturn the ban and grab Pato..

Wigan...yap..they still strong even when they already lost..Palacios..and Velencia....

respect the opponent!

TEAM NEWS: WIGAN ATHLETIC V CHELSEA
Posted on: Sat 26 Sep 2009

Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka return to the attack but there is no Michael Ballack so both Michael Essien and John Mikel Obi play.

The rest of the team resumes to the one that played versus Spurs so midweek goalscorer Salomon Kalou is back on the bench where he is joined by Yury Zhirkov, Paulo Ferreira, Fabio Borini but there is no Joe Cole.

Wigan make two changes from their last line-up, both in midfield. Jason Scotland and Paul Scharner, brought on as subs in the big defeat at Arsenal, start. Jason Koumas and Jordi Gomez are dropped.

Chelsea will line up in a 4-1-2-1-2 formation as follows:

1 Petr Cech
17 José Bosingwa
6 Ricardo Carvalho
26 John Terry ©
3 Ashley Cole
12 John Mikel Obi
5 Michael Essien
15 Florent Malouda
8 Frank Lampard
39 Nicolas Anelka
11 Didier Drogba

Substitutes: 40 Hilario, 19 Paulo Ferreira, 2 Branislav Ivanovic, 35 Juliano Belletti, 18 Yury Zhirkov, 21 Salomon Kalou, 45 Fabio Borini.

Wigan are expected to line up in the following 4-2-3-1 formation:

Kirkland; Melchiot ©, Boyce, Bramble, Figueroa; Thomas, Diame; N'Zogbia, Scotland, Scharner; Rodallega.

Substitutes: Pollitt, Amaya, Cho, Koumas, Gomez, De Ridder, King.

The referee is Phil Dowd.

we're always dodgy when it comes to set pieces, we should fix this problem before it cost us. coming from behind isnt exactly the best game plan for this sport.

if today loose next week most probably also loose. we cant play liverpool if wigan we cant win. by the way torres hattrick.

DAMN it we still always a slow starter, cant score in first 30 minutes, FIX this CA.

3 player are the burden to the team from what i see from all previous match: carvalho, mikel and malouda.

3 - 1..sending off was crucial. looks like utd will go top. the real battle starts now guys. versus liverpool next week, potentially without ashley cole! this loss will be a good kick in the face so we don't get too complacent. we seriously need to regroup and refocus.

We still got Ballack,joey,Zhirkov,Sturriddge....the essien should play the bottom tip with lamp or joey on the top tip...ZHirkov and ballack on each side...

We will beat Pool! Cuz we cant afford to lose twice...Lose is not a good streak....

u bro need to take a chill pill and have some faith in the team. giving up on the title already? i've heard about panic stations but this is ridiculous! one game at a time. like i said every other team has had their blips. hopefully they'll experience more of it in the future.
this is our first. let's bounce back from it in style and not throw in the towel with such ease.

haha okay now i get where you're coming from. normal laa emo a bit. but don't say no more hope for the epl ma..the whole team craves that trophy the most. at least i think they do. biggrin.gif hmm i need to watch the sending off again..what exactly happened?

its a good thing hilario has been in respectable form for the reserves, and zhirkov times his return perfectly to face liverpool next week. but i do hope ashley will be okay to start. zhirkov in for malouda maybe.

Relax fellas, it's just one loss (hopefully not the first of many!). I don't see the need for name calling or blaming here.

Btw, we are drawn with BOLTON in the League Cup 4th round. Cheers!

Let's shift focus to APOEL FC now.

yep before even thinking about the liverpool game, we'll have to put in a good shift against apoel fc first. well it was great run while it lasted. now its all about the post mortem for carletto. to be honest its been a long time coming. we rode our luck against hull and stoke respectively. could've easily lost 4 points from those two games. 18 points from our first 7 games? i'll take that thank you. icon_rolleyes.gif

we should move on. if anyone should be blamed for last night's game, it should be the players on the field. they performed terribly. after we conceded the penalty, the numbers of attacks were next to non. we fly in long balls just to lose it sooner than later. i think the worst thing would be losing petr in the next game against the poolers. i hope hilario will be on form when we meet the poolers next week. 18 out of 21 points. we're still looking good.

lets keep the blue flag flying high.

We need Alex when they play long ball, he is very solid in the air, but although sometime he got outpaced by defender, but i still prefer him over carvalho since watching carvalho performance this season.

Last night i think we lack of ballack, maybe with him we still can play even down to 10 mens. The crucial point yesterday was cech red card and i think i was a right decision so no cech in liverpool match.

REACTION: RESULT WAS FAIR - by Carlo....so cheer up guys...at least the burden to keep invincible already gone...

So...against APOEL...we got all players xcept Deco and Alex..

I guess...we can play full strength...now it all up to the players to perform...Saveral 1st team players such as A.Cole..Mikel may rest for the Pool....so i think..We will play a few non-first team players...

The lineup against pool is the hardest to make...with Hilario...or maybe Turnbull....

STREAM THIS VIDEO..Reaction after the game..by Carlo..

Hehehhe..I like this guy...so cool..." We can put another goalkeeper..Hehe "

I back him for a long term contract at Chelsea...even I know this still early...sometime the characteristic is important...

Yap..i think we dont need to really think where he should play...anyway...Carlo gave him a free-to-move permission anyway...

But not on left or right side...

APOEL lineup

Cech
Bos,Ricky,Terry,Zhirkov
Essien
Ballack/Joey,Malouda
Lampard/Joey
Drogba,Anelka ( maybe Kalou )

No worries about the loss, one of a few I predict. Good also to lessen all the nonsensical talk about going unbeaten, etc etc.

this may be just the kick up the backside that we need. a nice slap in the face to remind the players not to become complacent. to stretch that extra centimetre when going in for that tackle. to leap a little higher to win that aerial battle. and to sprint a little faster to support their teammates upfront. maybe cole should be rested against apoel. let zhirkov have a good workout instead.
now is the time to show their hunger to bounce back and win! come on the chels! flex.gif

here's a little something to lighten the mood.

Then again the winning streak has ended, Chelsea perorm terribly(even as a fan of them i need to speak the truth).

One,Malouda must be out,Zhirkov must come in,u see Malouda is so slow paced but then again Zhirkov will be a better choice as he slices through defense faster and better.Joe cole can be a choice when he is fit over Malouda.

Carvalho has also not been performing well, bring Alex in he should be a better choice.Lampard hard to be a playmaker,he is always marked and its makes him easier to mark beacuse he is the predictable one to makes play.

hmmm. i dont know if its pace we need. we did not conquer the midfield after we lost petr. i still think the combination of our uncles; bally, deco, lampsy and essien fits the diamond the most. not sure if joey and yuri are suited for that kind of play. i hope there are some change of tactics so suit the players and to counter the opponents. remember last season when we suffered many draws and losses due to the inability to change tactics?

Hi guys, I'm new on this forum. I've been a supporter since the era of zola.

Let's kick liverpool's ass this sunday. They've been talking crap and have not win the bpl title the last 10 years(u know how rafa been's talking always). We are without cech but hilario will prepare himself playing in UCL smile.gif

Would gladly see ballack to return and hopefully ashley cole will be alright.

GO GO THE BLUES! rclxms.gif

I remember i begin to support when we kick MU ass 5-0 when MU used Massimo Taibi as their goalkeeper.

Back then we have Dan Petrescu (who look alike one of the senario member) Frank Leboeuf (Botak), Dennis Wise (captain), LeSaux, Babayaro, Ed de Goey, Poyet, and long leg-André Flo

AGREE, that too would be my choice for our midfield lineup but since J.COLE is back i would prefer him over DECO coz i think he is better at keeping the ball and maneuver thru small spaces.

I think CA play LAMPARD at top of diamond because of his proven scoring ability but that will compromise his creativity due to lack of space up front unless he really get use to the new position. Another reason CA put MALOUDA at LMF instead of LAMPARD it might because MALOUDA provide more support with A.COLE at left side. We have seen LAMPARD playing at LMF and end up A.COLE doing one man show at the left. On the right side we have, BOS+ANELKA so BALLACK can always play at the center. Maybe we can try something like ROONEY+GERRARD combo like ENGLAND setup. Switching position between LAMPARD+J.COLE. thumbup.gif

@ franklampard8: welcome rclxms.gif, maybe u can introduce urself a bit like telling us how u get to know or starting support CHELSEA and who is ur favourite CHELSEA player. (Lets make this compulsory for all newcomer biggrin.gif)

I think lampard is doing very at top diamond cuz he'll be supplying balls to the strikers + his long shoot abilities. Joe cole will take his time returning into first team and he'll have to fight for it. His original position is actually AM(centre) but played wings most of the time. I still remember him taking the left midfield role for england due to lack of good left midfielders for the national team. He played quite a lot of right midfield too when robben was still here and they actually interchanged positions at times.

i know, he started to get more first team action when ranieri came in. ONE CLUB LEGEND IN THE MAKING

well, i was just drawing comparisons between dennis wise and JT since both of them are great leaders on the pitch, in a way that they are hard battlers and very influential captains rallying the blue army. smile.gif

I think most of the key players will be rested. Hilario should be playing tho, its a preparation before pool's match. Key players like terry, drogba, lampard should be on the bench tongue.gif

QUOTE

Chelsea have left Michael Ballack and John Mikel Obi behind as they travelled to Cyprus for their Champions League clash with APOEL Nicosia. Mikel is struggling with an ankle problem while Germany captain Ballack misses out with a calf strain.

But Ashley Cole, forced out of their 3-1 defeat by Wigan Athletic on Saturday with an ankle injury, did make the flight as did Portugal midfielder Deco and England midfielder Joe Cole, who missed Saturday's match with a cold.

Meanwhile, striker Didier Drogba, who is suspended for Wednesday night's game in Group D, described their defeat at Wigan as the worst performance in his five years at the club.

And the Ivory Coast international told his team-mates they must improve if they are to win the Premier League title. The defeat was Chelsea's first of the season and ended an unbeaten run stretching back over 23 games.

Drogba scored his 100th goal for the Blues when he levelled just after the break, but they fell apart when goalkeeper Petr Cech was red-carded for a professional foul.

It allowed Manchester United to reclaim top spot following their win over Stoke.

Cech complained bitterly that he should not have been shown the red card but Drogba said the incident had little bearing on the outcome.

"We didn't play very well," said Drogba. "We lost all the battles, all the duels. We didn't win anything, we were poor. This is the worst game I have played in since I have been at Chelsea. We need to think about it, correct what was wrong and try to go again.

"We equalised just after half-time and we were trying to improve our game but then there was the penalty and red card which I think was a bit harsh. Still with 10 players, we had the chance to make it 2-2, but we didn't do it. There was a lot of space and they used the pitch very well, they deserved to win."

seems that cole could be available for pool's match. smile.gif

another one of our loanees who's beginning to find his feet is franco di santooooooo! pressured a villa defender well, that lead to samba's goal, and attempted an outrageous bicycle kick that was definitely heading on target, but unfortunately stopped by richard dunne's hand. the result was a penalty of course! dunn duly converted and it was the 89th minute. great win for blackburn. well done franco! flex.gif

I think essien is playing more than mikel. Our diamond consists of malouda, essien, ballack and lampard. Mikel is a back up but he plays a vital part for the team too...when one of them is unavailable/rested/not fit..mikel will step in and take his role.

Mikel is young has a very good potential especially when ballack is not playing for us anymore.

Yep he is young but he does not control the ball well at times and since he is a defensive midfielder once he lost the ball, with Ashely and bosingwa up front,it can cause havoc in defense.

Essien is able to play both defensive and offensively(he is a box-to-box midfielder). When mikel and essien play together, essien will get the chance to attack more(either left or right diamond). Ballack influences the team quite a lot, but when ballack is playing essien will become more defensive i believe.

Essien or Mikel also not playing well this year, Ballack are better than them.

When we play against fast team, CA will use Essien, and when we play against very strong and physical with alot of crosses team CA will play Mikel.

I agree that ballack did well this season. Even during our community shield against manu. It would be nice to have him back against pool...Do you think we will stay with diamond this weekend?
*
if our midfield can get back to their form. there are no problems with the diamond. our midfield was shut off against wigan.

Essien or Mikel also not playing well this year, Ballack are better than them.

When we play against fast team, CA will use Essien, and when we play against very strong and physical with alot of crosses team CA will play Mikel.

But Mancienne doesn't look good.
*
i dont think it's solely his fault. McCarthy praised Mancienne alot for his performance, it's just that Wolves aren't good defensively as a whole.

Yep he is young but he does not control the ball well at times and since he is a defensive midfielder once he lost the ball, with Ashely and bosingwa up front,it can cause havoc in defense.
*
he actually was a box to box midfielder.. impressed along mith messi in the youth world cup.. but his potential still havent exposed yet.. maybe because he is playing a makelele role for chelsea since his debut?

I think essien is playing more than mikel. Our diamond consists of malouda, essien, ballack and lampard. Mikel is a back up but he plays a vital part for the team too...when one of them is unavailable/rested/not fit..mikel will step in and take his role.

Mikel is young has a very good potential especially when ballack is not playing for us anymore.

i prefer essien over mikel anytime until he can tweak his emotions

Very eager 2 watch Chelsea vs Liverpool..
Last season v only managed 2 draw 1 game and win 1 out of 6 games against Big Four in the Premier League..
Which mean out of 18pts v managed 2 gt 4 pts only..

http://stats.football.co.uk/2008/chelsea.html

This season really hoping 2 gt all those 18 pts..

Regarding Mikel and Essien , actually i prefer Lassana Diara rather than Mikel..
Diara hv gud pace and speed..Bt wat 2 do nw he is playing in Real Madrid.. sweat.gif
Mikel will improve very soon.. rclxms.gif

mikel is more talented than him i believe..

but diarra is no where near essien class...

Mascherano is totally over rated. you dont seem him scoring super goals like essien. or providing that all important through ball.

for me Essien is still way above Mascherano...
bcause of Essien ability to attack and versatility..
in terms of winning the ball they are more or less the same..

mikel's biggest problem in my opinion, is he hasn't had a coach consistently guiding him through his formative years here at chelsea. mourinho/grant/scolari/hiddink never had a chance to really spend time to shape his budding talent. i can tell u right now our young players have definitely been affected in one way or another by our roller coaster style management. it can and will stunt the development of those who lack mental toughness.

like i've said before, each time someone new comes in, EVERYONE has to start from scratch. for the established stars this might not be such a big deal, but put yourself in the shoes of a young hopeful and the effects can be devastating.if we had some managerial continuity, players like salomon kalou and mikel could well be the finished article by now but unfortunately that's not the case.
i'm not trying to make excuses for them but i believe they would have benefited greatly from a long term and dedicated coach who could've unleashed their full potential.

Anyway, I'm not worried about mikel at all. He is only 22 and is doing okay(not far from great tho) and still more to come and improve from him. Being able to play regularly for chelsea at this age is considered a very good thing already.

Even lassana diarra didn't get to play much until he joined portsmouth(around 23 years old?) and finally transferred to real madrid, at the age of 24 now.

At least he don't give ball away so easily compare to Mikel, and his passes are more accurate compare to Mikel.

Essien are better than them if he is inform, but i dont think this season Essien is in any form at all even to compare with Diarra. And we used to compare Essien with Gerrard, but no this season. Hopefully he can put some performance in his game after this.

I watch a few RM matches this season, you can see Diara really command their midfield, bring ball up and down., but sometime he do give some hard tackle but he is never as clumsy as Mikel is.

This season although i hate to say so, but only one that i m really impress with is... "Darren Fletcher"

He is the key to MU midfield since last season and he is so in-form this season.

MU are gonna lose matches if without him.

bosingwa - ivanovic - terry - zhirkov
essien - mikel
joe - lampard - malouda

for this work better..we rarely use 2 DM...that Real Madrid style now...with Xabi and Lass....

Maybe Mikel can perform under this condition...got 4 Midfielder in front of him...our flanker joey and Malouda can attack freely...

Actually i watched the highlights again and thought the two goals he scored was pretty fluke and gifted by some lineman's ambiguous call.

oh well, saw Sportscentre just now

Ashley and Deco were training. I guess Ashley will be playing and probably Deco will be on the bench.

i am happy with the win, but im disappointed with the performance. we dont look like we're gonna win the champions league with performance like that. lampard is under par in scoring, which is something we really need. kalou no where to be seen to be honest, no impact in the game. our counter attacks were very slow which i guess probably lead no nothing. still there are still some defensive mistakes which would really cost us. did you guys see terry getting so furious at one time, this should be the spirit of all the players, not switching off after a 1 goal lead. malouda isnt really suited for the diamond altho i admire his workrate, he defends and attacks. we seriously need to play like how we played in pre season. awesome control of midfield, superb goals by the strikers, solid defending at the back.

and whats wrong with the ref? ballet might suite him more instead of contact sport.

0-1 to Chelsea

Nice cut in from the right by Ivanovic. Pass to Anelka to shot from outside, nice curl and...

GOAL!!!!

For the first time we score a goal before half an hour mark this season.

It seem to be in the 2nd half, we are lacking in midfield, especially passing. We need Ballack wink.gif

Eventhough we win , it was a poor performance from Chelsea...
Players give away possession very easily..
We cnt play like this with other teams , especially Top Clubs..
APOEL nearly scored de equalizer..
Last week lose 2 Wigan bt yet no improvement..
If we perform like this how gonna we win Champ League and Premier League Title.. sweat.gif

Kalou nt suitable 2 b placed as striker I think, he shud be placed as RW / LW..
No impact 4rm him..
Our counter attack still very poor..

i sincerely hope ancelotti went berserk in the dressing room after the game. unacceptable second half performance. slacking after earning a mere 1 goal lead will cost us against bigger and better teams. the likes of utd/liverpool will pick us off if we pull something like this. kalou had no impact, but the same can be said about lamps and malouda in midfield. only good performance that i can recall is from essien and cech. wonder which chelsea will show up against pool on sunday. on a brighter note ashley remains fit and uninjured while deco and joey are in contention for a cameo versus the reds. something tells me we're going to need at least one of them.

A win is good to get us back on track. If we're in a losing rut, confidence will def drop, and that'd be more detrimental.

Liverpool at home will be cagey, don't think there will be any UCL style heroics the last time we met. Drogs and Nic upfront to bully Carragher and Co, while Ess is needed to neutralise Gerrard once again. Torres will be the danger man again, at least now no Alonso to score a freaky goal.

we have the home advantage..that'll be a huge confident boost no doubt. but if we concede first, its going to be an uphill battle.
we need to break the silly habit of giving away 1 goal before snapping into action. an on form terry and riccy partnership will do wonders for hilario's security. like aw13 said its going to be a tight game, though an early goal will definitely loosen things up a bit.

interesting anecdote i uncovered from another forum which puts things in perspective. the victory against apoel was our 1st away win on foreign soil in about 2 years. when u put it that way, i guess it doesn't sound too bad. besides that we need to remember some of our big guns like boss, drogs and ballack were missing. here's hoping they'll be the difference on sunday!

Btw, I thought hilario would play against AOEPL. No game preparation 4 him before pool's match?

haih i found that odd as well. i guess ancelotti didn't see it as an acceptable risk. cech had to start at apoel, and it proved to be the correct decision with his straightforward handling and smart saves. baptism of fire vs liverpool this sunday for hilario..probably ancelotti will be giving him a good pep talk.

yeppers! had two good chances to at least get in a shot on target vs apoel when he was setup by teammates. one was a miscue and another was skied. his form is a bit concerning. he's made the difference in so many of our games, its a bit sad to see him not banging them in. whatever the case is, surely he'll get better.

if you're trying to prove that Chelsea won 2 EPL and liverpool won none and therefore Chelsea will win Liverpool, than i can tell you that MU gonna win the rest of the season. Coz they won more "EPL" then any other club, so they will continue winning.

20 February 1992 - confirmed at Wiki..

A total of 43 clubs have competed in the Premier League, but only four have won the title: Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, and Chelsea. The current champions are Manchester United, who won their eleventh Premier League title in the 2008–09 season, the most of any Premier League team. Chelsea currently hold the record for most points in a season, while Arsenal are the only team in the history of the league to go unbeaten in a single season.

..........................................

Against Pool

Hilario
Bosingwa,Ricky,Terry,Ashley
Essien
Ballack,Deco
Lampard
Drogba,Anelka

*Zhirkov and Joey sub later...

If DECO play i think he will be at the top of diamond and LAMPARD at the left. Cant blame LAMPARD much he is playing in new position. Really love to see J.COLE at top, LAMPARD left, BALLACK right and ESSIEN at his best to mark GERRARD. CARVALHO will be a preferable CB than ALEX as we need some speed against TORRES. BENAYOUN dribbling can be a threat too but we have really experience SB and i think we will do fine there.

Still a tough match for us.

We're without cech and due to recent performance against APOEL. We might be without key players duo ballack and mikel too.

Liverpool may have lost to fiorentina, but torres is on-form..he did pretty well against fiorentina tho.

Anyway, as usual liverpool's all about history. They just love repeating it(which is a pain in the ears) and where is their BPL title? shakehead.gif

don't worry, carletto has confirmed that ballack was merely rested against apoel, and will be ready for liverpool.
its all eyes on hilario for me though. i'm not too worried about the rest. the gaffer would've known what to say after the apoel match.

you know when the devils are going to go marching when :

1)a red card is given to a player who kicked the ball to the spot where ref has given the foul(debatable)

2) 4 minutes of added play(justified) but Man City, anyone?

3) Sunderland have to defend like crap. with 10 men

'nuff said

pity though, sunderland played well until the red card incident.

let's hope chelsea can capitalize on this

they were holding possesion so well in united's half. they had been attacking. man utd only pushed to 5th gear after the red card.

we wont say that sunderland deserved maximum points, but we do say lady luck is at old trafford tonight.

Nice.. with him, 4-4-2 diamond should be fine smile.gif

------Essien---

Ballack----Malouda--

------Lampard--

Btw, ballack didn't play the last 2 matches..hopefully he'll do well against the pool..

Look like Ballack become a vital part of the diamond...

Are you sure to use Malouda...I prefer Zhirkov or Deco...cuz Deco also available...but to start both of them is not a smart things to do cuz they missed 1st team action cuz of injury...

Yeah ballack plays a vital part in diamond midfield...especially when chelsea played in charity shield...he and essien will rock liverpool's midfield tongue.gif

Deco and zhirkov still not getting enough first team actions...doubt they will start..

I dont know this is true or not..but based on my personal taught...

Chelsea with diamond....

We need a solid CB...and 'flying fullback'...just like Bos and Ashley now...more to Brazil now...

Holding Midfielder...best played by DM position...Ballack,Essien,Mikel..and sometime Deco

3 attacking midfielder...
LM,RM,and AM...

We dont need Winger! Alert to Stoch !

And two type of striker...long range and short range...just like now...Anelka shorter range...Drogba longer range...

Regarding solid CB...i think alex is a very solid one..last season he partnered very well along john terry. Carvalho is more towards a non-nonsense defender...he's like vidic...tacklings everywhere tongue.gif

yap Alex and Terry both solid...and Terry often march to the front when he play with Alex...Alex will be back in a few weeks...read somewhere..

Diamond required a 2 solid defender...cuz or fullback will fly to the front...

Wolrd best fullback always come from Brazil...now they got Maicon and Dani Alves...both wolrd class defender...fight for a spot....I hope our youngster can start to learn to run forward....i mean the LB and RB...they must became RWB and LWB...hehheheh

i agree that malouda isnt suited for the diamond, wide/wing play suits him more. there is no doubt he helped us greatly during hiddink's time where he partnered ashley on the wings. they were both awesome. but now that carlo decides to play a diamond midfield, malouda's expertise doesnt suit it.

i would still go for ballack deco essien and lampard. i hope lampard finds his form again.

We now i only trust in Alex compare to Carvalho. At least Alex know how to delay the defender / put the ball out until some cover coming back.

Carvalho will try to fly out to win the ball which some time he fail to.

Still remember when JM was still the manager of chelsea. Carvalho being one of the key player making crucial interceptions and tackles..yeah some were dangerous ones where he tackled with both of his legs from behind. Those were adventurous but not many defenders would be brave enough to do that. Until last season, he lost his position to alex, whom was one of the most consistent defender partnering terry too. I'd still love to watch carvalho playing, well no worries about alex...still 27..still able to last for a long time even to replace carvalho wink.gif

Btw, I'd be glad to see ferreira playing too...maybe in league cups/fa. Belleti may be aging but he's still doing very well. Just how he dribbles and assists anelka in UCL smile.gif

fantastic assist..no problem if he be a sub for ballack..

for me instead of trying to play Borini now..better try Sturridge lah..more epl experience....and proven epl goal scorer..i mean he can score lah.....Borini maybe next season lah..with Di Santo return home this January...
