Another candidate to ponder as 1 of Arsene's best signings. Jens Lehmann. Man how could I have forgotten Mad Jens. Had such huge boots to fill when he arrived replacing Seaman and boy did he do just that during his time with us. Those saves from Raul, Solskjaer, Riquelme..unforgettable. 10 clean sheets in a row in the Champions League, unbeaten when he was in between the sticks for an entire season in his debut year for us which went on to become 49 games plus his heroic performance in the FA Cup Final against Man Utd which was coincidentally our last major trophy.

This is what we are really lacking at the moment IMO. A goalkeeper that has the ability to single handedly win you games and even better, trophies. Mannone did it against Fulham but until I see more of him I'll reserve the superlatives and plaudits. But the young lad does look the part so far. Almunia has not convinced me enough thus far and as for Fabianski he has shown glimpses but he doesn't look like he is ready just yet.

Ah finally a typical "Fab-Fabregas" performance from Cesc that we all have been craving for. Van Persie and Arshavin might have stolen the headlines with their goals but Fabregas was outstanding today pulling the strings in midfield like we are all used to. Easily my MOTM with Andrey coming a close second. Lets hope our capi will be able retain his form for as long as he can and produce this sort of performance as often as he can.

Hey guys, just would like to ask your opinions since each and everyone of us here are a Gunner fan. I've been thinking a lot, and discussed with my friends but somehow it still crossed my mind. Its about our very own striker, Robin van Persie. I think that comparing with the other  big 4 (chelsea, liverpool, MU), our main striker,RvP isn't that "up to standard" compared to Drogba, Rooney, Berbatov, Torres. Don't you guys think so?

True enough RvP has his own abilities  and techniques (shooting + freekicks + corner + crossing ), however he does lack alot of other main attributes of a main striker such as physical strength (body), dribbling skills, heading. Don't you guys think so? He is a star, no doubt, but for a big club like Arsenal, the main striker should at least have skills of good finisher ( torres - air + ground finishing), or big body to stabilize himself when being pushed (Drogba and rooney), or at least have some dribbling skills ( Messi ). I don't think Rvp has any of those but our ex player (Adebayor) has. At the very least, Ade can head and has big body to stay firm while being pushed.

Is this why our goals aren't coming much from striker? We had Henry who could dribble and score, Bergkamp that could do wonders, Adebayor could head, but RvP (ermm, only his shooting?) I know that this is Wenger's choice, but however I feel that if we could have a better choice, we might win something this season.

Just my thoughts and hope for everyone's opinion on this..
*
Sigh when the strikers are hogging all the goals people complaint that we are a one man team and that our midfield is crappy and our set pieces are sh*t when our centrebacks don't head goals in but now when the midfield and defense are scoring and sharing the burden of scoring which obviously leads to a reduced number of goals from the strikers, people complaint that our strikers are not world class.

As for RVP define what do you mean by "not up to standard"? Not up to standard in terms of ? Overall contribution to the team? Amount of goals scored? Individual ability? Work rate? and I find it laughable and ridiculous that you even included Berbatov in that list of names.

Another one of those stupid lists of best and worst signings =.= It is only fair if you only judge a player whether they are one of the best or one of the worst signings based on what they have done in their time with the club after their career with the club ends. The rest fair enough but judging Cesc as one of the best or Diaby and Silves as one of the worst is still very much premature to say the least.

QUOTE(elvenchou1987 @ Oct 2 2009, 07:49 PM)
Well, thank god i'm not the only one finding our main striker a problem here. I guess its a fact that our RvP is very not up to par. I feel that our squad needs to buff up their body. It seems that they are always falling down easily even in penalty box and letting our opponent stealing our possesion through this. Look at Ronaldo last time, he was small size. But now, he is fast, strong and skillful. Just imagine if our very own fabregas is like gerrard of lampard or even Garreth barry, strong in physical.

Besides that, don't you think our left backs and right backs are not as "dangerous" anymore? Again comparing with other big clubs, Ashely cole, Evra, Glen Johnson, Bosingwa, etc. these players offensive skills cannot be neglected. But our Sagna and clichy, hmmm....I don't have any comment on their defensive capabilities, but  big question mark on their offensive side.

What do you guys think?
*
Again I ask "not up to par" in which aspect ?

Lol and since when is RVP inferior to the players that you mentioned a "fact" ? Any information or anything to back that up ? or is everything just based on your own "observation" that makes it a fact. Like giotto says and I very much agree with him its your mentality rather than RVP, Clichy or Sagna which is the problem.

If its stats you want to look at then come back in May 2010 thank you very much like Mie remarked. Because based on last season's numbers I will even go on to say RVP outperformed almost every name that you mentioned which he "supposedly" doesn't measure up to.

Well its good news that Robin ain't going all the way to freaking Australia for a meaningless friendly lol

As for Theo bad thing of not being selected is had he been selected he could get some minutes of match time under his belt in those England games to regain more of his match fitness. However the good thing of not being selected is, Theo always gets injured while playing for England.

Theo selected for England Under 21s instead. I'm glad he will at least be getting some footie be it for club or for country over the next week or so. He needs those match minutes IMO.

LOL... Now if Nicky wants 9 and Eboue has 27, why not 36? biggrin.gif

Lol lets hope Tomas stays fit and plays well enough to convince Arsene to hand him a new deal. I'd hate to think about how Cesc will feel if another one of his closest friends in the squad were to leave the club after the departures of both Hleb and Flamini before this.

thanks bro. for previous 2 seasons, i've been getting size L for myself so i don't think i'm going to change my size for this 1

however, this ladies jersey a bit tricky. or maybe i should just get the boy kit for my gal  tongue.gif
*
I would seriously encourage you to try at a Nike store first. Generally the size and length of it is more or less the same with the previous season one but its just the way in which the jersey is being constructed which makes the shoulder area a tad more fitting than the previous season one. Also the material used is not as stretcheble as the one used before.

Well of course not everyone appreciates the slightly more restrictive shoulder area, especially for those who have a slightly more athletic built with broader shoulders than an average person therefore I highly recommend you to try it first before you decide. A few of my mates who preferred a more relaxed fit has bought a size larger due to this.

I have no idea on ladies jerseys though lol

I don't know if its just me or what but I find Liverpool games always get picked over any other team when timings clash which is unfair. IIRC till now they have not even missed a LIVE match. They should rotate telecasts if the timings clash. This will be the 2nd time now we didn't get a LIVE telecast. I just might write to Astro and The Star soon if this continues vmad.gif

Arsenal vs Birmingham City Delayed 2.30am, 18 Oct Star Sports.

Btw AZ Alkmaar vs Arsenal NO LIVE as well WTF. Delayed, 6.30 am, 21 Oct.

ALEX HLEB HAS GUNNER REGRET
Switch to boyhood heroes Barca turned into nightmare

BELARUS star Alex Hleb has confessed he made a huge mistake in quitting Arsenal last summer.

The 28-year-old midfielder left the Emirates to make his "dream move" to Barcelona, the club he has supported since boyhood.

But it turned into a nightmare with Hleb barely starting a match for the Spanish giants and he has now moved on again, joining his former club Stuttgart on loan.

Hleb, set to face England in Wednesday's final World Cup qualifier at Wembley, admits he will feel sad being back in north London and so close to the club where he did so well.

Hleb said: "I regret leaving Arsenal. I was playing every week for one of the most exciting sides in Europe.

"I was being guided by one of the best coaches in the world and I owe Arsene Wenger a great deal. A footballer only truly exists when he takes to the field and makes a proper contribution to the team.

"But at Barcelona the season was spent with me almost entirely on the bench. I just couldn't continue with them.

"I was part of the squad that was almost unstoppable but it was hard not to feel detached from all the happiness and celebration at the end of last season.

"I could have gone to Inter Milan on loan but I turned down Jose Mourinho to go back to my old club Stuttgart, where I was always very happy."

But streaming quality not nice and on small screen tongue.gif

If got LIVE telecast can just grab a pack of chips, a can of cola, sit back on a recliner, relax and enjoy the match on a big screen LCD TV with a home theatre system. flex.gif

the reason why TM bid for the EPL license is because of the implementation of the optic cable for broadband in the future. optic cable is very fast u kno. and the project is  billions of ringgit project.my lecturer is one of the researcher for the optic cable implementation is malaysia.later in the future, we can use the internet to watch tv, and we'll not face the rain fading problem that occur in astro satellite signal.
*
We will talk when it is fully implemented and those cables are right under our very homes all connected and ready for use. Till then, thanks but no thanks with Streamyx as sh*tty as it is already and knowing Malaysia, nothing is certain till its right in front of your very eyes up and running. For all we know it could be like 20 to 30 years more ? lol....I'd prefer sticking with Astro for the time being....

What a shame..no Croatia lol I actually think they've got quite a decent squad. How they have managed to struggle in a group with opposition like that apart from England is surprising IMO

Some food for thought:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

http://www.7amkickoff.com/2009/4-5-5-5-1-0...ague-this-year/

Basically, victories are still the most important factor in winning the league, rather than merely remaining unbeaten with draws.
Therefore it's worth throwing bodies forward to chase a game when we are trailing rather than sit back and minimise the damage/GA, like how we poured forward in search for more goals in the City game. Of course, our pathetic display that day backfired and we got bombed with 4 goals. Yet when we took the risk and charged forward vs Blackburn, we reaped the returns with a goalfest.
*
Its always a gamble throwing bodies forward IMO. But I'd rather we fail trying rather than failing to try.
