I'm going to buy my new D5000 next week, thought of upgrading the kit lense to a better one. I like to shoot landscape and would also like to try to shoot macro.
Friends have been pushing for 18-200mm (for landscape), some recommended 17-50mm + 35mm F1.8 (for potrait).
I'm considering 18-135mm
Budget for Body + Lense: RM4000 (max

)
What do you guys think? Need some advice?

people wanna set budget for new body plus some lens, u guys ask him go for d90 meh.
a new d5000 body only cost around rm 2500, that leave u rm 1500 extra to spend on lens
18-200 is not a lens for landscape shooting to me, the 18mm is not wide enough and a secondhand 18-200 nikkor cost more that your budget
(can be replace by tamron 18-200 cost around rm1000 -1100)
35mm f1.8 for portrait is not really suitable, u have to go really near to get a head shot ( ok if u like full body portrait)
my advice = tamron 17 - 50 mm f2.8 (rm1300) = best replacement for kit len
17mm is considerable wide for landscape shoots,
50 mm with fix aperture of 2.8 will give u wonderful bokeh and a focus to your model
so i suggested u a lens that fit both your needs
nikon d5000 = rm 2500 + rm 1300 = rm 3800
left rm 200 = would be the must have for landscaper (TRIPOD!!!!!) a budget most expensive tripod from digieye is like rm 160 to 180
But u can consider getting a d90 + kit len which cost u like rm4100.
I welcome you to the expensive hobby

everything is money here
rm 4000 is nothing when u wanna spend it on SLR lol
I anti poison
