How many lenses do you plan to buy? If your budget is tight, then no point talking about buying dis lens and dat lens. Lens also expensive mah.  cry.gif With D60 also can take great pics. You can buy second hand old manual focus lenses. For landscapes, portraits you can get great pics with these also.  biggrin.gif

totally agreed with you, i see alot of photog nowdays are more like collector if their wallet is loaded with creditcards or cash. See no reason to upgrade a body just for a lens, not like u getting so many lens. Why upgrade for the sakes of getting af-s lens?? Do u know pro's still prefer to use manual focus? study those manual lens price, it was made to be manual and expensive. 50mm f1.8 is one of the main cause of people upgrading because its cheap, its a 1:1 prime fixed 1.8 max aper, manual focus is easy and better for portrait and macro man, i google it, i try it and i believe in it. Manual focus is the real skill.

so still i should get the 18-105 VR, coz i've heard that even though 18-135 have more mm but since it have no VR, it can disturb the pictures.

any 3rd party all zoom lense bro? neway thanx 4 da info of the price, now i can count my one ringgit hohoho
*
i did some research in looking for some all in 1 lens for travels, most would choose a 18-200mm with a VR, but the price for a nikkor 18-200 is not cheap. Of course, u can consider sigma and tamron which almost half the price of a nikkor.
After reading some reviews from so many users, i would choose a 18-135 mm or a 18-105mmVR as a travel lens.
Getting one of those in secondhand price is not expensive at all to try.

Would u mind to tell me why u need a 18-200mm lens?
Choosing a lens really depends on what kinda shots u hunting

longer lens or expensive lens doesnt make u look more like a pro cool2.gif

Hi, im trying to get my 1st dslr..could any sifoo here recomend me any nikon model?i want a good quality pic and can perform in low lite condition..my budget up to 3k..tq
*
All SLR were meant to to make good quality pic, the problem is the user, so if u are new to SLR, u will find alot of problem getting nice pics.

getting nice pics in low light conditions is a headache because it may force u to use the build in flash to make sure sure pics are not blur.

So much to learn in SLR world, if u dont have the patience and expect a miracle SLR that produce nice pics, i dont think u should start blush.gif

---------------------------
I would suggest u to get a secondhand as the way i suggest to all the new players because alot of nice and new secondhand SLR out there. U can start slow by buying a nikon set with a kit lens and get a nice flash gun for u to shoot in low light conditions (all this cost less than 2k) with another extra 1 k, u can come back for advice on what kinda pics u shooting and i ll give u some ideas. This is not a place where u should spend blindly.

Lens value = always good if its good and in demand

SLR body value = u ll lose like rm 200 to rm600 a year depend on the markets

Think and listen wisely rolleyes.gif

since its ur 1st dslr, I wouldn't highly recommend buying a mid-range camera like D90
although, if you are serious about photography, go for it. BUT, D90 body only costs up to 3K. D90 kit costs up to 4K+
If you're not serious, get an entry level, D60, D5000 or D3000.
For the lens, what type of shots do you wanna take?

a.ihsan,

i m so confuse now, still thinking which 1 i should go for, between the

17- 50 mm f2.8 tammy

95 mm f2.8 tammy

wanna find something to replace the my kit lens but i focus more on portrait

18-200, all rounder. save space, save time and reliable to go outdoor shooting. yeap i knew about the price. it gives a oohh la la in me, but when i saw my lecturer mounted it on his d40, i just couldnt be amazed more.

but for now, i think 18-105 should do.

wanna ask y'all opinion, if i buy the 18-105 VR, should or shouldnt i sell my kit lens 18-55 VR?
*
well if after u got the 18-105 mm and put away the kit lens for good, u better off selling it to someone who need it more right. It doesnt worth that much also , so u maybe can choose to keep the lens as your collections smile.gif
d40 is a very compact SLR, almost anything attach to it make it look small ohmy.gif

18-105 also kit lens right? but it comes with d90. so if i buy it, i think i should let go my 18-55 since both have VR and since 18-105 is within the range and have extra. for collection, i dun have dry box, so more lens needs more proper storage, and since i lack of it, i should sell it to those that use it more than me.

cheap or no cheap it still money and can cover 1/3 or 1/4 of 18-105 price yah~

thanx anyway smile.gif
*
yup, you are right most of the kit lens the nikon pair with the nikons SLR are very good. Of course most would prefer a VR for a zooms to minimize the handshake which give us blurred pics. But for long term, it is almost a must to take care of your SLR and lens smile.gif there are some cheap around below rm200++ dry box in market. rolleyes.gif

dont offer pointless poison advice man doh.gif
d90 abit over not to consider the price, its not even in the same category
there is only d3000 and d5000 to choose for in this category

cheaper d3000 close to what the d40/x/60 are with just some simple add on

alittle bit expensive than d3000 and alittle bit cheaper than d90 = d5000

All of this just plain business strategy, most of the price are very close to each other
so u would eventually upgrade or spend alittle bit more.

Best way is to get the cheapest secondhand that u can play and still can sell it with minimum lost
when u done enough with it so u can upgrade to the next level with just some top up

QUOTE(silver_de_gene @ Oct 21 2009, 03:07 AM)

can u help me in deciding which flash to buy? i'm getting more confused now. i want a budget flash. i dont know how to cls now but i would like to learn it some day. so if possible, i want something that can work as a commander for my d5000. since i dont have budget right now, should i just go for di622 for now and get another di866 when i can afford? (i can make di866 as master and di622 as slave) or just save all the way for sb900? (as i am worried about the problems regarding cls in di866). HELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP

Added on October 21, 2009, 3:26 amone more question:

which one gives more bokeh?

1) a prime lens 50mm set to a big aperture at 1.4 or
2) a telephoto lens zoom at 200mm aperture 5.6

i just wanted to know if i want great bokeh/DoF, which should i prioritize 1st? aperture or focal length? and if i have both 50mm 1.4 and 70-200mm 3.5-5.6 lenses, which ones should i use in order to get the greatest DoF? thanks a lot...
*
I never really try 50 f1.4 before but people still prefer the 1.8 out of the 1.4 not because 1.8 is cheaper, 2 of my fren sell their 1.4 and gotten a 1.8 instead. I m using nissin di866 now because i used to use a d40 with no commander and i thought i would eventually need a commander flash and the colour look much cooler. If on budget, i would suggest u to go for di622 because its good enough to cover everything just not as sexy as the sb600 which cost so much more. Use nissin = so far no problem, if got problem in future, it is the first flash with USB so we can eventually be updated with the best updates that may solve our problem.

Since u like bokeh so much, u should try get a secondhand 50 f1.8 which u need to manual focus since its widely use for portrait and flower shot with the 1.8 to actually make really nice natural bokeh.

U should tell us what kinda pics u wanna shoot, if u really need auto focus, i would also suggest u a af-s 60 mm f2.8 which u can do macro and stunning portrait at the same time and it can auto focus. af-s 50mm1.4 does not worth to invest for me.

Just my 2 cent, doh.gif

Alot of user change their body or upgrades just for the legendnary must have lens af-d 50 f1.8, why not buy it cheap secondhand like rm 370 and try play with it for few weeks and if u really cant use it then put up in forum for sale and get yourself the cash back, af 50 f1.8 is in a very stable market rate. Maximum cost of lost is maybe none to rm 30 ringgit lol. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(wuszhtag @ Oct 21 2009, 02:30 PM)
all bros,
im really keen to get nikon d3000 right now. already compare n test d3000 and 1000d in my hands and i really like d3000

the only things that bother me is the fact that d3000 doesnt have AF motor in it. is this a serious issue in terms of budget, performance and my noobness?

budget - how much usually AF lens cost? i know there are several types of lens but generally on what range.

performance - need to do manual focus while taking pics, does this will affect how fast can u focus.is manual focus really hard?

my noobness - im a noob. so i think using manual focus really can help me learn lots of things about dslr, but is it worth to get d3000 or i better go for d70 or d80?
*
why do u like nikon d3000 and why u prefer nikon better than canon?
Actually if u use nikon long enough, u ll be able to tell what kinda quality coming out from canons and nikons
This is just some comment that i got from most SLR players : -
nikon = VERY SHARP , MORE VIVID

canon = GOOD SHARP , SOFTER

Some wedding companies have request from customer to use canons only
because nikon is too good in bringing out all the pimples and eyebags doh.gif

Cons and pro,

Joining SLR world cheap and save is the best way to start
If u do alot of portraits, maybe u ll keen on getting a cheap 50 mm lens

If it yes, u could consider :-

canon 1000d = smallest and cheapest ( not sexy at all)

nikon d70 / d70s / d80 = secondhand body only = rm 1000++ / rm 1150++ / rm 1800++(very sexy )
d70/s consider quite old with small lcd screen but still more sexy on a guys hand

If u not planning to get this 50 mm, there is no problem for u to get a d40/x/d60/d3000 which some players start selling it cheap in secondhand.

well S mode is the fastest way to shoot some fast actions movement during enough sun light l, d90 is way larger than a d5000 but d5000 is nice with the rotating LCD .

A = aperture priority

Set your aperture and it will autoset a suitable shutter speed for the aperture that u set.

S = Shutter Priority

same thing just the other way around

M mode is fun of course

but u must be real good with a lot practice to set the right aperture with the right shutter to produce the kind of quality that u want icon_idea.gif

guys, between these 3 which one i should buy 1st?

1. flash (either nissin di622 of sb600)
2. prime lense (maybe nikon 50mm f/1.4D or 35mm f/2D)
3. zoom lense (nikon AF-S VR 55-200)

like taking indoors and night pics... thanks
*
1. Flash = nissin( price and functions) Sb 600 ( expensive and sexy) = nissin for me
2. prime lense = 50 mm ( better / too expensive) 35 mm ( cheap enough to learn about prime lens)= 35 mm
3. Zoom Lens = better go for 18-135 or 18-105 comparing the price of the 55-200mm.

u need a tripod for night pics and a flash of course
go for a sb600 if u have the commander mode icon_idea.gif
