wow, im using D5000 oso dunno it has this capability to do this at ISO 1600 thumbup.gif
i usually avoid using above ISO 800

very nice 'classic' look the pic got

my noob attempt:

it'll create bigger impact if u isolate a single subject n focus on it, eg a flower

QUOTE(FarCry3r @ Oct 19 2009, 12:38 PM)
Yes, aren't all pics should gone (at least) a little PP to fix it? Correct me if I'm wrong smile.gif

if the pics r nice straight off the cam, u dun nid PP nod.gif

QUOTE(silver_de_gene @ Oct 19 2009, 05:27 PM)
finally found someone who is thinking the same way as i did. so u must be good in manual focus. any tips? i plan to buy a 50mm 1.8 to go along with my d5000 but i'm afraid that i will take a lot of time manual focusing etc. if i can't manual focus fast enuf, i might as well fork out more to go for 35mm 1.8 instead. at least i can af when i'm shooting and manual focus when i'm practising.

Added on October 19, 2009, 5:43 pm

much better than the previous ones. maybe u should choose a more interesting subject instead. flowers etc... u must be shooting a lot. i can see that u improve a lot man. keep up the good work.
can someone tell me the scientific prupose of a dry box? it keeps our lens and dslr dry? anyone here got a drybox? where can i get it and how much?

Added on October 19, 2009, 5:51 pmscreen protector for d5000 is 2.7" priced at RM25. i got mine for free when i purchase my dslr but i accidently 'ter' tear it off from my screen and i can't manage to stick it back. so i bought a new one at RM25
*
manual focus is fun n nice to use, but the problem is if u r not used to it
the small viewfinder makes it hard for u to c whether the subject is focus properly or not

dry box keeps camera n lenses humid free
can get drybox at many popular camera shops or online
cheapest n smallest drybox around RM250, enaf to keep camera body + lens attacted + 1 or 2 lenses

so far dun have GGS Pro screen protector for D5000 yet sad.gif

anyway, if u dun mind manual focus, u can get D5000 body for Rm2.5k

QUOTE(iXora.ix @ Oct 19 2009, 09:06 PM)
what make 3rd party different from nikon in function ?
and can u explain more abut 500 mm lens..cant autofocus huh?>
*
not say 3rd party has better functions than Nikon
is for the same price, 3rd party has more functions
example:1)price of sb600(Rm750) n Nissin Di866(Rm850) almost similar, but Di866 has the power n functions of sb900(Rm1600)
2) price of sb400(Rm400) n Nissin Di622(Rm450) almost similar, but Di622 is almost on par with sb600

50mm 1.8 cant auto focus on Nikon lower end cams coz dun have build in motor in lens
higher end models have motor in camera body, so can autofocus
lower end models dun have, must use lenses with motor, called AF-S lenses
pls read 1st page for info on this

yupe, thats the only problem so far
Nissin may come with software upgrade to solve the problem soon
but price tag wise 1 sb900 can buy 2 Di866

*not be harsh, but pls think b4 u give comment, of coz many would like to have the high end sb900, but not all can afford it, thats y they consider 3rd party brand

Last time also i was thinking of buying di866,but my heart tells me that 'flash go for nikon'
so i buy sb-900 with battery pack tongue.gif
and the reason why i buy sb-900 is because its recycling time with battery pack,so fast !!  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

QUOTE(adix4 @ Oct 19 2009, 09:59 PM)
General Nic

what do u mean by manual focus? No Autofocus for D5k?
*
pls read 1st page for info
a motor is needed to turn the focusing mechanism in the lens
For Nikon, there r 2 type of lenses, 1 with the motor, the other without
the lenses without motor can only autofocus using motor in the camera body which only mid-range & high end models have
D40/D40x/D60/D3000/D5000 dun have body motor, in order to autofocus u nid to buy lenses with motor which r generally more expensive
the 50mm f/1.8 AF-D(Rm450) & 50mm f/1.4 AF-D(Rm1000) dun have motor
only 50mm f/1.4 AF-S(Rm1800) can autofocus on these non-motor bodies

TQ
*
im using cheapo screen protector given free when i bought my cam
actually any cheapo screen protector Rm15-Rm30 is good enough d
most important is the screen fits n is applied properly
the GGS Pro is special as it is cut from real glass n more durable
but the cheapos can withstand normal banging n friction

so when it is overheat, its time to change 'weapon' ,go sb-600! HAHAHA tongue.gif

wah, u got sb600 for backup somemore
i recently borrowed my fren 55-200,
bcoz of the range, my sb900 nid to give higher output flash, so 1st time experienced overheat sweat.gif

a.ihsan: what overheat in a flash is not the batteries, but the flash bulb
leaving the flash on when it overheats does not affect it, as the flash has overheat failure prevention, when overheat it'll jz go into idle mode

silver_de_gene: the major problem Nissin Di866 currently have is there is error when trying to CLS with SB900
the other problem is some, not all, Di866 r unable to iTTL with camera sometimes

as i explained in earlier pages, UV filters suppose to protect lenses from UV rays, but do have much difference from not putting UV filters
so basically UV filters act as lens protector, but sometimes UV filters give more problems than helping, especially creating flares
if u want to buy UV filters, cheapos r good enough d
the only difference expensive UV filters r they have less tendency to have flares, but not 100% eliminate flares

y taking macro pics nid take out UV filter, cos to prevent flares

what ppl meant by lens that is able to shoot in low light means u can shoot with high shutter speed without having underexposed pics
this is done by having larger aperture, means smaller f number.
with any image stabilization tech, u can increase the shutter speed higher somemore without getting blurry pics

is best to turn off VR when using tripod
cos the VR try to compensate small vibration cause by air movement or ground vibration which r negligible
the compensation made by VR r too much than needed, creating negative result instead of helping

mybiebie: Only expensive high end lenses such as 70-200 VR have ACTIVE n NORMAL VR

Di866 uses wireless trigger, IR or other tech im not sure
Di622 can CLS too, but detects camera built-in flash or main flash for trigger

hi there... i'm new in this section.. i'm the proud owner of Nikon D40 (don't laugh, I bought because of my course requirement) and it's 2 years old now... And I have the problem to autofocus my camera when i want to shot with auto mode... i set the lens to A, and the camera mode to Auto, but when i press the shutter half, it doesn't make any sound... but when i set the lens to M, and manually focus the subject, then I can capture the photo.. I wonder why, and should I bring my DSLR to get fixed? I love my DSLR because i invested so much for this baby... please help me. Thanks!

maybe the lens motor rosak? hmm.gif

can u help me in deciding which flash to buy? i'm getting more confused now. i want a budget flash. i dont know how to cls now but i would like to learn it some day. so if possible, i want something that can work as a commander for my d5000. since i dont have budget right now, should i just go for di622 for now and get another di866 when i can afford? (i can make di866 as master and di622 as slave) or just save all the way for sb900? (as i am worried about the problems regarding cls in di866). HELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP

Added on October 21, 2009, 3:26 amone more question:

which one gives more bokeh?

1) a prime lens 50mm set to a big aperture at 1.4 or
2) a telephoto lens zoom at 200mm aperture 5.6

i just wanted to know if i want great bokeh/DoF, which should i prioritize 1st? aperture or focal length? and if i have both 50mm 1.4 and 70-200mm 3.5-5.6 lenses, which ones should i use in order to get the greatest DoF? thanks a lot...
*
off cos if u can save to get sb900 then do it as u wont have drawback from buying it except the heavy weight
if u want commander function but on a budget than at least get the Di866, if u r lucky u may not get a problematic unit
even if got problem, Nissin has confirm they r fixing the problem now n will release a software upgrade soon
Di622 is the best bet if u jz wan a cheap external flash with basic functions, but without commander

off cos 1st rule to create nice bokeh is big aperture
i think u meant 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens, as there's only 70-200mm lens with constant f/2.8 which cost a bomb sweat.gif
high focal length can create nice bokeh too, but with the 70-300 at max 300mm min f/5.6, its very slow as u nid higher shutter speed to capture in low light
another problem with high focal length is the distance u nid stand back from your subject
so i suggest u use 50mm as thats what prime lenses for

QUOTE(maxh3h3 @ Oct 21 2009, 08:31 AM)
I never really try 50 f1.4 before but people still prefer the 1.8 out of the 1.4 not because 1.8 is cheaper, 2 of my fren sell their 1.4 and gotten a 1.8 instead. I m using nissin di866 now because i used to use a d40 with no commander and i thought i would eventually need a commander flash and the colour look much cooler. If on budget, i would suggest u to go for di622 because its good enough to cover everything just not as sexy as the sb600 which cost so much more. Use nissin = so far no problem, if got problem in future, it is the first flash with USB so we can eventually be updated with the best updates that may solve our problem.

Since u like bokeh so much, u should try get a secondhand 50 f1.8 which u need to manual focus since its widely use for portrait and flower shot with the 1.8 to actually make really nice natural bokeh.

U should tell us what kinda pics u wanna shoot, if u really need auto focus, i would also suggest u a af-s 60 mm f2.8 which u can do macro and stunning portrait at the same time and it can auto focus. af-s 50mm1.4 does not worth to invest for me.

Just my 2 cent, doh.gif
*
sb600 n sb900 dun have usb port but can update software too by using our camera body
y Nissin nid usb port for update cos its a 3rd party brand which have mounts for many brand camera

manual focus is nice, but dun u jz hate it when u missed a shot cos u were slow at manual focusing? tongue.gif
another problem with manual focus is the small view u get from the viewfinder makes it real hard to know u have your subject focused correctly, unless u have been playing manual focus for a long time n r used to it

u can suggest the AF-S 85mm f/3.5 oso, expected cheaper
but no reviews yet, dunno the f/3.5 gives any disadvantage or not hmm.gif
