D5000 body only Rm2.5k, D90 body only Rm3.1k
so proves 18-55mm is very 'cheap' lens? sweat.gif

Just wondering, what made you D5000 users here get it instead of the D90? Doesn't the lack of the in-body AF-motor worry you?

i want D90, but lack of Rm1k let me choose lack of AF motor body rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(project-o @ Nov 1 2009, 02:18 PM)
Would like to add something here. I used to have the hood for the 18-55 kit lens and didn't find it really useful to me I felt it wasn't deep enough to prevent flare.
To give my opinion on ne3ro's post very likely he is looking for a better image and better range where I and most of us originally were. I would recommend that he change the kit lens to the 18-105VR first and think of the other options like tele lenses etc later. This will already give a better image in the most useful 18-50 range.

Anyway... we can't compare the 18-200 to the 55-200 as they are 2 totally different lenses with different functions. The 18-200 is actually more of an 18-105 + better stabiliser (VRII) + better range and better build quality. Bearing in mind that he is using a D3000 which is similar to the D40/60 in weight the 18-200 is a heavy lens will make your body feel imbalanced and "head heavy". All that said above, will stick to recommending him to change to 18-105 VR first to improve image quality first and add 70-300 VR when he can afford it for tele.
*
i agree nod.gif
18-105 not only cheap but sharp too, it has better overall IQ on all range compare to 18-200
if want higher focal range then get 55-200 + 18-105

but with 18-105 u dun nid change lens that frequent if u wan focal range up to 105
n 18-105 is way sharper than 18-55

1st point i agreed it is more convenient btw 56-105 would be redundant depends on the usage ... 2nd point got reference? Thanks.

2nd point that 18-105 is sharper than 18-55 was discussed in D90 thread
got reviews n graphs to prove it nod.gif

is it noticeably sharp or just comparing graph? got link? want to buy 55-200 but after reading this, maybe reconsider...
*
comparison graph 18-105 is better, the pics taken by 18-105 is oso sharp throughout 18 to 105
18-55 starts to soften from 45 onwards
u cant compare 18-105 with 55-200, as 18-105 is almost all-in-1 lens, 55-200 is zoom tele lens
I've used my fren's 55-200 n IMO, it is sharper than all-in-1 lenses

QUOTE(jsc_tidus @ Nov 1 2009, 08:17 PM)
or u could buy the 70-300 which is cost only 400 bucks.. i'm considering this 70-300, 55-200 doesnt impress me much.. if i want a better & (+little bit money) telephoto lens, it would be 70-200 2.8 lens..
*
the Rm400 70-300 dun have AF motor
even if dun mind manual focus, the optics arent that great
the new AF-S 70-300 VR perform far better than it

i get my d3k in penang for a good price. shop near komtar... forgot its name tho...
*
Nikon got sell 18-105 separately oso, so u dont necessary nid to look for 2nd hand
new 18-105 around 1.1k

get either Sb600 or Di866 as these 2 r almost the same price n they have more functions n better performance than Di622

p/s: cant to this weekend.... will go to nikon whole day photography course for d3000 user....hope get more info there...
*
Cls minimum 1 unit can d
but only flash wirelessly count as cls la
but with D40/D40x/D60/D5000 we nid Sb900/Sb800/SU800 only can do cls

QUOTE
QUOTE(iXora.ix @ Nov 2 2009, 05:27 PM)

eh..how to settings cls wirelessly on sb-600 with d60?
need extra things? or do as slave mode?
*
QUOTE(maxh3h3 @ Nov 2 2009, 05:48 PM)
dont have my d40 with me but u can try go menu and search for the flash settings, its dont have commander in d60 so u have to set the wireless flash light power manually before u shoot. your built in flash will pop up and fire in order to activate all the wireless flash.Yes you have to set is slave mode.

Do some experiment your self, set your camera flash at the lowest and try use the lights from the wireless

if u succeed in getting a nice picture, then u can continue your experiment in getting the right kind of light u want for your pics.

good luck
*

Sb600 cannot fire using optical trigger, only radio triggered
optical trigger means the flashgun detects camera built-in flash to fire
so with D60 without commander built in, u cant fire Sb600 wirelessly unless use commander mode on Sb900/Sb800 or use external wireless commander unit SU800

QUOTE(latias93 @ Nov 2 2009, 11:12 PM)
I'm using 18-200VR, but 18-105 better IQ huh.. or get 55-200 + 18-105 as you suggest.. aiya.. takda duit  doh.gif

Also I don't really like the thought of lugging around an extra lens.. especially teles as so heavy le.. I prefer to 'pack light' tongue.gif

For me, I prefer flexibility biggrin.gif

there is a way to do wireless flash on d40 as i tried it before in a photography course, but i m not sure how to set it up. Of course a d40 dont have a commander mode to control all the slave.
*
as said by project-o, sb600 only can optical trigger with external 'sensor eye' nod.gif

QUOTE(project-o @ Nov 3 2009, 09:55 AM)
Having both the SB-600 and Di-622 I would say that power of both is about the same and the 866 (on paper) is in more in the range of the SB-900. As for the SB-600 with optical trigger, it does work if you add an external "sensor eye".

The 18-200 VR, despite some weak spots, with VR II stabilisation and such a wide range it is a very useful lens and can substitute any lens between 18 and 200 and deliver decent performance. Anyway to me, I feel the combo should be more of 18-105+70-300 (105-450 for DX) rather than 18-105+55-200. the 70-300 adds VRII stabilisation. I used to have both 18-135 and 55-200VR, at the long end, the 55-200 VR isn't that much longer (also taking into account minimal focal distance difference) and is softer in the 135-200 range.
*
18-105 + 70-300 is my 'wanted' combo too, but 18-105 + 55-200 combo is for budget limited ppl rite?

D5000 and D3000 are 2 different camera, not just different in functions (live view, video, 2 extra MP), but also different in sensor, D3000 (CCD) vs D5000 (CMOS). D3000 is like D80 brain in D40 body while D5000 is D90 brain in D40 body. Therefore, noise control of D5000 is better than D3000.

If you prefer daylight photograph or into landscape, D3000 gives you more vibrant colours with CCD sensor. While D5000 gives you more flexibility in low-light situation, its color is less saturated and slightly greyish. Just my 2cents. smile.gif

'eye' would be a more accurate term, cos brain is the processor laugh.gif

sorry, even DX lenses have crop factor on DX bodies
DX lenses is jz have the focal point focused on the center for small crop sensors
on FX bodies it'll have high vigenetting on the sides of the pics, or no image at all at the sides

those 3rd party grips can fit, what project-o means is it's not practical to use 1
cos D40/D40x/D60 not designed to use battery grip
every time u want to use vertical shutter button have to change shutter release mode to remote release

for D3000 & D5000 is different
3rd party battery grips utilize the accessory sync terminal for vertical shooting
so u dun nid to change release mode n can use the vertical shutter button immediately
im using 1 for my D5000 n i recommend D3000 & D5000 users to use it as it is very useful thumbup.gif

My friend is selling it to me, but he asked me to offer him a price.. How much is it worth for 2nd-hand? Thanks a lot smile.gif

definitely very sharp sharp for such a budget tele lens, n with VR it's useful
as what project-o said, 2nd hand price rm500-600, n u better check everything's working before buying
this lens AF tends to get noisier when it ages, noticed by me when use 2 of my fren's this lens, not sure other ppl got this problem or not

d3000 with kit lens, 8Gb mc, tripod, additional battery RM2220, is it good buy?
*
what brand n what class is the memory card?
the extra battery is ori Nikon or 3rd party brand?
if a reputable class 6 mc + Nikon battery,
it'll be Rm2000(D3000 kit) + Rm60-80(good class 6 mc) + Rm170(Nikon battery) = around Rm2200
so the price is quite standard

QUOTE(semaynikonian @ Nov 13 2009, 06:35 PM)
Hi all,

I just bought my D3000 not more than a week (4days to be exact), bought Body Only for RM1620 and top up RM130 for 4GB, a DSLR bag (cheap one), a tripop and a screen protector... (The screen protector brand DC what RSP is RM199, really expensive, but I dun know whether the price goes like this cause I'm new in this hobby).

I'm now having a Nikkor 18-200mm borrow from friend to play around. Actually aiming Nikkor 18-105mm (D90 Kitlens) to fit my D3000 for travelling purpose... Anyone here know where can get 2nd hand cheap?? or anyone here willing to let go theirs?? Pls let me know... Budget is around RM750.

I hope can learn something from all the Sifus here..  rclxms.gif

P/S: Planning to go Bkt Tinggi near Genting tomorrow for Photo Shooting cum outing... Might post some photos for urs comment... I'm really noob in this.

This Pic taken 1 hour after I got my D3000.
