QUOTE(bagata @ Feb 25 2010, 09:29 AM) bro, using big aperture n small aperture makes what difference beside the bokehness at the background? cz i duno how to play with aperture, jz use f2 for boken the difference is how it ties to shutter speedif u use big aperture say f2, for a given scene u might only need 1/2000 (juz example ar). but when u use smaller aperture, then for that same scene u'll need a longer shutter speed e.g. 1/50 or something. the change in shutter speed is the same stops as the decrease in aperture. put ur camera in P mode, and aim it at something. u'll see the camera will suggest a combination of aperture and shutter speed for you. change these using the joystick and the camera will give different combinations that gives you the equal exposure so anyway, he wanted to shoot with 20secs which is very long...meaning he has to use the smallest aperture available, thus F8 |

mmm my tips.. hehe
1. sometimes no need to include the whole dish. half of the plate will do 2. shoot higher. pros: can see more of the food, less background. cons: less bokeh 3. during daytime, when entering the restaurant, get a table with plenty of natural light 4. for noobs only: i purposely frame extra than what i need. this is so in PP i can rotate n crop a lot to get the best angle n composition 5. eat something light 1st. if i'm too hungry, my brain is screaming "FASTER SHOOT THEN MAKANNN" rather than thinking how to get good pictures |

^ u got the exposure right
sometimes u can also zoom maximum, use f2.8 n snap... this is a good way of eliminating distracting backgrounds |

F is the aperture settingi see, so u can zoom max to take macro shots eh, hmm i never try that , will it produce super blur background? it doesnt produce super blur background, it's just so u see less background ;p try urself to see the difference |

QUOTE(skon9 @ Mar 7 2010, 11:14 PM) I heard that LX3 flash is not powerful enough.. ISO is pretty ugly above 400. i dun think a sample shot with flash can give u any good idea about the flash. maybe compare against a camera u have la. but built-in flash is built-in flash, cannot expect much...good thing LX3 got hotshoe anyone care to share more photos with flash or maybe night shot, I wanna see the ISO performance and the flash |

QUOTE(skon9 @ Mar 8 2010, 12:00 PM) Sigh, after this I might have to reconsider my plan for LX3, cause most of the time I need to use it in low light condition and night... So ISO is very important for me if u want high ISO u need to skip the PNS world |

QUOTE(Nightstalker1993 @ Mar 10 2010, 11:02 PM) Just won first place in a photography contest in a cycling magazine with a shot taken by the lx3. congrats! really nice shot, the lighting makes it very dramatic ![]() ISO100, f4.0, 1/500, Wireless external flash If not for the LX3, i wouldn't had able to get this shot. a regular budget DSLR would be too damn heavy to lug up the mountain and also got an average max sync speed of 1/200, while lx3 can go up to 1/840 with the Phottix Tetra QUOTE(-kytz- @ Mar 11 2010, 01:40 AM) Guys 1 month shud be ok if u really try Planning to get an LX3 before i go for a holiday in Europe..I'd probably get it one month before the trip but the thing is that i'm no farmiliar with using aperture, focal length and shutter speed.I used to play around with my dad's old digital camera by just using the scene selections Am i ready for the King of Compact? Is 1 month enough to know all these before i take pictures of the sceneries of Europe? |

QUOTE(bagata @ Mar 11 2010, 10:54 AM) btw, jz back from cameron... and i faced some prob during the trip there... there is a time where i wanna take a pics where the ppl is in a sheltered place (darker) and the background scenery is under the sun (brighter), i ended up getting a dark object in front and ok background, tried using another mode (portrait i think) den get a well exposed subject infront and bright background... this is when we're supposed to use flashi think prob is because both thing (the person in front and the background at the back) are having two different light... any solution to this prob? thanks xD |

i guess flash is the most convenient lah. other method is to reflect the light onto the subjects...need an assistant to hold a reflector... leceh la

QUOTE(-kytz- @ Mar 12 2010, 04:32 AM) Guys thanks for your replies/advice for starters i recommend u use the scene modes. but when u're in a rush, or cannot decide which scene to use, then use iA mode. When i get the cam i'll try to check out the settings. But using only scene selections or IA be enough to capture a family photo or capture a good scenic background?I'm not sure weather i can do this in 1 month so just in case And another thing, is there any website teaching the really basics like shutter speed, focal length and aperture?Step by step hehe Added on March 12, 2010, 4:36 am@nightstalker Actually i've been eyeing this camera for quite some while Btw, which is better ?IA or scene selections? And what is P mode? Sorry for all the noobish questions focal length is just zooming. i think no need to learn about that...what u see is what u get i dunno what site to recommend. but maybe this is what u should know. got 3 main ways to control the exposure of a photo (light/darkness) which are shutter speed, aperture and ISO. try these 3: - put in S mode, n aim ur camera at something moving, maybe a ceiling fan. use the joystick to set the shutter speed at different settings, and try to take a picture of the fan. u'll notice at faster speeds (1/50, 1/200, n faster) u can 'freeze' the fan. but go too fast u'll probably end up with a dark photo. - put in A mode. position a subject A maybe like 1 meter in front of u, with another subject B 1 meter behind it. use a narrow aperture (let's say F 8), focus on subject A and shoot. then use a wide aperture (F 2) n take another shot (make sure u focus on the subject A). u'll notice subject B in the 2nd pic is more blur than the 1st pic. - ISO i think just leave at ISO 400 n u'll be fine |
