i notice that AFS cannot use 3D metering...
*
Of course cannot....because it will help to refocus if you recompose or if your subject moved. AF-S will not do anything after u half-pressed!
By the way, it is not 3D metering, and it has nothing to do with metering.

.. hahaha thats so funny rclxms.gif Ya know we kinda adopted the Malay word Gedix to go along with the term Hoochie here ...

@bold : you didnt sound convinced, and you sounded like you havent really grasped the whole shutter/iso/aperture concept ... which i know you will soon. I was once in your 'shoes' smile.gif Hang in there.
And these photos are FINE smile.gif Theyre sharp..considering youre using the P mode (or probably A mode) and all were shot at max optical/aperture anyway...with the ISO increment kicked in to compensate.

Bout the AF-A/S/C ... we might have to read the manual ...again. AF-C is for CONTINUOUS focusing ... the focus point tracks the moving object. AF-S is for single-still and AF-A is for AUTO which decides between S and C, thus AF-A is not a mechanism .. its a logical end that uses pre-existing modules which are AF-C and AF-S. If so happens that during AF-C or AF-S we manage to snap a moving subject/object and the resulting photo is out of focus, then that doesnt mean that "you can still snap a moving subject/object when its not in focus", it only means that AF-C/S did lock focus on something, its just that its not locked on THE object it was supposed to lock on. This only shows that AF-C/S is not as SUPERB on D90 as it is on D700/D3xs. Also ... by WE, i mean YOU tongue.gif

Anyway ... MrBart... i hope you dont turn your kid off just because someone advised you to tongue.gif And i say that with lovvvvvve ... mmuahhh.

Its not that hard to take pics. Compared to learning to play a musical instrument  shakehead.gif , taking pics is a much easier.  thumbup.gif Just keep at it and soon you will figure it out. What lens did you buy ... by the way?  hmm.gif

18-55mm. I think it requires some time to do the right setting for right pics

1st one seems ok to me...2nd one not really sharp.
What lens are you using?
1st pic slightly underexposed too. If you shooting during the day (outdoor), switch on ur active d-lighting....
if you have a flash, use flash, else avoid shooting facing the light source (sun in this case)

erh, i would say 50mm 1.8 isnt enough for me @ my house to freeze the movements. Even with flash, I always have to use ISO 400~800 with f/2.0~f/2.5 shooting kids...depends on individual, but i like the colors that we can bring out using flash. Besides, WB will be easier to control using flash too...(for me, WB very important esp for food photography)
it depends what you need....if you need tracking, i would recommend AF-C + high speed burst
Try using 3D-Tracking AF area in your camera and you will see AF-A working in AF-C mode.

Spot metering doesnt lock the subject smile.gif....

I'm using standard kit lens 18-105.. U mean even in the daylight still using flash to shoot for outdoor pictures??
