havent try MMS, just tried internet tenthering - WORKING !

on FW3.1 the maxis carrier will be 5.0.
FW3.0 or 3.0.1 will be 4.0

i m on FW 3.1 maxis not yet JB

i dloaded apps from apps center

after reboot

all apps cant start

just a splash of screen


so i removed all... re-install... it is fine and working

until just now i reboot my phone again, all these apps just pop for a sec n didnt load at all

guys any idea?

i m gonna to remove all these apps again

will dload tru itunes desktop n sync again

Hmmm a question guys, taking into account that my Iphone3gs from US is disastrously updated to 3.1 and therefore not unlocked...(and not activated)... is it normal that I can receive calls on it with my simcard inside??

I was so surprised as someone called me just as I was about to remove my simcard.. and I could answer and talk on it... is that normal?

izzit iphone only 3.1 and ipod touch is 3.11?

@tnsai: wow that's an awesome thing there. So your phone remains "unlocked" even tho you upgraded to 3.1? Hmmm.

but I can't call out... nor do anything else.. (please read my post carefully...)

All I see is that screen with the iphone cable pointing towards the (Itunes logo) and Oh I get to call 911


I joke with anybody that would listen that I now have an expensive(albeit free for me) paper weight that can call 911 and receive calls

but seriously, is being able to receive calls signs of an unlocked phone?? I don't think so right??

hey guys,i am currently using digi prepaid,at the top of my i3GS,there is a circle beside my telco carrier,what is this?when i am using hotlink prepaid,there was no circle but got a E at the top,is that the same with that small circle?

2. What is 'E' or 'o' next to my carrier?

that's pretty odd indeed. it's not supposed to work, ie. no network at all. which local carrier you're on now? does the top left shows any sort of carrier name?

it would be crazy for me to ask a question like that, to even begin with.

Yes! it shows Maxis 3g! Which is why I'm confused lol.. but I still see the "please connect to itunes" picture.


Also, this phone as I mentioned before is given to me by a relative that works in Apple and as such its a US Locked phone.


So, in a nutshell..

1) I don't see anything but that picture on the main screen.
2) I can still go to emergency calls
3) I can receive calls
4) I can see the maxis carrier name on the top left corner
5) When I press the home button + another button (uhhm forgot which one), it emits a camera photography sound
6) I used redSn0w on it a couple of times.. in which it stops after the 2nd stage message and stuck at Waiting for Reboot

and lastly, when I finally got the phone when I turned it on.. it just shows the picture to connect to Itunes etc and there was no emergeny calls slider etc at the time.. (putting sim card inside doesn't work either)

So, I plugged it to ITunes(i've never read about 3.1 problems etc and I still curse my carelessness) and did the restore etc.. then I did the unlock process and No.6 happened .... then, read the various info around the net and realized I'm screwed, so I was going to put away my free Iphone into a hole somewhere forget about it and get one from Maxis .. and I receved a call from my friend just as I was about to remove the sim card :/ and even talked for a while and joked that I'm now on the Iphone "ha-ha-ha".. and at this point I assumed it was normal ...

Anyways, maybe this free IPhone can get fixed etc but I've decided to order one from Maxis(less hassle) and if the free one ever gets fixed, I can give to my wife hehe.. but now that you are saying its weird, has gotten me intrigued about why its like that..


p/s: Hmm, when I get home I'll grab a photo for you guys to take a look if you are interested.

Update : After scouring the net, a few people have the same problem as me and it seems that the phone needs to be "activated" ... hmmm still hope after all I guess? If it works, my wife will have an IPhone while I wait for the one from Maxis

the reason being i have an unstable connection at home and it kept stopping around 10mb. since now i already have it, what should be my next step, it is not explained in the above link.

assuming that you are on windows.

1. plug in your iPhone.

2. wait for iTunes to detect it.

3. at the main page of the iPhone on iTunes, hold shift on either "restore" or "update" as desired and select your downloaded firmware.

4. follow on screen instructions

I've taken a few snapshots of my Iphone 3gs locked from US .. and I suppose I upgraded it to 3.1 since I did a restore on ITunes




I can confirm its not JB'ed bcos I can't use the IPhonebrowser on it.. but I could definitely receive phone calls on this thing. I've tried using redSn0w to jail break and it goes through everything and it says Reboot -> Done! but the IPhone remains on (blank screen with light on) until it shuts off byitself.. and nothing is changed..

Anybody heard of this before?

look i have a same screen as u... but mine is maxis set, when i connect to itune its show me "inactive phone please insert valid sim card to unlocked the phone" but im using the phone for a month n its just happend today

looks like i gonna upgrade to 3.1
