i have used australian 3GS unit before for a week, same result.. 50% low strength and 50% good strength bar.. try it ur self, put ur phone down and when the signal going tu 4-5 bars, take and hold the phone(bottom to half), use ur right hand and wait for few seconds.. make sure u turn 3g on..
*
then nothing is wrong your maxis bound unit. you may be unfortunate to be in a network "loophole" (i could only speculate).

for example over here, i have identified a few spots that when the buses/trains go by that area, i lose 3G connectivity immediately.

OK mod, please merge this thread to any thread if you think it is not necessary for me to open a new one..

This is my prob:-

I bought iphone 3Gs from Maxis and jailbreak it. It works find for a few weeks. Then today, after friday prayer, I saw my Iphone cannot get any signal from Maxis.

1- i tried to on and off again many times but still cannot get a signal
2- Take out the simcard and put back in but still no success
3- swap my sim to my friend phone still cannot use my sim to his phone and he also cannot use his sim to my phone. He using Maxis postpaid while im using prepaid
4- reformat my phone still cannot get any signal.

What's the problem actaully? I didn't drop it. Treat it like my wife. So, any ideas? Is it the sim card problem or the iphone itself? hmm.gif
*
alright. now that it is merged, i can try to help (i didn't report it)

at step 4, did you attempt to restore as a new iPhone or from previous backup?

Added on August 28, 2009, 8:30 pmhowever you have tried using your SIM card on another (another) phone?

because if it still fails, i think you should have the SIM card checked first.

weird because, SIM cards are purportedly to be extremely resilient

Its ok..i also hope that mod merge it. Anyway, after the restored process, it goes back to the old setting cause i already set a backup for this phone. Anyway, thank for reply
*
you shouldn't use the backup. opt for a fresh copy instead, as shown in the picture belwow

After using an application, does pressing the home button quit the application completely? As in like it's no longer running in the background.
*
by right it should (at least for me)

non 3G S -> hold the home button until it re-springs

3G S -> hold the top right power button until "slide to power off" comes around and then only hold the home button until it re-springs.

however nothing beats a complete reboot!

If the phone is not jailbroken then it will not be running in the background. This applies to all apps from the appstore except for some stock apps i.e. safari, phone, mail etc. If you jailbreak your phone, you can make any application run in the background using backgrounder.

@nokia2003
The "hold power button until 'slide to power off' and hold until it resprings" are firmware specific i.e. fw3.0 and above and not phone specific.

*
ha ha. my mistake then! my apologies

i got my 3G S shortly after OS 3.0 was released.

i made that assumption because only 3G S has that voice control feature.

all my podcasts are free (legitimately) actually.

just have to be a little creative with your keyword terms in the iTunes search box.

off topic, but having this, as my third generation iPhone now, my life pretty much evolves around it already.

try to reset network settings first.

settings -> general -> reset -> reset network settings.

if that fails and you are sure that you have not disabled any network input via your cydia/installer, i can only suggest that you do a full restore, without the backup, as a new iPhone

OK.. I searched and viewed numerous threads but unable to find an answer particularly for the new iPhone 3GS running OS 3.1

The issue I am facing is:

I would like to transfer all my contacts from my old phone (Sony Ericsson) to my new iPhone 3GS. Is there a way to do this? Also can bluetooth be used to transfer contacts?

Thanks in advance.
*
from your SE phone, copy your contacts to the SIM card first.

and from there, use the function on the iPhone to copy over.

or, if you are move tech savvy, use the preloaded SE software on your PC and transfer the contacts to outlook and synchronise via iTunes

Restore to Original Firmware or JB Firmware?
*
original, unaltered firmware of course.

QUOTE(prototype_x0 @ Aug 31 2009, 01:34 PM)
tried it but failed. it still happen.. any necessary workout that u might suggest?

but for now, i will just wait till the next firmware release, dev team release the jailbreak, then i will do update+jailbreak.. pretty sure it will cure this nuisance..
*
not much that be done. i'm sure you know that JB causes an iPhone to work slightly differently that it is supposed to be.

I was wondering why both of my iPhones cant send MMS.
OS 3.0.1 JB. Maxis APN is correct at default APN.
Tried many pics from small to large, jpeg to gif. All failed.
*
but your said SIM card works well on another MMS-enable phone (not just iPhone)?

Yeah, i was able to MMS using Nokia N95 8GB.
Been attempting 2 Maxis postpaid & prepaid simcards but both also failed.
Freshly reinstalled firmware & JBed also helpless.  rclxub.gif
*
i have no idea then.

because i was having difficulties previously and mine clashed with the virgin mobile profile, when i ported over to optus.

so optus had to manually delete my profile and then start from the start.

i had to use a SE phone and then send the MMS to myself to create a new optus MMS profile.

As what Nok said, you don't have to jailbreak your iPhone to be be able to do what you want. Just take some time to either google it up or read the threads here for the tutorials.
