i guess the sad thing for me is that i've always held eduardo in high esteem in terms of footballing ethics. he seemed to be that hardworking player, doesn't make much of a fuss, and was just interested in playing football... so now watching the dive, i feel kinda sad cause i thought that he would be a good example for the younger ones to follow, to prove that honest footballing still counts for something...

Sigh yeah which was why my first initial reaction when he took a tumble was "Penalty". Was both surprised and disappointed after viewing the replay. However I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt this time and I don't think he is a cheat. I still think he is an honest and a nice person. Back in the day Pires was a pretty honest chap apart from that Pompey incident and to be fair to Super Bobby he never repeated it again in an Arsenal shirt after that. So yeah, just hope he doesn't do it again.

I don't know real story behind but statistically, we were not as desperate to score as Celtic. So, I do not see there is any urgency to risk your reputation for a penalty.

I may need to review the replay - but I have an assumption that Eduardo jumped to avoid being tackled badly hmm.gif

yeah man.. i can totally relate to the feeling... =(
even though i don't think eduardo is a cheat, it's gonna be tough for him to rebuild that reputation of an honest, hardworking footballer again. just like pires.... non-arsenal fans remember him remember him for that dive more than anything else... but yeah, just hoping that this was an anomaly in an otherwise enterprising performance from him.

kaka91, hahahahahhahah.... i laughed when i read the part about eboue... but i must say that his goal was superbly taken. he seems to have found a new zest in the red and white shirt of the arsenal. i'm liking this new look, new feel arsenal.

and i think bendtner's backflick was totally awesome... some people make unfair comparisons between him and ade... but honestly, in terms of industry, ade's a slacker compared to bendtner. =)

That we will have to wait and see if UEFA decides to take action. Technically they could hand him a ban for bringing the game into disrepute if they wanted to I guess.

I think I've to watch the goals replayed on ESPN later today on Sportscenter. I hope dudu wasn't a 100% diving to get the penalty. Let's hope he comes out and clarify on the situation.

I don't think there will be a ban. It's the referee and their officials who are unable to detect it. If they do it in the game then it's a yellow card. It's definitely not fair to ban the player.

please stop all this "i'm sad/disappointed with that 'dive'..". what happened to those complains about our capitan being kicked da whole game during da 1st leg?? honesty doesnt pay nowadays, i'm talking abt in football only, nothing to do with personality or whatsoever.. If u play football personally, u'll know how it feels when u're being rough-up. I believe Dudu is thinking more abt "it's payback time".. Actually it's not a bad thing, look at Drogba, he can dive anytime but at the same time, he's as strong as a bull. Now, for defender, he'll think "tackle him maybe resulting a penalty, closing him down also not an easy feat"..

It's pure stupidity for those who called him a cheat, i'd say 'exploit' more appropriately... tongue.gif ..From da ref point of view, Dudu was 'fouled', Linesman didnt say anything, so it's spotkick. It's FIFA who insist no video should be used, go blame FIFA then..

Nobody likes losing..Even our very own Le Boss used to be a bad loser but changed... biggrin.gif ..Celtic's players talked so much craps b4 da game but did they really up their game last nite? I think it's a no-contest. During last season or pre-season, there are so much hype abt we need to win ugly or play dirty more. Now, it really happens and everyone cries... doh.gif

dude, no one is saying it was fair that our players got kicked all over the pitch or that rooney's dive or gerard's dive was any better or justifiable. and yes, i'm sure many of us would join in the complaining and stating our distaste just like when eduardo broke his leg.
however, saying that it's ok for eduardo to dive because our players got kicked all over the pitch doesn't make the act right. again, like i said earlier, two wrongs don't make a right.

and yes, i do play football personally, and yes, i've been roughed up many times. i've dislocated my shoulder because of a challenge from an opponent player in a tournament before, so i know what i'm talking about it. but regardless, if i dived to win a penalty, the act is still wrong.

again, like what sigheart has mentioned, we weren't playing badly and we weren't in a desperate situation to score, so it makes the dive all that much harder to swallow. perhaps it was a spur of the moment, perhaps it was instinct, but whatever it is, it wasn't right. to me, i call a spade a spade.

but yes, i will agree that to label eduardo a cheat because of that one dive would be unfair.

they could if they wanted to...

QUOTE
Donati believes Eduardo should be treated the same way as Lithuania striker Saulius Mikoliunas, who cheated to earn a spot-kick against Scotland at Hampden Park in September 2007. Video evidence was used by UEFA to punish Mikoliunas, who was given a two-match ban.

The SFA also used retrospective punishment to sanction Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty, who feigned being headbutted by Aberdeen defender Charlie Mulgrew during an SPL game in May. And SFA chief Smith wants UEFA to do the same with Eduardo.

that was the main reason why i was really disappointed.if it was the last minute and celtic leading 2-0, and if dudu dived and won the game.. um.. i think i still will be upset, but it is a happy upset tongue.gif but 2-0 up, he did not have to do that. well whats done is done. on another note, i wish dudu had dived when taylor was coming at him at birmingham that day. heh

i think it would be good to see if arsenal can hold their own against MU without having fabregas. the young ones have acquitted themselves well against celtic yesterday.... besides, if he's not fully recovered, i'd rather not risk it. i don't think we will be outplayed like we were last season in the CL.
