The gathering was fun and awesome! Thank you all for putting time and effort to attend!
The attendance tonight was more than the list, I think 13+3 (minimoke's family) of us Thanks minimoke for attending, I'm grateful and surprised you took the extra time to visit us when you were suppose to go back to JB. It was nice meeting you and great for you to share your knowledge. Thanks susuman for helping with map directions to MCD and proposed 'dark-area', it was splendid. Thank you!! It was really great to see our own community of flashaholics, everyone has different kinds of lights, from the smallest to the tallest and biggest, having owned brands and models that I only can see and read about it in forums like here and CPF. But to finally grasp the feel and look at every type was awesomesauce!! Real-life beamshots yay! The 'park' outing was great!! Not to mention before we began our walk, Polkiuj arrived late and did a spin on his corolla... show off Thank you all again! Let's hope for another gathering eh Take care ya'll |

QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 25 2009, 11:15 PM) Actually what would be really great is a 2days 1 night camping trip. Yeah, I thought of that too.. lol, but I don't think many of us can make it a one-night camping thing THAT would be an awesome chance to really play with the lights... And we can actually light up the whole camping area from the moment darkness falls till dawn with the amount of batteries and lights we all have. QUOTE(Zen|th @ Oct 26 2009, 09:25 AM) Wow.. Crazy strobing... I don't think anyone was watching us, we went to quite a secluded place, hardly any traffic or cars around except ours Were there any other people watching u guys?? I bet they could see your lights from a mile away! I was surprise there were no policemen who thought that it was some sort of mogok QUOTE(ray2ray @ Oct 26 2009, 09:34 AM) what kind of headlamp was that, petzl or zebralight? NS used a Nitecore headband, with my Quark AAT and (I THINK) it's an tiablo or olightQUOTE(old newspaper @ Oct 26 2009, 10:15 AM) my observation during gathering : Ah, Striderman brought his NiteCore D10 1. not a single nitecore light presents that nite .... add your observations too.... You know, I just noticed last night when looking at my TK40, one of the die appear a little brownish, the other 3 has a slight shading around it... shocking eh. I remember, it was on turbo at least 15mins+ when we were comparing beams, and a 5 mins+ strobey later. Continuos operation was mostly on low/medium when we were walking and chatting. So far, I've used medium for 3 hours and high for 45 minutes continuously without issues though. With the diameter of the TK40's heatsink, did not expect that it's still a danger at 10 mins+ operation without cool air flowing. My TK40 is still okay though, still looks bright, but I think it already had some lumen casualties. |

QUOTE(susuman @ Oct 26 2009, 11:28 AM) I think Fenix over drive in the Turbo mode, as I told you before, it happened to me on the Fenix P3D, 30 min in Turbo, the plastic dome lens (what it called ah?) cover the LED will be over heated and become brownish. Though the die may be a bot yellow also, but the dome lens will kill alot of lumens. Take a photo may, for us to see? Yeap, I remember your P3D story. I'll have a photo soon. The TK40 suppose to have thermal protection though, but it looks like it'll only protect the LED from being totally damaged rather than partially now. So for Fenix owners, check your manual, it says don't run on Turbo for more than 10/15 mins. (Silly clause QUOTE(Striderman @ Oct 26 2009, 11:59 AM) Actually i'm contemplating to get myself TK40. I'm already got the 12pcs of Imedion AA together with Maha MHC9000. Along the way I already spend most of the budget to surefire M3 and M3T. The M3 already received but the M3T still no news. Let me poison you with the Quark Turbo AA^2 with XPG LED!!! pseudoblue, pls give us some more report about the LED after somemore usage. I like the beam but that night sniper's m2xc4 (is it the correct model?) really got me on the built quality. maybe i should get that also. However L1 mini also quite nice and also ....... EagleTac M2XC4 was impressive and I think it had the furthest throw compared to all, even the TK40. The new clicky feature allows the light to be completely shutoff which is great. The UI is also easy to handle, and battery management for 2x 18650 also seems good. But you need to hear more from sniper69, he's a heavy user of the M2XC4 neutral white and he said it was very good. Strinq also can give feedback about his cool white version. Here's what I think about the TK40... I've put it in spoiler cause it's abit long » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

QUOTE(RookieDaddy @ Oct 26 2009, 05:15 PM) I use 3 sets of LSD, 2 sets of Eneloop + 1 set of Recyko+. yup... these are practically what I complained to Fenix a few months back, but what I received in respond is I guess some badly developed Artificial Intelligent's reply. maybe the TK30 is to address some of our concerns... but still no neutral white MC-E from Fenix I'm using 8x Powerex Imedions for me TK40. It was never on lithiums though (I've asked fenix about a month ago regarding lithiums and *they said it'll harm the light). |

QUOTE(susuman @ Oct 26 2009, 11:04 PM) But I got it removed now, haha, but too dangerous and it was Q5, it has only 1 dome lens. (I accidentally heat it when I want to heat the paint, and a layer of burnt plastic fell off, and it has no more mark. DON't try it, I was just lucky.) Wahh.. interesting, okay. I've got Gwen to check out for me from the supplier about my case. Let's see what happens This post has been edited by pseudoblue: Oct 26 2009, 11:39 PM |

QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 27 2009, 12:04 AM) Some pics just up to compare the tint of the XP-G R5. Oh man, it does appear a lil greeny, but the hotspot is nice and floody. Looking at the color chart seems okay tho.. Need to see a real life beamshot..Various tints of a few lights QUOTE(Shinnx @ Oct 27 2009, 01:55 AM) Actually i was expecting the TK40 to perform better. Ah the TK40 has alot of goodness, but if you specifically want a thrower, a MCE light might not be the best choice. Tho I read that the Jetbeam M1X has a very good throw reflector..Oh..i'm the one with the LedLenser on that day. Now that I mentioned it, I remember someone here had a Jetbeam M1X??? QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 27 2009, 09:29 AM) I still really want a HID just for the heck of it... Oo, any idea which HID you're looking at? Polarion? QUOTE(old newspaper @ Oct 27 2009, 10:58 AM) just got in touch with the new manufacturer.....with their new lights range....starting from USD 44, everything can be customize : the emitter, the reflector, the color, personalize name engraving etc etc...might get a sample from them tho.... Yeah, seems like a good start for our own light, any web or pic reference? |

QUOTE(jwyj @ Oct 27 2009, 02:28 PM) How abuut another gathering? I'm coming to KL on 4th Nov. 2 nights (wed & thr) at Nikko hotel, Ampang park. We can do some B/S/T and modding. (Anyone know how to take the Q5 out of the A9? I wantto replace it with MC-E or P7 pill)... in the hotel room or somewhere outside, as long as got LRT station nearby. Huhu By the way, who's up to meet JWYJ? He has loads of surefires and some big lights, can ask him to bring the ones you wanna see It's a working day and not sure if most of us are available. I can suggest, 1) for jwyj to take LRT and KTM down to Serdang (abt 40mins). Someone can pick him up from there and meet in Seri Kembangan area again. Then send him back to station by 11pm. I can't remember if LRT/KTM station close at.. 12? 2) he can take LRT to Kelana Jaya instead, we meet him in PJ then. 3) We all go and meet him there at the hotel, depends if you wanna drive or take the train. Bring our stuffs whatever, and open a party in his room. For comparing beamshots, we can just shootout from his hotel window |

At the gathering, susu mentioned about using 18650 unprotected cells from a dell laptop battery, well I found one, did some kungfu on the casing (*ok well I was gentle), took a voltage test and no reading at all on any.. looks like all dead batteries

QUOTE(susuman @ Oct 28 2009, 03:10 PM) Hmm, bad battery huh. Why dell battery so sampah? I took from a 7 years compaq, all cell are good! and recently, 1 dell battery, 3 out of 9 are dead cells too. Not only dell, some other brands I know of dies in less than 2 years. Not exactly sure why, on the users I support, I had a speculation most of the batteries die suffering from heat. But lately, batteries are dying in a span of 2 years only... so heat or quality? We still have older models of dell laptops and their batteries are still functional at almost 5 years now. We could expect that manufacturers are improving chemicals and materials for lithium ion batteries, but it looks like we are moving backward. Can we trust if corporations like Dell, actually get their lithium ion batteries from a proper source or a dupe, to maximize profits you know... Just thinking out loud... |
