Guys,
Just want to shared with everyone the laptop my friend purchase recently from Keypoint Computer Sdn. Bhd. during KL PC Fair.

The last PC Fair my friend purchase a ACER Mini from Keypoint Computer. My friend got the laptop when she turn on the laptop there is no software preloaded on the laptop while it suppose to have windows XP Home installed. So we went back to the shop to solve this problem but unfortunately the shop is half empty and only admin girl is handle the busy situation because we're not the only person there to complaint. The admin girl is so helpless because there is no technician around.

We so frustrated then we went straight to ACER service center at Times Square where the Service Agent told us our laptop is not a local set and they can't service the laptop for us. We're so surprise to heard our laptop is not local set. The Service Agent show us our laptop doesn't have SIRIM sticker and the software is register under US. He told us this company is well known of bring in oversea laptop to sell in Malaysia. Me and friend feel so bad and got cheated by this type of company.

When we purchase the laptop they didn't mentioned the laptop is parallel import.

Please be aware when purchase laptop during PC Fair.

The manager name is Eric 0127285766 and i already sent my complaint to Consumer Affair regarding this issue.

The last Pc fair, almost every booth has put up printed notifications of such notebooks. Especially those from HP. I did not know Acer would also face this problem.

Anyway if your notebook is supposedly preinstalled with Winxp Home, there should be a windows OEM sticker with serial number on the back. Borrowing a XP home OEM CD from your friends or copy one from your friendly PC shop would solve your problem. The drivers you could just download from acer website.

learn buy original. don't always go for cheapest. Some people buy notebook with original microsoft software but some trader only stick some used microsoft sticker(which is illegal vmad.gif ).

I told some of the customer before, they say I talk too much. Anyway, we just run business, unless customer think we are friend.

Too many trick in Computer Trading. If interested, email me. Some PC hate me if I tell.

it is not illegal to sell parallelly imported products. As a consumer, if you are buying, you need to know your rights. Buying parallel products means you won't get support from local distro. You only can get warranty from the company doing the product.

So if the seller provide lousy service then your are spoofed. Well, what you pay is what you get. Thing is, consumer in Malaysia don't see long term. They only see what is in front of them. That's the price. When things got problems already only they start to panic or complain.

File a claim under the Consumer Claims Tribunal

The form is free and the fee is RM5.00

No representation is to be made by a lawyer. Therefore, your cost will remain at Rm5.00

Representation will be made by parties themselves.

Gotta see whats the description on the invoice, receipt, any representation made during sale, etc.
:-)

Also,

These are the type of claims. Do note that the interpretation is up to the tribunal and you may have a case albeit a borderline case. So try and see if your case fits and make representation for a full refund.

Recently keypoint being sue & compounded amout to RM 430,000 due to illegal software being installed...

Although they selling USA unit, but doesnt not mean they cheating consumers... This is arm length transaction.. Moreover their selling price much cheaper... and provide after sales service.

Any problem with unit may get back from shop, they will handle warranty & technical checking for those consumer..

Yes! right, USA will bring larger profit margin... Those laptop selling by this company will sole responsible for troubleshooting...

This mean nothing related to those manufacture in malaysia.. etc HP, ACER, ASUS...

Please do not pin point this company..

Also, yes, they are CHEATING consumers.

They installed Celeron Processors in their systems and flashed the BIOS to show P4 before.
It's not in a sense misleading but pure cheating.

Using celeron flash to P4.. blink.gif ... but this is rarely case happen to key point...

If consumers facing problem with incompatible hardware, he/she can refer back to shop.. i believe they will exchange new unit to buyer...

moreover nowdays they facing alot of court case, they wont do such of this silly mistake to boost up sales & damaged their reputation even worst..

Stay away from Keypoint. There was an apology ad in the papers today (I think) from Keypoint stating that they infringed the copyrights by using pirated windows.

I'm surprised they never learned their lesson...

Nope they never learn. Actually, it's they HAVE already learnt from their lesson. They have learnt that by by having a good law firm backing them, even Consumer Associations can do nothing to them. They are willing to drag your case for months before you actually get anything or even nothing.

And I'm not talking in terms as an outsider or unsatisfied customer.
I'm talking as someone who has actually worked in there before.

I bought a 17" Toshiba from Keypoint 4 years ago. It is was new set.
I am very happy with my Toshiba, the cost is a lot cheaper compare to most other similar spec. laptop.

Althought it is an American set, and the Toshiba service centre Malaysia can't provide support to my Toshiba.
But i am able to get it repair in Lowyat when it has problem and i can bought new batteries online from ebay seller.

Unfortunatelly, it got stolen while i was staying in a Hotel few weeks ago.
I shouldn't leave it in the Hotel room when going out.
I should bring the laptop with me or lock it inside safe box.
(but it is very heavy, lazzy to carry it all the time when shopping in shopping mall)
(not sure the safe box is big enough or not)
an expensive lesson for me. cry.gif

It's true. Price diferrence not much. There'll be tons of XYZ fly by night companies there. I only buy from regular shops like CZONE, ALLIT etc even at PCFAIR...which is no point coz i can get the same price also during non-PC FAIR.

Good stuff no cheap. Cheap stuff, sure dodgy.

Guys,
Just want to shared with everyone the laptop my friend purchase recently from Keypoint Computer Sdn. Bhd. during KL PC Fair.

Added on September 8, 2010, 1:10 pmParallel import product is not a big problem, just some company import IT product directly from oversea. You can still getting 1 year warranty as new (PI Product still consider NEW) from keypoint. Customer should understand what u pay what u get, PI product bcos Direct selling from Importor that's why cheaper than Local set as Local Set after import by Sole Distri in Malaysia (Toshiba = Tele Dynamic, Acer = Acer Sdn Bhd, etc) then just pass to Authorized Reseller or sub distri (Servex, Mlink, Ingram, etc) finally we still needed to buy from Dealer(lowyat, computer shop). The only thing u need to worry is PI product is only cover by that particular Self Import company, if this company no longer here service will consider Void. But this suppose to be the reason u should accepted if u wanna buy cheaper Laptop.

Hopes all consumer can understand that computer shop or lowyat not try to not give any discount to u, just nowadays Laptop profit is seriously too low. When u buy any new Laptop especially LOCAL SET mostly can offer to u is few accesories, don ever believe Laptop can discount up to RM100, that's no such thing... that's imposible can get up[ to RM20-RM30 for below RM2000 Laptop and Not possible discount more than RM50 for most of the brand and model for Below RM3000 Laptop.

Next Time shopping on PC Fair pls jus ask for free gift but not discount, even those Lawyat Reseller also not really profit a lot, believe me if u prefer "LOCAL SET".

I agree but unfortunately most people think that there is something in this world called 'cheap and good'!
ugh now I am trying to look for a 'good' Ferrari car but the price must be 'cheap' like Perodua Kancil! brows.gif

Not sure if TS is still looking at this thread.

The number that you have provided in the 1st post is actually my subline for several years and used by my girlfriend. My girl friend got a call this morning from a guy claiming to look for Eric, manager of this Keypoint Computer. She didn't know what to answer.

AFAIK, I'm the owner of this number for almost 4 years and I've never dealt with any computer company. Are you sure that you have posted the correct number?

Omgosh blink.gif.

Anyway, back to topic, Keypoint still around, even second hard laptops also selling in PC Fair nowadays.

So it all comes back to at what price you are willing to pay and the also at what risk you have to take.

Even handphones have parallel import models too. doh.gif

You are wrong. Buy from a well known reputable company. Even manufacturer are supporting them which sometime really offer a good deal.

My friend bought a laptop from this crooked seller. He was not told it was a parallel import. After a few weeks the monitor started having problems. Sending to the company it did not do anything. He learnt later that this Keypoint people were crooks, well known in Penang and in computer circles and sending to another shop showed that Keypoint had changed the screen to a re-cond one, and also changed the processor to a slower one as well. This is how they make their dirty profit.
Certainly better to buy from the original agent as you will get the real warranty and genuine new parts.
Just in time, I was careful to buy my laptop recently from the main importer.
Complaining to the Consumer Affairs is a virtual waste of time. They just another chance to make some "commissions" that all. They never take any action.

buying item just depend on luck... if that item bought without problem, they will said good.. if bought with problem, sure alot complain this and that... do not judge on company reputation.

if you want reputation, direct buy from recommend reseller.

Keypoint selling their products without forcing buyer to buy it...
it arm length transaction, as i buy 15 sets of laptop from this company, so far there is no problem with me and they can provide good quality of service for me...in some occasion they direct exchanged 1 unit to me on the spot..

If future any buyer facing warranty with keypoint, Please free to contact below number

1) ipoh area - 012-5383111 (kelvin)
2) Penang - 012-5115156 (Yvonne) Lady boss of keypoint

Bought a Sylvania 7" tablet from Keypoint with additional keyboard.
The keyboard spacebar doesn't function.
Black lines start to appear on the LCD screen (dead pixels?) and gets longer by the day.
Hope they fix it ASAP without any issues to prove they have improved customer service. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I am suffering too . Keypoint Computers is the worst service center I have seen. I purchased a Sylvania 7 inchl tablet from KLCC fair in Dec 2013 and the tablet screen was coming out . However in few months the display was giving weird colours. I handed over to KL Jalan Imbi Keypoint Center on 27th April i.e within 4 months the tablet was dysfunctioning. Till date I haven't received my tablet. THe customer care people don't bother to give proper update and they take you for a ride in every call. Now its too much and I want to know how can we improve those lazy bumps. I keep on calling every day for my tablet and imagine my phone bills are raising like mercury but their service is as cold as an ICE. They don't bother and I don't think they are customer oriented.

I need someone who can help me to get this sorted.
