I am still pondering abt making Oppo available domestically. Still worry that amateur mistaken it as cap ayam

Don't worry bro, it's not meant for amateurs anyway. Just bring it in, the "professionals" will come looking for you.

Audiophile dedicated brands makes us "professionals" feel special. The general public will never ever hear about these brands, they always see names like Panasonic, Sony, etc.

I just saw S360 in Sg's Comex yesterday - selling for S$399 and the offer was -  get 5 BDs with just S$50.

That would mean : can get the player + 5 BDs with RM1100.  (using a rate of 2.45).

That's how competition plays there - at the same time, Samsung's BD-P1600 was going for S$399, with free S$100 voucher of Gramaphone shops, Philips BD (gosh I can't remember the model)was going for S279 no frill,  LG was a bit off - its BD370 was going for S$450 (salesman stupidly said free gift was a HDMI cable).

was deciding between sony and samsung and eventually I went for samsung as it has 2 USB port (1 for wireless and 1 for external storage).  Tested it with King Kong, Transformers,  the speed was way way faster than PS3.  Tested MKV of phantom - picture was fine but no audio (had no time to analyse why yet), MKV of transformers - perfect, color is more vivid then that of I used HDX1000 and WDTV to play, MKV of the last samurai 720p, perfect, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Remux with DTSHD, perfect.

Overall I am very satisfied with this entry level thing.

oooo the samsung BD-P1600 sounds like a good buy with its usb ports and ability to play mkvs .... the only challenge is the flip down cover at the front, where one of the usb port is located, kinda cumbersome tongue.gif

im also considering one, either this or the sony 360 as i have an older avr; i am hoping that this will solve my dtsHD or dtrueHD issue. but i am unsure, both these two units can decode the dtsHD or dtrueHD, i read, but can it pass them to my old avr via coaxial and be played?

Coaxial can't carry HD audio because of the bandwidth limitation, you'll only get lossy DTS/Dolby Digital if you bitstream, and stereo if you send multi-channel PCM. Check the second post in the BD thread for more info.

If your AVR doesn't have HDMI, your last option is analogue multi-channel connection. This method you'll need to get a BD player with multi-channel analogue ouputs. Don't think the Sony BDP-S360 has that, not sure about the Samsungs though.

Thank you for the explanation, Aiman, much appreciated. Samsung dun have the multi-channel connections as well. Ooooo if like that .. the only practical upgrade path is a hdmi avr then ... ok project shelved .. dun think i want to buy another avr .. tongue.gif

How about the the heavily damped, brass-and-aluminum mechanism, 66 pounds, four spring-loaded legs suspension on its own dedicated table Goldmund Eidos Reference Blue BD player? Will the PQ/AQ be 5% better as we have to pay 500 times the price of BD60? laugh.gif

At $135k it doesn't support DVD-A or SACD, or even BD-Live. laugh.gif

Don't know what pro means in the consumer electronics world. Just that Htkaki refers to amateurs, so the correct counterpart that came to my mind was professionals. tongue.gif

Oppo 83

- SACD
- DVD-A
- bitstream DSD through HDMI
- DVD/CD/BD
- play mkv
- Dedicated VRS video scalling

Dune BD Prime 3.0

- DVD/CD/BD Player
- Media Center
- Play almost all containers except RMBV
- Built in Torent/IP Radio
- eSATA/USB connections

So, depends on your needs, it's 2 diff type of player for diff personal preferences

maybe a middle level of consumers, like advance users or pro-sumers?
