QUOTE(maxizanc @ Sep 12 2009, 09:04 PM) Those who wants to buy Sony BDP-S360 should head to Sony Style outlets now. Due to member special day (today) They're sellin S360 for RM1388 with free 3 BDmovies. Come on, you have 1 hour left They removed the RM500 voucher and deduct it straight from the bdp price? Not bad le >.<. Gotta try match their price >.<

Getting Started

|
I just saw S360 in Sg's Comex yesterday - selling for S$399 and the offer was - get 5 BDs with just S$50.
That would mean : can get the player + 5 BDs with RM1100. (using a rate of 2.45).
That's how competition plays there - at the same time, Samsung's BD-P1600 was going for S$399, with free S$100 voucher of Gramaphone shops, Philips BD (gosh I can't remember the model)was going for S279 no frill, LG was a bit off - its BD370 was going for S$450 (salesman stupidly said free gift was a HDMI cable).
was deciding between sony and samsung and eventually I went for samsung as it has 2 USB port (1 for wireless and 1 for external storage). Tested it with King Kong, Transformers, the speed was way way faster than PS3. Tested MKV of phantom - picture was fine but no audio (had no time to analyse why yet), MKV of transformers - perfect, color is more vivid then that of I used HDX1000 and WDTV to play, MKV of the last samurai 720p, perfect, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Remux with DTSHD, perfect.
Overall I am very satisfied with this entry level thing.

Yes, all their existing BDP will be able to play MKVs via firmware update. http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=3367QUOTE At IFA, Samsung didn't introduce new Blu-ray players, but it announced that player models BD-P1600, BD-P3600 and BD-P4600 will support YouTube and the MKV file format. Existing players will be able to access those features by upgrading the firmware. The company plans to launch BD recorders in 2010, and is holding a wait-and-see stance towards 3-D.

MKV was once considered as underground codec container, only used for HD ripping originally which means piracy (though one can argue about using it to backup your physical discs). No videocam can record and save the video as MKV, so no playback functions also available to mainstream media players, including PS3. But now it looks like MKV is starting to appear, which is good news.
