Hi,

I tink if gonna play 'ahem' discs - might consider one of the local/china oem brands [like Hong Kong Video or sumtin like tat] heard tat its not cinavia protected..
If u wanna a more upmarket brand wif better playback capabilities [ slightly better pic quality ] , u would need to look up a cracked pioneer 450 [very popular, worldwide.. ] unfortunately , tis would cost more..

From what I know, nowadays all the popular branded BD players (Sony, Samsung, LG, Philips, Panasonic, etc) can support ahem DVD and Bluray discs; otherwise they cannot survive here. Support for RMVB is not so common and Philips is one of them that I know. There are many models available under RM500 and at this price range, they are pretty much the same unless you are using high-end equipment. They differ mainly in the GUI and menu settings so best is to set your budget and bring along your media and test for file support and GUI that you like. All will be region locked for ori DVD (except Sony which is region free for models that I came across, not sure if for all models) and ori BD and Cinavia enabled. Ahem discs are usually region-free but cannot escape Cinavia protection since it is embedded in the audio. If you want region free and Cinavia free players for under RM500, you have to get those from China but reliability is uncertain. The local HKV models carry a one year warranty so may be worth a try. If you have more cash to splash, check out Pioneer and Oppo. Just my view.

(Added later.) Yes, you can get a branded BD player for below RM300, look for those on sale from time to time and sometimes in hypermarkets. Just a word of caution if you choose Philips; make sure it supports all the common audio formats as I have come across some models that is lacking in this area.

I am thinking to get this http://www.sony.com.my/product/bdp-s7200

Any current owners can share the review?

I have many MKV in external HD, currently using Samsung CloudSync to play. Since i need a BD player for playing original BD, so might as well ensure it supports MKV.

Looking for a bluray player that plays most video formats, pirated bluray discs and most of all, supports .srt subtitles.

connection is player-hdmi-avr?
avr shud auto detect if the bd disc contain hd audio tracks.
sometimes, if the disc has multiple audio tracks, u need to select the right audio at the disc-menu-audio options.

anyway, like to ask if anyone has tried playing 4k bd on normal bd player, normal avr?
normal tv gives no 4k effect, i suppose?

If u want to play 3d, the player, disk, avr n TV must be all 3d.
3d disc usually have 2d option, u can choose if yr avr n TV r not 3d.

Bro.my player is 3d n tv also is 3d but my avr is not 3d compatible but why i cant get the true hd n master dts sound no matter how i set the avr show multi channel direct but when i use the player without 3d the avr will show master hd n true hd. Question, i suspect the avr is without 3d might be the culprit. I cant get master hd or true hd even i play normal blu ray disc with the 3d player

That should not be the case. You need to check setting on your player. Is it set to pass through ?
