Just make sure your Gfx card has native hdmi for hdcp, 24hz 1920x1080 output support for software and gfx card.

MUST use dual core cpu (minimum), or you'll get video stutter and audio desyn.

Hi sifu and LYN members. I may need some help here. I have a desktop which I play my dvd disc collections and dvdrip/b drip files. I plan to build a home theater with a good av receiver with good dvd upscalling and plan to start collecting bd disc too. I wanted to buy a bluray player. Should I buy a high end one or simple one is enough since I'll be using the avr. I've got 2 high end choice based on my reading in whathifi; the Sony and panasonic bd player . I have tried the panasonic, the usb playback is crappie. No srt files loaded, can't fast forward. Samsung bd player is good with usb playback but based on review, the bluray/dvd picture quality is just so so. Hope can get someone here helping me. Thanks!

Those that bought Samsung BD-D5xxx series bluray player with CINAVIA is in luck.

I just found out that the Cinavia protection can be beaten by upgrading to an older firmware 1015, thru network update.

Search SammyGo and Bd-D5300 Cinavia...the forum will show you. I just fixed mine...finally...

Once BDA upgrades their AACS revision in new blu-ray release, older players has no choice but to update frmware if they want to play original disc with new version of AACS.

Or keep the old ones for bdr playback. New ones for ori bdrom playback.

Try Philips. Basic model around RM300. Plays BD, DVD and VCD (some BD players can't play VCDs). For a model with Karaoke function, add a few tens of RM more. Has USB 2.0 for playback of MKV, AVI files etc via flash drive or external hard drive.

Prices are higher if you want models with added features such as 3D, built-in WiFi, Skype, web browsing etc.

Go to Philips Malaysia website to have a look at them.

Hope this helps.

As I mentioned above, try Philips.

Also, check out LG, plays RMVB files. But DVD player is region locked. If that's not a concern and if 3D and built-in Wi-Fi is not a requirement, you can have one around RM300.

Thanks for your info. What do u mean by 3d? Isn't a player plays whatever inside the bluray disc only? Or 3d means converting 2d to 3d ?

Commercially sold Blu-ray discs (BD) come in either 2D or 3D or 3D+2D on one disc (3D/2D compatible) and some combo sets have both 2D and 3D discs included. To play 3D BD, you'd have to get a Blu-ray player capable of playing 3D and a 3D TV for the display (and the glasses).

3D TVs generally are able to "convert" an image into 3D-like even if the source is 2D, however the effects is apparently not as impressive as playing a Blu-ray disc with the 3D picture on a 3D player and displayed on a 3D TV.

A basic Blu-ray player is usually a 2D blu-ray player, with a lower price tag of around RM300 or below. For the 3D feature, the price of the player would be slightly higher naturally. The 3D player is backwards compatible thus it plays both 2D and 3D discs.

The above applies to the playback of commercially bought Blu-ray discs. I guess that is one of the main reasons one buys a Blu-ray player. However, for video files, depending on the type of file you have and if they are in 3D, you may still be able to see it in 3D even without the 3D player, if you have a 3D TV.

Thanks for the detail explanation about blueray player. Guess i might want to hunt a sound bar instead of a blue ray player at the moment. Apparently the tv i got can play rmvb file. smile.gif

From viewing the last few pages, seems there is the usual issues of updating firmwares to watch new movies and playing ahem discs.

Was wondering which is most reasonable BD player in local market ... or is PS3 still best value?

Any shootout /reviews for BD players?

I'd prefer Sony as Sony is the main boss in BD industry. Least BD compatibility issue.

I don't think is compatibility issue, I think is ahem issue. Original BD discs should not have any issue in playing in any brand of Blu-ray players. Only problem is ahem disc that I believe have problem on build quality.
