how to stop them for make out o? seperate the father in other cage? i d got 3 cage, 3 family..if i put the dad other cage, fight d...
*
>< you really going to shorten the female life span, the best way is to seperate the male hamster , and dont put the male hamster together with other male directly, chances of fighting is high, the best way is to put in a seperate cage or big comfy box( if you not planning to buy a cage) , or put a wire mash before u intro the male hamster to the other cage, so that they can get familiar with each other scent before mix together, as hamster is more depends on their scent, as they cant see well with their eyes,

for female let her tend to the 1st batch of baby, and as well let her recover from the deliver too. hope this help in future. well is best to prepare everything before u plan to breed your hamster, and you are going to take care of the baby too. cause market wise for hamster ,the pet shop have their own local supply d.

cheers and hope the male hamster recover from fighting, is not a good sign hamster face cover with some scare as this is the sign showing the hamster is weak when want to mate with the female, course of nature. rclxub.gif

Hie guys, I just got a new female short haired syrian. I have abit of a problem. The pet shop i bought her from only uses water bowls to let their hamsters drink out of. I'm trying to get my syrian to drink from a water bottle as its more hygienic.

I've been trying to coax her to drink by squeezing a drop of water so she knows that she can get water there, problem is after she licks it off she stops. I've put a small bowl of water as backup in case, but she doesn't seem to be drinking much either.

Its my first time rearing a syrian (I've had a few dwarfs before) so is a syrian drinking this little normal?

Thanks!
*
it seem the pet shop doesn't take good care for their hamster for putting a bowl of water for hamster drinking needs, as open water bowl will lead to hamster getting wet and infection may occur too.

for your case, dont worry much for syrian to drink less water, as hamster dont drink much too to be honest .just show her the water can be drink from the bottle, and she will get the idea d. as long when she feel thirsty she will go towards the bottle and try to get the water out, once she figure it out d, is a smooth journey for ur hammy to get their drinks. ^^

if a hamster drink too much of water, i think u need to change their bedding quite frequently as more urine will be expected. >< thumbup.gif

similar problem with my syrian . she don't drink much and i hardly change water unlike my previous dwarf water would be finish before a week time
*
hi bro, just want to know where you place your Syrian hamster? is he active during the night? if you Syrian put at a cool environment and not heaty place, and very active at night then shouldnt worry much.

if the hamsters didnt drink much and breath heavily , maybe is time to check for some symptoms d. such as like the place you put the cage is too heaty , or the hamster keep having a long breath, and look un energize, maybe is wet tail symptons or change of environment.

if you find it not drinking much water maybe the place is cool n chilling, as they dont sweat much. or provide lettuce to him, as lettuce is high in water content or some cucumber too. cheers hope this help to ease your concern. thumbup.gif

hi, i had 3 robo. they were all active and fine for the past one and a half month. when i just came back, one of my robo died. :'( it just liek there frozen, not moving at all. what could be the cause? they have sufficient food and water. i change bedding for them weekly as well.

now my 2nd robo is acting all funny. when it walks, it walks a bit funny. the other is still super active. any guide on how to make sure they are healthy?

i am very sad sad.gif
*
sorry to hear the sad story, did they show any sign of pain or sickness like wet tail? robo hardly fall sick n die like that. and somemore you say frozen over there like die instantly, is ur robo environment too hot? i mean heaty without any good ventilation. Through your story seem like heat stroke. cry.gif

as i check on them everyday, they did not show any kind of sign. cos i take them out daily just to run around a lil. no wet tail. i usually put them in shaded places before i leave for work, far from sunlight. but yesterday weather was hot. could dat be the caused?i leave my room fan on all the time, but i do close my window.
*
maybe, cause so far i see all the info about robo sudden death, is either get wet tail, due to over stress heat condition "heat stroke" , or virus /disease infection. Cause i not sure where u bring ur robo to run around a little, is it in the room or living room or out field rclxub.gif and some more your robo is not die of old age, as just a few month.

anyway to prevent this with the other left?
*
Morning~~icic, ya mostly i also doing the same thing let him run over the room, but ill put tower cloth to prevent the ball hit the wall, as it will cause impact n noise that will disturb the robo inside it. Best is smth to cover or reduce the impact on solid matter. So bro th other left, wht else you want to prevent it? hope can list in detail so i can help u out to search any info related to the situation, trying my best to help up ^^ cheers. thumbup.gif

can i bath my bibo? syrian hamster....its quite smelly...i luv to hold hiM
*
Morning fendy 87 , regarding bathing hamster is really really not advisable , you can purchase the bath sand in pet shop + bath toilet too, whereas all hamster also know hw to clean up neatly, no need for us to worry about their hygiene . AS they do a much better job compare to us bathing them. The best way to prevent your hamster smelly is to make sure the environment is CLEAN and water have to be change latest by 3 to 4 days. To prevent bacteria from growing in the water bottle. Since you love to hold him, pet shack got sell 1 item to reduce the smell of hamster, and is friendly towards hamster too, you might consider that. Cheers

morning JXplod, thanks for your info. Well just to let u know what is happening now. I have two Robo left, the other is still active and lively as usual, but the other is showing signs like wet tail. last night both of its hind legs are not moving, sort of like paralysis and it seems pretty weak. it just lie there sleeping and seems like breathing heavily.

I am thinking to bring it to the clinic later. wat do you thk could be the cause?
*
hi sillysu, nice to hear from u again. seeing your robo go through this phase is definitely is heart saddening. but with both hind legs paralysis , and without moving, either your robo fight during the night and damage his spinal cord or smth else, if confirm both the hind legs cant move mostly is spinal cord suffer some damage. Well sillysu going to vet you must need to be mentally prepare as vet fees sometime will cost a boom, but it depends on each situation. Well sometime for our love 1, how much is cost wont affect us much as this is our responsible, like caring for our siblings or parents too.

so far i found this article , see whether it can help u out? http://roborovskihamsters.webs.com/apps/fo...legs-?page=last

Yup, is good for small hamster. If syrian maybe limited space. Good to hear your robo loves it.

Will share the picture once I bought the hamster. Still looking.

haha sure no problem, ya due to the small tunnel n limited space, robo should do find in the ovo pad. really cute seeing them running here n there through ovo, is really different compare to mini habitral cage. lol thumbup.gif

Added on November 23, 2010, 9:58 amoh ya sillysu, you can called up some vet clinic, to check with them and see. let's the expert vet doc to examine the situation and check on the price also , like estimation how much.

hmm sillysu, th best option now is seek vet advise on this matter, as i also cant diagnose whether treatment can help your robo recover.

if the whole body really paralyze , i think the last option that not every1 want is put him to sleep. cause you know robo is active hamster, that love to run here n there. if this cause him from daily active , is like seeing him torture day by day. Hope you understand. ya sillysu.

still bring to vet is th best for now.

JXplod, thanks for the support. reli appreciate it. well i hv not reli bought it. a fren gave me a few litres, and i mean just a few, to help. dunno of the brand thou.

any specific brand of type i should get? is dettol advisable, in minimal amount to disinfect it with?

also, besides kuaci, what else is should i feed them to ensure they hv sufficient nutrient? wat about the water? i use normal drinking water, not shared from my mouth, but fresh from the bottle. is dat ok?
*
Welcome sillysu, oh got friends give you some hamster pup a. hamster is very easy to determine their breed. =D to disinfect the hamster cage, detol can be use or any other alcohol that disinfect like ethanol. then rise with clean water or can add some soap to clean it and rise with clean water.

the best food is either spend abit on vitakraft. can see the 1st page of the hamster tread.

for water is best to change once or 2 days, max is 4 days this is to prevent the water stay stagnant and bacteria grow inside it. thumbup.gif
