taming hamsters needs a lot or patience and courage. but in the end all the effort you put will be worthwhile. you must make sure you spend time with them everyday in order for them to be tame. as for a beginner i would suggest syrian.

getting another hamster will lead you to having more hamsters to take care of. besides that, getiing one of a same gender is ok, BUT there are HIGH chances of them fighting because they're are not from same litter.
your hammie will not feel lonely if you play with it every day smile.gif

guyysss!!!!!!! i feel so annoyed and sad! and angry as well! today i visited petswonderland at midvally(i never liked to go there because of the things they sell. and i hate going there because the name hamsters wrongly! there's no such as panda or teddy bear hamsters. shopkeepers give these names just to make more money and i do get so annoyed because of this. but this is not what i wanted to say.)

and so i went to the rodents section. and to my horror i saw this little white baby mouse(mice) got it's head stuck to the cage door(like tersepit ready). it could have happened when the maintainer was closing the cage door and didnt notice this little fella. and poor little fella got his head stuck and died. surprisingly no one noticed. i did take the courage to complain to one of the maintainance worker.
i wonder how some people can be sooooooo ignorant at times. because of someone's careless-ness a little mice died. it is so sad to think that such reputable petshops do have ignorant and careless workers!

this question goes to all breeders. i was just wondering if you guys have had runts(baby hammys which are smaller than the normal ones) in your litters. and even when they grow up they won't grow any bigger than the size of your pinky finger. if yes, how often are runts produced?
is it very rare or quite often?

DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK IF YOU'RE WEAK-HEARTED!

I wanted to share this with all of you guys. it is so sad to think that such things happen just to satisfy human cravings. hopefully all of us here will try our best to spread the message not to abuse and kill animals. wathing this video has made me wonder if i should be vegetarian all my life(i am half-vegetarian since before tho). this video made me cry. it's a shame for human being for being able to do such cruel things.
mods.feel free to remove this video if it is wrong. but i'm doing this for the sake of educating.

I did not ignore what u guys said ! i had bought 4 cages and its isnt enough for 8 syrian hamster! well i had 2 female that lived well together but other just cant live together ! they reason i put the male into another male cage is becuz i need tat cage for my pregnent hamster ! how would i suppose to know what is tat green round thing around my male syrian , but now i know its a wound which has entered bacteria in it , i hav bath it and the wound has gone clearer and better today , but u said i ignored advices from u guys And there is no Hamster Vet in Negeri Sembilan, how am i suppose to do ?

And then you guys started scolding ppl ! ignorance is bliss ? and Fxxk you dude? I know u guys are experienced with pets but u guys cant scold ppl for no reason . and i thought this web is for sharing experiences between one another , but i found out tat u guys like to school ppl without knowledge of the victim's background . thanks guys i appreciate tat
*
4 cages for 8 hams? how big each cage is? bathing it is just not enough. how well do you knw that the infection is 100% gone? and we're not scolding for NO REASON. we've pointed out earlier saying that they WILL fight but you just couldn't care less. so when you did not listen and they fought what you expect us to do?

Hey lawrence! I really agree with you.
Certain ppl think that they know alot, and ..... just like what happened to you,
Kena scold/

Sharing here is like finding someone to bomb u if u made mistake,
No offense, But that is how and what I used to think
*
it is not that they know a lot or less. it's that they're experienced and that is why they're here to advice ppl like you guys. unfortunately some never listened.

in my opinion syrians are the better choice for beginners as they're less agile/active compared to dwarfs. they're tho lazier ones too. hehe!
have you done a research on what type of cage, wheel, food and etc? if you haven't i suggest you to do so. good luck choosing!

myrtle, lol! yeah. i overlooked it. i'm sorry. change the position of the wheel that might help. or you can take beddings that are soaked with pee and put it at the corner of the cage. and he'll knw that he's supposed to pee there.

i'm buying habitrail ovo suite and habitrail ovo training wheel for my new hammie.. is it enough or i miss something??  thanks
*
ovo is wayyyy to small. the wheel is very small also. i suggest you get a Wodent Wheel which costs RM78.80 or Comfort Wheel which costs RM35.
minimum cage size for a syrian is 2ft. the bigger is always better.

hi all,

was wondering if anyone can gimme an answer?
i brought my ww hammie (Mr Indy) to the vet and was told dat he might have got mite infection so she sprayed him with some medication stuff.
when he got home, it seems like he can't hear me when i call to him and din drink much water.
is it normal?
and after a few days it seems dat he can hear me.
but like a bit blur blur.

and now i got him a new cage but he seems like a bit blur... dunno how to climb up the tube and stuff...and dunno how to find the food area..
is it due to old age?
the cage is Habitrail Ovo for Drawf Hamster...
i'm worried about him...
pls advice  icon_question.gif
*
maybe he's not used to his new environment. he needs some time. btw, since you're using ovo you need to change the water bottle because the ovo bottle is very bad for them as they have to lay on their back to drink. how old is he?

it could be that he's bored. spend more time with him. add more tubes and toys in his cage. bury those tubes under the bedding so that he'll dig them out. in this way he'll be busy. take him out often and give him chance to run around SUPERVISED!. from the pic i can't ecaxtly say how old is he. perhaps any seniors here could help. Habitrail safari is a good cage for one hamster. but adding more toys can make the cage congested. so plan wisely too.
