ar188 has answered. Let me be clear abt this "cheat" thing. The improvement is perceived improvements in black levels, however, there is no actual improvement in black levels. CRT is also fixed panel.

Ok either I got my stuff mixed up or something got blurred along the lines. Anyway, bias lighting behind the display will work for plasma, LCD, CRT, OLED. Bias lighting is not necessary for projectors (in my term non fixed panel). Projector is meant to be viewed in the dark as they put out very low light levels.

i admit i was leaning to the panny 50" model until i read this tread. interestingly, since i'm staying near cheras, i called up my local shop (situated in cheras furniture city) but got a quote for a shocking rm7,300 ohmy.gif

i haven't view this unit yet but would definitely shortlist this as well.

This shop even can deliver the same day if I wanted too but I prefer to get the set during this weekend when I move in my house.

And the final price I nego for this set is at RM5550 but without extended warranty (1 year panel, 2 years parts).

The shop fella told me don't worry on the warranty as this set can easily last for many years to come as Samsung reliability is on par with any other Japs brand based on the faulty return unit although I'm still a bit leary to decide whether to extend the warranty or not.

Anyway, can't wait for my set to arrive this weekend rclxms.gif

And those who left me a pm, u got the reply and hope we can form a new B650 owners thumbup.gif

For samsung brand , i think its a good good idea to go for extended warranty. Even my local samsung repair centre warn me that samsung got many problems and i can see from the many sammy lcd lying around waiting for repairs too!

its always advisable to go for extended warranties irregardless of the brand .

probably samsung sold more units of their TV than others and thats why there're more of them lying at the repair shops

RM5550 for B650 is a good price...
anyway i just check that even the shop next to citibank puchong can give the same price which is b550 =rm4500 , b650 rm5500.
for me in still considering , took my wife to Harvey norman and my wife say 50" might be a bit small after she saw the 55" LCD 200 hz.
reason is are house is 22 x 75 , distance between tv n sofa is 22. wat do you guys think? any opinion?

At 22feet u might need a projector projecting at 120in screen to enjoy the benefits of 1080p! But yes, 50in is definately too small. If u are planning to get a flat panel, look at the 60in or 65in.

for 22'x75' ,minus the walking pathway and stairway , viewing distant should be 12' . 50'' to 55 '' is most ideal

chewkl , how's your research on B550?

wow..22ft fm the tv..I guess you need at least 60" and above.
my viewing distance is around 12' thus 50" is just nice I guess.
perhaps putting your sofa in between of 22' will save your wallet.
