I am quite confused with the statements that S10 is grey when showing black. I have calibrated a S10 and can confirm that the black is indeed black.

In that case I don't see any strong reasons to get the B650 instead of the S10 then. What's your view on this Bro Anfieldude?

@ronaldjoe

How grey is the S10 though in the day? will it cause severe unenjoyment? I have bright lighting so again leaning toward the Samsung though more expensive.

Also,I heard that the S10 pictures is soft in HD, and B650 in sharper for a Plasma.

Can you confirm this?

S10 is 'grey' due to its reflective glass. At night when light is off, it's 'black'.
S10 is soft, I would say it's more natural. You are right. B650 has 'deeper' colour compare to S10.

Bro Ronald, any updates on the image retention on the B650? How many hours in use already for your B650?

TQ.

So far no IR problem as I was cautious during early panel hours.
Btw I dunno how to check panel hours in service menu yet doh.gif (I am able to go into service tho)
My rough guess it's approx 50 hours now.

The one reason would be better colour accuracy of the Sammy plasmas due to the CMS.

ronaldjoe,

The correct way is to have 2 sets of adjustments. During the day, since the ambient light is higher, the gamma of the set needs to be adjusted to be lower. That way you will get better shadow details and picture quality.

During a night in a dimly lit environment, u shd have a different set of adjustments with lower gamma for better blacks and shadow details.

That is why ISF has always recommended 2 sets of settings, ISFday and ISFnight.

Same applies to LCDs as well.

The workaround is to have something in between. But it is not optimal.

@ ronaldjoe

But even then you mentioned that B650 goes blacker at night than S10, is this correct?

@ anfieldude

I thought you cant adjust gamma for the S10?

Can not say B650 is blacker, the colour is deeper.
In dimly lit room, B650 is blacker as S10 is still bit reflective and glass turn grey when there is a lot ambient light.

I was not talking abt S10 in particular, I was explaining the differences between night time and day time viewing.

There are other ways to compensate gamma indirectly. The S10 has limited controls.

The B650 has gamma controls.

I am sorry as I said earlier, I have not viewed or calibrated a B650 to make the comparison.

No. But I believe neither does the Sammy. Unless u calibrate it thru 2 different modes (ie movie, user). The problem is that the gamma curves are different in each one so it is not a good way. The sets that I know allow for the separate user presets are Pioneer and higher end LG that has the expert mode.

to my humble opinion since both is quite close in price range, I will opt for B650 over S10 in terms of features. S10 for me is just a traditional plasma tv's.

then it seems that the S10 only wins on price. Since B650:
-is blacker ind dimly lit room
-has less reflective screen
-has sharper picture
-has deeper/better colors
-better in daylight viewing
-more controls (ie gamma)

umm did I miss anything? any area where S10 is better?

Better GUI, crystal design, DNLA (wireless connectivity), better colour accuracy
Cons: potential IR issue and no digital optical out.

You know what my Plasma dealer told me when I ask price for Samsung's Plasma? He said "better don't considered Samsung cause so far already three previous buyers claim warranty for Samsung whereas Panasonic is none."

When ask about Samsung LCD TV, he said last time one wealthy Datin come to purchase 52 inch FullHD LCD TV, the thier took more than 30 mins to tried to make that LCD working but failed and end up that Datin decided to purchase 52 inch Sharp FullHD LCD TV. And later that dealer brought another 52 inch FullHD LCD TV from Samsung and end up same story as last time. So, so far, that dealer send at least 2 unit 52 inch LCD for repair. I over heard that discussion seem like panel problem.

LOL... Datin should buy Pioneer instead brows.gif
I sent my S10 for warranty claim too after 3 days of purchase.
Have to agree that Panasonic is better in terms of reliability.
Best to reflect this is to check at B650 in AVS forum.
