I actually tip Chelsea to be the slight favourites this year IMO although I'm quietly optimistic and confident about our own chances. Despite all the rumours and drama that happened during the summer Chelsea has managed to keep their squad together whereas ourselves, Liverpool and Man Utd have lost a few stalwarts with the jury still out on the replacements.

QUOTE(kimhoong @ Aug 11 2009, 01:44 PM) Agree with the bold statement. Not only AW have to prove that his policy is still relevant; but also with the frustrations piling up and the stiffer competition from recently-got-rich clubs and other promising clubs. For the type of football we'll play, I really have no idea During our invincible "era", we played lighting fast counter attack with accurate long/through pass and a lot of "forward" movement.Recently, with Fabregas being our focal point, we have been playing possessive multi-short-passes. Now, with players come-and-gone, injuries, (possible) different formation, I really have no idea about it... but guess what, that's make our team more interesting to watch During our invincibles era teams don't park the bus and pack the midfield as much as they do against us now. Teams now tend to defend deeper as well. Football now is different than before. The English game has evolved and so has our game to adapt to it so I feel its pointless to even compare the type of football we play during the invincibles era and now. Given our crap record against Bolton during our Invincibles era I wouldn't even be surprised if they struggled in todays game even more than our current team with virtually every single small team adopting the Allardyce Bolton approach against us now. QUOTE(giotto @ Aug 11 2009, 11:37 PM) Yes, just as i was to reply the same thing too. Our gameplay definitely evolved since the heydays of Henry, Pires, Vieira, Ljungberg and etc. Back then we're known to play quick counter attacking game. Fact of the matter is, as much as we love to see them play so flamboyantly, it has hurt us very much too. We suffered like mad during UCL games when european teams would sit back, absorb the pressure and while we're at it, they would sneak a goal or two from counter attacking. Much like a taste of our own medicine. Back then we were all about speed without much tactical or what you call Plan B when it matters. And quite rightly pointed out, teams started to pack their midfield, hustle us and employ the rough house tactic and we panicked and even got bullied. Right now, we play a much more structured gameplay, we're abit more technical in the middle of the of the pitch and we pass the ball around alot more. We've not quite found the right balance in winning trophies but i'd like to think we're at a transition period till we settle down with the right set of players and start winning like before. Spot on. However, I can't help but feel as well though that after the "Invincibles" era Wenger shifted his priority to the Champions League and set out instead to build a squad tailor-made for the Champions League hence the slowly but surely phasing out of the "Invincibles" squad. And I truly feel we could have and probably should have won it in any 1 year of the last 3 years but for pure bad luck. Bad luck because as great a manager Arsene is he couldn't have foreseen the English dominance in European football all of a sudden for the past 3 years. This is also one of the reasons IMO why we seem to be able to do so well in the ECL, beating any top team thrown at us from any other European country but as soon as we meet the Liverpools, Chelseas or Manchester Uniteds we get beat.

Seems fun huh this prediction thingie. I guess I'll just join in the fun too
Premier League top four: Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool. Premier League relegation: Wolves, Hull City, Portsmouth (I actually fancy Burnley to do quite well lol) FA Cup: Arsenal Carling Cup: Chelsea Europa League: AS Roma Champions League: Barcelona Player of the Year: Arshavin (Slight bias here of course lol)

QUOTE(kaka91 @ Aug 13 2009, 02:23 PM) lol, nah i think its probably coz a year has 52 weeks, maybe thats the significance. or he just wants to reverse ade's number Lets see 26 x 2 = 52...Maybe he takes a number double that of his previous number because he wants to double his goal tally this year ? He scored 15 goals last season so he is looking to score 30 this time around ?

QUOTE(kaka91 @ Aug 13 2009, 03:43 PM) i think dudu will be our top scorer this season, for some reason. and i hope arsene starts him instead of nicky against everton. i like nicky, i really do, but i like dudu more, and he's a better finisher Bendtner will start alongside RVP IMO. I fancy a taller and more physical Arsenal team tomorrow well with the exceptions of Arshavin and Cesc of course. We will need as much aerial ability we can get against a team like Everton.

Bendtner injured ? All I can say is its one man less with some decent aerial ability against Everton. Hopefully we don't concede many corners and needless freekicks. As much as I like Dudu I feel Bendtner will be more suited in an aerial dogfight against the likes of Jo, Fellaini, Cahill, Lescott and Jagielka both in attack and defence. I'm confident we could win against Everton however I am terribly worried about the threat they pose aerially.

Just saw Arsene's interview article on Arse.com. We will be without 6 players for the Everton match WTF. I didn't know we had that many out FFS.
Fabianski, Djourou, Walcott, Rosicky, Diaby, Nasri all out.
Fabianski out for 2 months apparently, Djourou is out for a month, Rosicky 2 weeks, Nasri another 6 to 7 weeks before he even resumes training. Diaby doubtful and could be back but no timeline mentioned by Arsene on Walcott's injury. Vermaelen though is back. No mention on Bendtner so I guess he is fine.

Rafael Van der Vaart for free. Worth a punt ? With Nasri, Rosicky and Walcott all out for quite some time all of a sudden our right side of midfield looks so shallow. Only Wilshere and Eboue left for that right midfield slot there unless you stick Bendtner in there too or Arshavin right, Vela left. Seems Van der Vaart is available for free due to Real not honoring their contract or something. Read it last night somewhere but not free to find back the link right now.

Wilshere not in the squad tonight confirmed by Arsene. So this answers the "Is Wilshere playing ?". "Is Jack on the bench ?", "Where is Wilshere ?" "Insert question about Wilshere's whereabouts" questions prior to kickoff tonight. QUOTE Wenger - Why Wilshere won’t play at Everton
By Chris Harris Arsène Wenger has explained why he has omitted Jack Wilshere from his first squad of the season. The 17-year-old midfielder became Arsenal’s youngest Premier League player last September and made a big splash in pre-season when he was named man-of-the-match in both Emirates Cup games. Wilshere scored twice against Rangers in the 3-0 win which clinched that trophy and was rewarded with his first call-up to the England Under-21 squad. However he will play no part at Goodison Park on Saturday. At his pre-match press conference, Wenger insisted that Wilshere is still very much in his plans. “Tomorrow no because he is not in the squad but during the season, yes [he will be involved],” said the manager. “On one side people say ‘you are too young, you do not have enough experience’. On the other people say ‘why do you not play people who are 17 and win the league?’ “We are already very young and Jack Wilshere will play a part in our season, but not the whole season. He is 17 years old.” Arse.comThis post has been edited by sigheart: Aug 15 2009, 02:27 PM

"Speculating" in the first sentence tells the whole story.

Song has been excellent. I don't remember him ever putting a foot even more so a pass wrong so far. However f*ck the African Nations Cup. If Song keeps this going he will be god damn important for us especially towards the end of the season and I'll hate to lose him to some 2nd rate tournament.

QUOTE(skod @ Aug 16 2009, 01:28 AM) 3 is not secured. we always got 4 past us last season..so bring on dudu!! You don't fix something that doesn't need fixing. Dudu will feature IMO but more so around the 65th or 70th minute mark onwards.

QUOTE(Zan81 @ Aug 16 2009, 01:31 AM) Jeez if you guys were managers, you really know how to knock the confidence out of your players. We're 3 goals up, RVP and AA are having stinkers and you want to sub them? Let them play out until at least the 70th minute la. A goal may just do wonders for their confidence. Sheesh. Well thats modern football for you. Fans nowadays expect players to perform every second, every minute of every game every week. The players are after all robots This post has been edited by sigheart: Aug 16 2009, 01:35 AM

QUOTE(giotto @ Aug 16 2009, 02:49 AM) 6-1 to the Arsenal. A good way to start the season tho i was rather surprised of the scoreline. We did alright to win the game but i think its more of Everton playing like crap. Defensively they were quite shite and could have done more to curb at least 3 goals. But i'm not complaining. Vermaelen looks pretty decent in the air. He times his jump well and has won many headers today. I think he needs to improve more on his defensive play with Gallas and we'd be looking alright at the back. I think its a combination of both Everton playing crap and us making Everton look like crap. From the get go you already can notice our players closing the Everton players down and really hussling and hurrying them. Everton are known as a get-in-your-face team but I think it was us who got into their faces more than they would have liked instead. We did that for most part of the game and its understandable that there is no way this high tempo of a game could me maintained for all 90 mins hence Everton looked threatening in patches. I personally think the tactics deployed by Arsene today was absolutely spot on and I suspect today's tactics will be our recipe for success this season. Instead of just one player protecting the defense today it was 2, Denilson and Song which allowed Fabregas the freedom to move into a more advanced position supporting the triangle of Van P, Bendtner and Arshavin. I think Moyes was absolutely caught off guard tactically IMO. This post has been edited by sigheart: Aug 16 2009, 03:00 AM
