Why am i not surprised. Jens Lehmann in hot soup again for elbowing someone.

If i remember correctly, he's the only one GK with 8 yellow cards in a season with Arsenal a couple of years back. I've lost count the number of times he's gotten into such sticky situation. The last i read in a league game with Stuttgart, he threw an opponents boots to the roof of the net, claiming he was clearing obstacles from the pitch. And now, after elbowing someone, he claims he's merely keeping a distance from the player. He's so funny.

But he's still got a special place in the Gooners heart. I think all of us will never forget the save the put Arsenal in the UCL final.

Hahaha You just don't mess with Mad Jens. Although it was not hard letting him go, to me he's still a special someone who played with Arsenal.
(The boot on the goal roof incident shows that if you give him the chance to f**k with you, he will f**k with you. Cool one Jens rclxms.gif )

im agree wit u on this one. The reason we're trashed by united at home @ semis of UCL last season is becoz of this. We look like to score earlier in the match wit early presure from cesc and rvp
until that counter attack from m.u and horrible mistake by gibbs which left us rattled throughout the match. Hope that wont happen to us again thought cool2.gif

Yup. No disrespect to Gibbs, he's got the skills but he's got to improve on his balance and strength to succeed in the EPL. Hey, I'm not really singling him out for yesterdays match. It's just a thought.

Sigh I do miss him. Was a top top goalkeeper for us. He had everything. Not only a great reader of the game but a brilliant shot stopper to boot. Just love the way he rushes out and sweeps up through balls beyond our back four with great timing and precision. He does have a few forgettable blunders but then again who doesn't. The memory of David Seaman was gone when he stepped in between the sticks. I will never forget those saves he made. The one from Solskjaer, Scholes from point blank range, that impossible double save from Raul, Riquelme's penalty save, the 2005 FA Cup Final saves etc etc. God the list goes on and on. One of the best goalkeepers to ever wear an Arsenal jersey and play in the BPL.

Sadly Almunia is a universe away from Lehmann's best. I very well hope Almunia proves me wrong but as of currently I am still not convinced he is Arsenal quality let alone world class.

I never really realised that Mad Jens was such a great goalie until all his best performance was recapped! Thanks Jens!

6. Denilson - Typical Denilson. Did everything neat and simple and anonymous. Eye-catching and sparkling ain't his thing, but consistency is.

8. Diaby - Proved others wrong with two well taken goals and lots of Hlebesque footwork. The best piece of skill would be the nutmeg followed by a pirouette, although that didn't result in anything tongue.gif Yet despite his good performance there are two things that comes to mind - he still takes one touch too many and slows down the midfield; and his failure to mark his man for Pompey's goal. Overall it's still good to see Diaby again. Keep fit, Abou !!

i disagree with point 6 and agree with point 8.

for point 6, although stats may show that he's been doing the same old thing, i feel that his play this season in a 4-3-3 formation is more incisive and the passes more penetrating. last season, he was still making the same number of passes, but they didn't really provide the bite that we needed. i suppose that's why the denilson skeptics always say that his passes are just sideways. in the game against pompey, he was less outstanding, but that's probably he had to do a lot more defensive work to do since song wasn't playing and diaby is very attacking minded. but still, the passes were simple, and he wasn't trying too hard.

as for point 8, i really have to agree about the one touch too many that slows down the midfield, and also the fact that his defensive workrate just ain't good enough... that's why although i would readily agree that diaby is capable of great goals (like the 2 he scored against pompey), i still remain a diaby skeptic.

as for the goal, i blame almunia mostly for the goal. in football, the player must move forward to receive the pass. otherwise, an opposing player may be able to take the ball of your feel before it reaches you. similarly for goalies, they must go forward to collect the ball in the air. in this case, almunia had a clear view of the flight of the ball. however, i think he took it for granted that he was alone, not expecting ex spurs reject kaboul go pop up in front of him. so i think it was just a lack of focus / concentration. and this is what pundits always talk about for a top team goalie. they will not have much to do in a game at times, but they never lose focus and concentration so that when they are called upon, they are able to deliver. almunia is a good goalie, but goals like these will make or break our season when playing against top teams. hopefully this is just a blip.

anyways, all responses are constructive in nature, so i hope it will be taken in that manner... =)

Diaby will most likely be replacing Cesc if Cesc is out. With the way Arsene was praising Diaby about how similar he is to Vieira and how this could be his year post match Pompey I'm guessing he is almost a dead cert to start the Man Utd game. In fact I think Diaby will start even if Cesc is fit. Wenger has always been known to field lineups with the intention of controlling the midfield in difficult and probably physical away games such as Man Utd at Old Trafford.

Probable lineups IMO.

With Cesc:

-----------------Van Persie-------------------

Diaby---------------------------------Arshavin

-----------Denilson-------Fabregas-----------

--------------------Song------------------------

Clichy----Vermaelen----Gallas--------Sagna

-------------------Almunia----------------------

Without Cesc:

-----------------Van Persie-------------------

Arshavin------------------------------Bendtner

------------Diaby-------Denilson-------------

--------------------Song------------------------

Clichy----Vermaelen----Gallas--------Sagna

-------------------Almunia----------------------
