So as an oversimplification, divide the AMD GPU's shaders by 5 when comparing with an Nvidia GPU to get a rough estimation to which is equal to which.Hardware GPU discussion

hi, i would like to know more about laptop graphic, basically how do we tell which one is better than the other? because i am not really good in technical field, i would like to know if we can say nvidia GTX is better than GT, and higher number like a GTX 560 is better than a GTX 485, and these 2 are better than a GT 555?
i would also like to know if GDDR5 is better than DDR3? and 2 GB memory is better than a 1 GB memory? i read about the comparison table in the previous post, if i am anticipating online gaming or some pc game, with a certain graphic need, for example like diablo 3 in the future? which one can last for a longer use in the future? i would like to buy a laptop with a good graphic card since laptop not easy to upgrade in future, if they actually can... sorry i am not familiar with graphic card specification, i'm a noob enduser >.< |

Higher number is better, but that only within the same series, you can't diretly compare GTX560 with GTX485, only can compare with other GT500 series.
GTX485M > GTX560M >>> GT555M.. GDDR5 is better. 2GB doesn't means it better, 1.5GB can be better, depends the GPU. This post has been edited by lee_what2004: Jun 10 2011, 10:38 AM |

Yes, GTX485M at the top, though if you want the similar performance with less cost, consider AMD HD6970M..

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4223/eurocom...d-6970m-rocks/5 From the price point, you need to add around $250+ to upgrade from HD6970M to GTX485M.. |

GTX560M still can't compare with the GTX485M yet. It's more like an in between for the GTX470 and GTX460M.

Catalyst 11.6 WHQL is out. Many user experience performance increased in The Witcher 2. If you have mouse lag issue, it's probably fixed in this driver.
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=346152 Will benchmark this against my current 11.5b later. Will this consider out of topic? |
