i dont think all people have time to read all 66 pages just to find a solution to the prob. maybe what najmpd can do is put it on the first page.

i was only here starting from page 60 like that. dun bother to read all previous 59 pages.
*
Yeah right, even if I put the Q&A at the first page people still asking the same old questions. Some of the question is already on the first page

Plus I can't stop the stupid spamming too, like in the first page there is usually some idiot say 'First!', or 'Congratulations!', its unnecessary and just a waste of posts

could u suggest the program that we can use?
because i pretty sure the other user ASUS K40 also would like to know how to do it
i already checked like he said but i found nothing at his previous posts relating about fan modding or etc..
thats why i said like that.
hopefully u can help us here
smile.gif

Well, regarding hardware monitor and fan control, I been using SpeedFan and HWMonitor. In Windows 7 32bit RM7100 both failed to monitor GPU temperature and fan speed, and there is only two temperature probe it displayed, the CPU and ACPI temperature. I haven't tried anything else though

While the only bug I have is the display brightness won't change, but that is because I use dGPU, if I enable PowerXpress the brightness can be changed but whatever driver I use, I cant seem to enable HD 4570 when I use the onboard doh.gif I have flashed to the latest BIOS FYI

Even I puzzled by what he said, as I found nothing related to fan speed bug like you said unsure.gif I would like to ramp up the fan speed a littel while gaming too. If I find anything I'll definitely post it here wink.gif There is some other programs I wanted to use

Oh another thing I found, the k10stats doesn't seem to overclock the CPU even though after reboot it displayed the overclocked speed, even the BIOS reads it has been overclocked! I 'managed' to overclock to 4GHz, that was so silly it impossible to reach such speed, the benchmark score reflect it exactly the same as before, but the voltage really did changed so you definitely can cooldown the CPU by doing so. Lowest I got is 1.0375V for load and 0.9V for idle. Force the idle to 1GHz 0.9V and watch the temperature drop smile.gif I got 49C in non air conditioned room

Ok. Here's how I do it for those who didn't really get what I said earlier. FYI, I'm using K50AB purchased from All-IT.

Step 1: Update Windows Vista completely (I'm using Vista Ultimate 32 bit).

Step 2:
Install AMD/ATi drivers from official website (not Asus website). Other drivers, use the included driver CD to install all.

Step 3: Switch from HD4570 to HD3200 via ATi driver inside Windows.

Step 4: Go to Sleep mode via Start Menu.

Step 5: Wake up from Sleep by pressing any key or mouse click.

Step 6: The fan will now be spinning at full speed! biggrin.gif
(Note: You can change to HD4570 back now for gaming, and the fan will still be running at full speed. However, if you plugged/unplugged your power supply, you need to restart Step 3 and onwards)

Key benefits:
- Temperature at idle is as low 36 degrees Celsius. You will realize even the hard disk and top-right-hand side corner is no longer warm!
- Temperature at gaming is still very low, since the Asus K50AB is designed to cool all parts of the laptop (comprehensive-exhaust system).
- The air that the fan is blowing out will not be as hot as before as the fan speed can push much more air out, thus preventing heat build-up.
- Longer life for your laptop components and battery.
*
I'll try it on Windows 7 RC7100 smile.gif

The comprehensive exhaust system cracks me up, the cooling and layout is EXACTLY the same as k40AB, how can you say it was better than k40AB laugh.gif

hmm, actually the intel proc i mentioned is a cluv ( compact ultra low voltage model) thats used in light notebooks for low power and minimal processing power, and normal user exprience on windows desktop sure will be the same since both of my systems have the same response times in windows 7. what i'm comparing is the speed of it in games since new titles nowdays are getting more cpu intensive( take prototype for example) so its not just about the graphics processor anymore. Another thing i need to clarify is that i'm not saying the k50/k40 is bad, since the specs u get especially the gc is great for 1.9k. i'm just stating another option for the end user thats all.
*
Look, you only talking about yourself the whole time, I don't see benefits to other user. Yes you might say RM700 is little for you but A LOT to others. You get what you pay for, buy more get more, but not always. And seriously, unless you can give me some link or benchmark number, I don't believe QL-64 have the same processing power as some 1.4GHz single core low voltage Intel processor. And how you know QL-64 going to be slow? Have you tested it yourself?

If you serious about gaming, forget buying cheap laptop. I don't believe Studio 15 is miles ahead of k40AB, low end card is a low end card, no matter what CPU it uses

Lol, ur right, rm700 isn't a small amount, i'm just saying if u wanna compare 2k laptop to a 3k with same specs and a c2d t9550 why not just get something in between? and about the comparisim i made earlier, the exact comparisim is between a rm-74 and a C2D SU9400 (two cores, sry about the mistake), you can follow the link here http://www.tomsguide.com/us/HP-Laptops-Not...iew-1392-2.html, to see for yourself. My apologies if what i said offended anyone here.
*
Basing performance on Windows Perfromance Index, its not even accurate. It even can be considered lame. My desktop can achieve 6.2 CPU score, does that mean my lappy with 4.7 feels a lot slower? Nope. There are no detail on what WEI tested for CPU test, and they might optimise it for Intel too

pc mark scores for a su9400 are around 1200-1300, a Ql-64 can do around 1300-1400, while a pentium dual core t4200 is able to run at 1700+ depending on the chipset as theres the one with intergrated graphics and also the pm45 chipset which is used on the dell 1555. see what i mean? u can check a few notebook reviews around the web to verify this if u still doubt my claims. And i did say before that although older games don't depend to much on the cpu, newer games are getting more cpu intensive, unless u want tell me u can get discrete solutions like audio cards to offload cpu load on a notebook. Plus user experience in windows is practically the same since windows 7 is optimized for all types of procs, not just for intel like u said.
*
PCMark also means nothing to me, that is why I don't bother testing it and put it on the first page. And please don't bother sayng 3DMark too as those are synthetic banchmarks. Like I said, all you said is theoretically, CPU dependant or not the graphics card on both this laptop is too slow to make any difference while gaming

Hi guys!

Wow, my first post! Been following this forum for quite some time, and it's been weeks since I bought this Asus K40AB.

Hey, I would like to ask the TS, how do you overclock using K-10 stat? The guide doesn't seem to provide any details about it. smile.gif Thanks in advance!
*
k10 can't overclock, even though it registered as overclock but the truth is the clock speed remains the same as there is no speed differences

Performance of harddisk is not really depends on the rotational speed, the density of drive platter plays important role too, as you can see from some high density disks with single or double platter reaching more than 500GB can beat 10000rpm Raptor (I talking about desktop drive here)

Its up to you whether you really need 500GB or just 320GB. Take note too 7200rpm drive can get hotter than slower speed, and possibly makes more noises too

mybe i should be more spesific.
1.700 for engine and 600 for memory?
2.then press set clock and u good to go?
3.and theres 2 devices under Device, which one to be OCed?
4.what if u close the problem, it still being OCed?
5.do i need to start the program everytime i start window?

thanks in advance

I guess you never used overclocking program before, and not bother reading the post properly:
1) Yes, kucingfight stated it clearly on his post, even so, its common sense, default clock is 680MHz core 500MHz memory, its not that hard to figure it out rolleyes.gif
2) Lol yes, you don't need to do Fourier Series calculation for it to work biggrin.gif
3) Look for HD4570, I don't know the exact string because I only used dGPU, but find the string with HD4570 stock clock
4) What do you think? Of course it still run overclocked even when the program closed
5) Yes, unless you save a profile and run it on startup

I got my HD4570 to be stable at 720MHz core 620MHz memory and got 3485 marks on 3DMark06 biggrin.gif But on day to day games, I just ramp up the memory clock to 615MHz and core to 705MHz smile.gif

Lol 3 hours is impossible, mine lasts about 2 hours although I only open up Acrobat reader looking at datasheet and a little web browsing when I do my modding. I never use battery most of the time

K40AB also have the same update, I've flashed it just now, now with dGPU mode I can change brightness in Windows, the previous one requires a restart before it taking changes thumbup.gif

What they should do is give a program to control the fan speed, or at least give some options in the BIOS to control the fan speed according to temperature

any1 can share about the k10stat by k40ab user??
i wan to knw the suitable voltage...does it same to every k40 ab?
and i forgot the P0 default cpu voltage...and nw is 1.1000
i wanna ask about the voltage does effect to the Ghz of the processor and performance?
and1 help me sharing v me.... k40ab user icon_question.gif
*
The P0 is obviously 2.1GHz, while the P1 is power saving mode. Voltage is voltage, it don't have any impact in performance or clockspeed unless you mess with the other setting. About the voltage, it depends. YOU need to test what voltage is it stable. Most can get 1.05V at 2.1GHz, while I can go lower at 1.0375V. There is FIVE profile you can set on k10stats, if you forgot the stock value select the other profile
