QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 20 2009, 11:07 AM) Hmmm never thought of that, i just run according to my own comfortable pace. It took me about 42 minutes (really slow i know compared to you guys lol but still actually faster than all the casual guys at where i run). 42mins; that ain't half bad But have seen the UPM runners at the UPM track before...crazy... But have run with my friends before and they're quite a lot slower and it was easier of course. True what you said above. track running, road running diff r.. but believe me when i say if u train to pecut uphill more often then not, you can be just as fast (mebe nt as fast but definitely improve include speed training in the run itself on your norm route(track), nt on a dedicated day, u'll defnitely see the improvement QUOTE(chgchksg128 @ Oct 20 2009, 05:14 PM) How?train train train!! ur norm training routes or a specific training day should include hill work QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 20 2009, 07:13 PM) woooh, i like that attitude. 5km in 26mins? nt bad nt bad...But it is very hilly lol. These few days see a lot of people running the mizuno trail. Today 5km in 26min 20sec. Really want to dip below 20min in the coming months. Read online that 26min is ok, and ur athletic if u run in 20min...darn...i'm not athletic... I actually got my distance wrong the other day...paiseh...it was 4.8km in 27min 15sec. Forgot to run another 200 metres on the track lol. sustain that pace for 10km if possible, forget abt the hills ..confirm medal in hand! QUOTE(chgchksg128 @ Oct 20 2009, 10:17 PM) its nvr too late mate.. today wednesday..u do double hill 3 days in a row, rest sat then even sun WAHSAI hw many mins for the medal? another KL City day run o btw hw hilly is hilly la? like DH? worse? QUOTE(euphoria88 @ Oct 21 2009, 07:06 PM) Any confirmation peeps QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 22 2009, 11:58 AM) Got my saucony's from ccube today! Oh my they're really light and comfortable... Which model? Can't wait to break it in this evening. Wooh! haihz ..me too need new shoes QUOTE(tenno @ Oct 22 2009, 01:31 PM) Good stuff QUOTE(tenno @ Oct 22 2009, 03:16 PM) Most training programs I've seen only specify the distance or time U have to run, plus at what pace. They dun put there how hard U have to run, in terms of heart rate la. So, actually, U'll do just fine with Nike Sportsband. I think at times there are programs which are heart rate oriented.. like recovery heart rate pace, steady non -pushing heart rate pace and pushing max heart rate pace..being betterI also check out these sites : Cool Running and Active.com Running microsite. I think these programs are better because everyone's heart rate is diff, and its more specific eg. a beginner and a pro... If asked to run a 6min/km pace you may not be able to reach such a pace.. but if asked to run at a specific heart rate you can do so if you hv a heart rate monitor ..and of course as you train, you are able to push longer and harder eg. 142 bpm may use to be your avg when you were a beginner, it would have been more difficult for you to run at a higher avg but as you train your avg bpm will easily be higher translating to you running faster QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 22 2009, 08:38 PM) So happy today...my first ever 10km run...actually felt a huge sense of accomplishment. Congrats! 1 hr 5min 10sec Felt like I could go further but at the risk of collapsing. One Question, anyone here ever collapsed before in a run? Be it in a casual/training/competition run? Curious to know. |

QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 22 2009, 11:09 PM) The Progrid Jazz 12. Not a super expensive shoe but it's still super expensive for me lol. 45mins for 10k = normal???????????/!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Just very happy to have gotten it, gift from someone. No man...didn't register and never ever raced in my life before. And 1 hour 5min is super slow lol. Read online that normal guys usually run 10k's at 45 min. And the wave run isn't like my normal running which is quite flat. It's really hilly. Slopes here and there. i can assure its not i m sure many many do not run a 10k in 45 mins to run 10k in 45 mins, 1km =? and if lets say ur fastest km for now, doesn't reach the 45mins for 10km mark, can u even sustain that pace for 10km? jgn risau, chill chill, train train train and you ill improve! QUOTE(tenno @ Oct 23 2009, 09:09 AM) I dun think normal ppl can run 10K in 45 mins. Normal athlete maybe la. The world record is 29 mins I think. My Ministry's best runner last year clocked 37 mins (he's a national-class athlete). I just broke the hour last July (on the track). Relax. Dun be so hard on Urself. Added on October 23, 2009, 9:14 am I never really run in my training zone. I almost always run at 80% of my max, tht's about 170 bpm. Even if I try to jog easily, my heart rate would go up to 150. But that 170 bpm, I can sustain for quite sometime la. Just that, if I tried to stay in my training zone, I'd be going too slow. but u shud nw that ur nt suppose to hit 80% like reallli often? there is a reason why dey want u to start slow? i encountered what you encountered..too slow but after a while i realize i could run faster without a high bpm, so despite being in the "training zone" my speed improved? there must b some sort of base training? before hitting the high notes? |

QUOTE(Johannbeckham @ Oct 23 2009, 03:27 PM) Guys, I want to ask for advice/tips with regards to the best way of loosing weight while training for marathon without starving yourself or any crash diet (because we need to eat appropriately while we're training right?cause we need food to fuel our body for this kind of sport). See, I'm 173cm, 85kg and I think my weight is really wearing me down running for long runs. I think it is my weight that causes the side of knees to hurt during long runs. Tonight I plan to run 11k from my place in Sec 14 then Jalan University all the way to Jalan Gasing, PJ Hilton and back to my place. Hopefully I will be able to finish the run without hurting my knees again. honestly, you should just run and eat as per norm..becoz bear in mind, last time when u eat.. u weren't into running? hence the increase in weight but having started running, you should see a diff.. but if your serious, do a little research with GOOGLE for the required calories for a male adult count what you eat, eat as per recommended.. but the thing is, never ever starve, and i assume you know that if at times you feel hungry it could also mean you haven been drinking enuff water o btw, knees hurting.. aging shoes? no offense but 85kg at your height isn't half bad and 11km isn't actually that far.. and i assuming you have ran this distance before? trying taking things a little slower.. a relaxing pace QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 23 2009, 03:31 PM) Err, noob question here cuz i've never entered a race before. haha avg? and hour is a good time to aim forWhat are the average times for the top 10? top 100? Been googling but they don't seem to publish past results unless i've been searching wrong. QUOTE(tenno @ Oct 23 2009, 05:19 PM) Of course. During slow days I'll go real slow, almost walking pace. This is especially during the building base phase, usually the first 4 weeks of Ur 12-week program. Even during this base phase, they will include some intervals, maybe not so high intensity ones la. mm good to hear, i think runners sometime fear to do a slow recovery run as they fear it may somehw affect their training.. rest is good peeps! slow is good!I'm picking my racepack tomorrow. So, after race we all meet next to the Milo van ah ? I shud be easy to recognize, I'll be wearing Livestrong visor (black color), Oakley M-frame Livestrong & band. What if there's no Milo van ? hey, i am also picking up my pack tommorow Wahsai! after run me looking for ARMSTRONG runner keke Me btw will b in a red "PACEMAKER" jersey, my bib will mostly likely have the letter LYN the progrid jazz12 is a good pair of shoes btw.. my first official pair of running shoes.. unfortunately nvr had the chance to fully utilize them |

Hi all,
I trust you all enjoyed the run It was my first time running over there and I certainly didn't expect such a hilly terrain, what more 11km The LAST HILL was the BOMB!! I think it was really difficult to get there, the starting point I clocked 54'30'' hving pressed me watch as I heard the start gun go off (minus a minute or so for starting in the middle of the pack, hv to walk quite a bit before the official start line for the official net time), my position was 94!! I didn't manage to push as much as I wanted too due to my lack of knowledge in the route and considering my activities the day before.. I too waited at the milo van but left at abt 9.00am, wanted to escape the jam This post has been edited by d3vilzzzz: Oct 26 2009, 02:41 PM |

QUOTE(uglytwinkle @ Oct 27 2009, 01:50 AM) Jom. Honestly, you dun need a good pair of shoes to run..We pusing2 at Kiara Park for 30 rounds But wait until I buy the Adidas. I am using cheap shoes --? Power. Cant afford to buy that one. When I glanced many people wear good shoes, then I believe no wonder they can run easily Have you seen people running barefooted clocking great times on the road? if u hv participated in events i m sure u will.. If you have the heart to run, any shoe will do, try shorter distances? run on the grass? track? QUOTE(vin_ann @ Oct 27 2009, 08:18 AM) 1 water station for 11km is more than enough... my fren who run under 50mins did not drink at all... I myself din stop though.. I guess norm is when we train.. like 8/10 km on norm days we dun drink water.. I doubt if there is a dwnside to drinking water in the middle of a 10km run QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 27 2009, 09:31 AM) from what i read you're not suppose to drink in a 5km or 10km race. maybe just the first 5km drink a bit but after the halfway mark better don't drink cuz ur body won't absorb the water in time anyway. suppose to be well hydrated before the race. half marathons and full marathons are another story lah. I use to try and drink at like the 10km mark in half marathons, but I felt it din go down realli well... I now tend nt to drink or oni at the 18/19 km mark.. just to wet me mouth QUOTE(ccube @ Oct 27 2009, 10:41 AM) @Johannbeckham Where do run in PJ Sec 14? I am frm SS2 PJ, My runs norm take me to JayaOne, DutchLady, DUMC We could meet up Anyone else frm PJ area? This post has been edited by d3vilzzzz: Oct 27 2009, 10:55 AM |

Mine is.. hehe dunno la.. nvr realli check when me resting.. when i m running i knw la hahaJust calculated mine, it's about 63 bpm. - just saw in a running forum that a lot have about 50. - ok acquired target A huge improvement when i was slacking for the past few years. It was at about 80++. Had a junior who had a rate of about 30+ - 40. Crazy...but he's a crazy runner... QUOTE(euphoria88 @ Oct 27 2009, 03:59 PM) nope. Marathon if you're running all the way it is advised not to drink at all. Only drink b4 races. so its advised that when u run a marathon u dun drink water at all?so why the many water stations in a full or half marathon event? what can i say? great advice? |

QUOTE(euphoria88 @ Oct 27 2009, 04:34 PM) Yes. Depends on what marathon events, they have it for the public usually, those who can't stand. Not everyone go for marathons the main reason is to run ok. But if you're a real runner who run for competitions you should know not to consume any water during run cuz you'll slack eventually. Its common sense, so regarding your last question, its a yes interesting? so what do you do in a marathon? wow, i m surprised the professional kenyans then do not knw of such a fact looking at back at various major events, they can be seen consuming water so then again, oni the pros are nt too drink water, but its okies for us rite? since we dun mind slacking.. QUOTE(strinq @ Oct 27 2009, 04:46 PM) Erm, may I know where you got your source from euphoria? Yea, we will wait for her to revert...I really want to know that. In case you don't realise, it's a 42km run. EVERY article i've read about marathons encourage the runners to drink whether ur a pro or not. And in every race i see even the winners drink something. I too am interested to see the source for such "great" advice.. but the again, she claims it is "common sense" so ... |

Some people participate marathon not to run. To walk or whatver they want. And my run is running non-stop. You can check k, which athelete drinks water in a 5km run You said .. [marathon if running all the way it is advised nt to drink at all] so either you do not knw the definition of a marathon or....
