Can you tell me how to access the service menu in S10?

I know it voids warranty and I may make mistake and do something wrong.

But I am planning to buy S10 soon, and want to calibrate the white balance etc. And from your post, only in service menu.

Can you also post a step by step on what to change in service menu?

Much appreciated.

Even if you were able to access the service menu, are you able to do much calibration without having the right tools?

If Anfieldude can give us the settings he used and we change it in service menu :-)

Then of course we can calibrate.....

Not 100% sure whether warranty will be void, but that is what I read in various forums

I don't think you understand the concept of calibration, you can't just copy the setting just like that.

On the warranty part, there is no actual way of them to know that you have accessed the service menu. However, if you do change something that you should not in the service menu and it bricks your set then it becomes contentious.

On using other people's settings and changing blindly, it is not advised.

This is because there are set to set variations (and Panny does have a lot on the lower end models) and the video chain is different from person to person. The viewing environment is also different from person to person. I have so far calibrated a few X10s and the end results are different for each one.

To calibrate you need to use test signals and proper tools. You cannot calibrate greyscale, gamma, colour without tools.

What I am thinking is using your measurement as basis only.

As I have seen reviewers post their settings on various sites, which are meant as a starting point.

Of course in the end it will be up to each of us on the final settings.

What I need is just how to get to the menu, which options to change, and basic settings you used as basis.

Service menu...

Press the Vol- button on the display and press recall 3X on the remote, you will be in service menu. After that there are instructions there to follow.

I do not have the settings as I calibrated these displays for others. Pls check with them.

I still suggest you be careful with what you do there and understand that your source is important in calibration. I want to clearly state that if something does go wrong, it is your own risk.

Thanks. When I have the TV on hand, I will PM you if I need more info. I am still deciding between this and the Samsung 50B850

Added on July 31, 2009, 5:37 pmOK poll time guys.

In my country, The 50S10 is around 6,000MR, while Samsung 50B850 is around 11,000MR.

Which would you choose?

Is the Samsung 50B850 worth it, given the vast difference in price vs. the 50S10?

For your comparison, I got my 50B650 for RM6.3k (with so called '5yrs warranty) after deducting freebies.
