if the PS3 is modded.....it'll probably function only as a BD player.....you can forget about playing games.

Yup, I agree.... you've got a point there, bro.

On the spending of BDs, I don't really set any restriction... it depends what titles being release or selling with good deal on that particular month. I can go 2 months without buying anything (dats because I have over abundance of titles on the previous months) hehe... tongue.gif

During DVD-buying days (in late 90s), I used to rush out and buy any new R1 releases available without price concern. But with BDs nowadays... I'm willing to wait even if its my favourite newly-released titles! I'll wait til the price goes down to a price margin I'm ok with. Cheapskate me, huh... blush.gif

Dats right, but then again you wouldn't want to buy direct from Oppo ie., it'll be from US... then there's other issue like 'stepping down' power and etc. to consider.

I think the Oppo BDP is worldwide voltage compatible.

But when BD titles like HellBoy 2; where the 2nd disc is a DVD, I can't play 'em on my PS3... have to switch to my "non-upscaler" DVDp, which is a letdown....  doh.gif
*
One way around this is to get an upscaling AVR then whatever source you plug in (DVD, Astro) can be upscaled.

Yeah, even without HDMI the AVR can upscale but maybe not up to 1080p. There will be some limitation like only up to 1080i or 720p. Read the manual and see.

movies are released on different schedule in diff regions......games are usually global release

If that's the case, they should lock every single bd out there. Why some title are lock and some aren't.

beats me...i didnt make the rule...

i can only imagine because there is not one agreed standard that everyone is suppose to follow.....i.e. manufacturers and studios etc etc are free to do whatever they want

It is because certain region more 'holy' so certain 'part' cut?
For me I always prefer US vision, if possible unrated extended director cut. tongue.gif

cinema release date could be one of the reason for studio A but not entirely true for studio B....

another possibility....so that suckers like some of us here will buy region A and B and C and all its different editions because there's a slight diff in each releases.

Dats the thing... Fox is the main culprit, always locked their BD titles. At least for DVD, one locked, all locked!

I can confirm that the Oppo BDP is dual voltage. 100-240V.

So far only available in S'pore.  hmm.gif  Before, I've never heard of it, but it's a good American made...

It can be bought from SLT in Spore. It is actually manufactured in China....Its just that Oppo always concentrated on the design aspect and used the ABT VRS chip. It has very well designed audio and video circuitry.
