Watched a very good movie 2 nights ago. Warlords....Very aggresive mix. PQ very good, some shots a little soft, some grain and some noise in the dark areas. Overall, very good. SQ very good. Mandarin PCM 7 channels I think.

These HK guys really take the effort in making it realistic, that much I tell u. Rivals the big budget Hollywood ie, Gladiator...

Very good acting by the 3 main leads...

Also after not being able to watch Baraka due to its region coding (Region B) managed to catch about 1/2 hr on the region free Oppo. Fantastic, some ringing can be seen on some scenes but I believe it is due to the higher than usual downconversion (same as the IMAX scenes in Dark Knight) slightly apparent in some scenes, but overall thumbup.gif

Oh Yeah, the DTS-HDMA on Baraka is superb.

A good example of a DNR-ed (Digital Noise Reduction) BD movie... but I'd prefered it over grain nod.gif
and... it can oso caused by all the "sexi chix-es..." biggrin.gif

Actually, I did not enjoy the PQ of this movie because of the excessive DNR. The faces of the actors were waxy and the DNR was inconsistent. It was even clear on a 42in, very sure it will be apparent on a bigger screen.

The movie was great but the DNR was unnecessary.

Watched Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

Fathil shd forget abt getting this one on BD when it comes out. Stylized grain, just like the 1st one.

Very good LFE all around. THX Cinema AQ was at least worth while.

Can't say much abt the movie though..

I think the Oppo BDP is worldwide voltage compatible.
One way around this is to get an upscaling AVR then whatever source you plug in (DVD, Astro) can be upscaled.
*
I can confirm that the Oppo BDP is dual voltage. 100-240V.

So far only available in S'pore.  hmm.gif  Before, I've never heard of it, but it's a good American made...

It can be bought from SLT in Spore. It is actually manufactured in China....Its just that Oppo always concentrated on the design aspect and used the ABT VRS chip. It has very well designed audio and video circuitry.

Watched Wall-E recently on BD. Really very good transfer. The details to attention by Pixar is unrivalled. The earth scenes were very well done and some very good LFE during the probe landing.

I would rate PQ to be on par with Ratatouille. SQ very good. I did not get DTSHDMA 6.1 on my Oppo but I believe the PS3 did show 6.1. Need to check this.

Bro, I didn't know you own an Oppo BDp. Is it region-free and any good overall... as compared to the other more "publicised"/known brand BDp out there? Thanks...
*
Fathil,

I gave my review in the BluRay player thread. It is now region free after I installed the hardware mod. It is an universal player and handles BD, DVD, DVD-A, SACD, HDCD and RedBox CD. That's its strength. As a BD player for PQ the differences between the different players (Panny, Sony, Pioneer) are minimal but there. SQ it bitstreams. DVD upscaling is very good as well. Check out the BD Player Thread.

yeah, wall-e indeed 6.1.

Yeah, read abt that. The problem is I believe the rears are matrix and are not discrete channels. I know my PS3 was sending a 6.1 channel but the Oppo was only showing 5.1, need to check this out.

Baraka is a love it or hate it documentary.

There are no commentaries, it is a series of pictures and videos. The shots are breathtaking. It is a reflection of the world. Very graphic reflection of the world.

I enjoyed it a lot.

The Deluxe Edition is Dolby TrueHD.

Don't pay too much attention to the audio and video specs that Amazon gives, it is not accurate.

Check blu ray lies.

As I replied, the Deluxe Edition (UK) and the Collector's Edition is Dolby True HD 5.1

Wow, you are one of the 1st person I know who looks forward to BD Live.

The UK Edition has BD Live. I am not too sure of the US Edition.

Amazon specs on Blu Ray discs are not updated. Pls check out my previous post on where to check the corrected info.

Ghostbusters Amazon US is now at USD14.99. With the promotional code of GHOSTBLU, it takes USD5 off, so in essence it is USD9.99. Even with shipping it comes out pretty cheap.

Star Trek Blu-ray Gets November Date, Augmented Reality

user posted image

Paramount Home Entertainment has set November 17 as the release date of the movie 'Star Trek' on Blu-ray, day-and-date with the DVD. This will be a three-disc set, and apart from other usual features, it will include a very novel one called “augmented reality,” allowing buyers to tour the Enterprise and even shoot enemies from the ship's deck, after holding the disc packaging in front of a webcam.

An early version of the feature can be accessed at the Experience the Enterprise Web site.

For the disc release, Paramount will include a visual icon inside the packaging that, when held in front of the webcam, will unlock a more immersive experience. Users will have to log in to a Web site to access the feature, but they control the hologram by holding the disc packaging.

Other extras include deleted scenes, a BD Live feature that connects viewers to live updates from space through NASA, and the Star Fleet Vessel Simulator, which offers a 360-degree view of the Enterprise and other ships.
