Fount this on fbtz.com ManUtd forum..

QUOTE(dada;1525665)
OK, I finally watched an entire 90 minute match of Obertan in action for France vs Chile in the Toulon Festival Final (U20).

To begin, I'd like to point out that I dont remember Obertan taking a single shot during the entire match even though he seemed a league above everyone else when in possession of the ball. His teammates also seemed to struggle to keep up with his creativity which was a step or two ahead of their thought process.

On more than one occasion, brilliant team moves initiated by Obertan were broken up my poor touches and decisions by his teammates. One major culprit was the big midfielder Sankhare who was rather selfish in possession, he seemed intent of pulling off unnecessary tricks and half the time it ended with the ball being taken off him or a forced pass which would eventually be intercepted. On more than one occasion Obertan made strong runs into dangerous areas and either received the ball late or did not receive the ball at all as Sankhare tried a shimmy or two.

When in possession, Obertan seemed untouchable. He literally walked around defenders and I can only think of maybe one or two possessions during the entire match where he was dispossessed. He never wasted a touch or motion out there and was very composed in tight situations. His passes seemed to always hit its target and he created a fair share of opportunities for his teammates to get a good look at goal. The best part about his possessions were that he never slowed the flow of play by holding up the ball to make a move, all his dribble moves came in the rhythm of the game.

The only thing I wish is that he made a greater effort to be aggressive in the final third.  He was always around the box making the unselfish pass 10 out of 10 times. I'd like to see him cut inside or take a strike at goal more often.

Overall conclusion: Very impressive.

Trying to find more matches to watch this kid.

Have not signed him yet as far as I know. yawn.gif

#7 is for Fletcher. Obertan can have it after Fletcher retires.

QUOTE(boxsystem @ Jul 7 2009, 08:48 PM)
Guys, serious talk.

How many of you think that our current squad is good enough to challenge at all fronts?

And how many of you are transfer muppets?
*
We were always going to be weaker with Ronaldo gone unless we replaced him with a Messi or Ribery, but they are not in our reach unfortunately. So we'll just have to make do with a player who could potentially be really good for us in Valencia. And in Obertan and Ljajic, maybe they would be the 'new' Ronaldo.
We would cope just fine without Tevez if last season is anything to go by. Owen would get more goals, provided that he's fit most of the time, which the last 2 seasons for Newcastle, he was.

Ronaldo brought a lot of goals, but I would say, now that he's gone, the others would pick up the pieces with a change of tactics. And with having a more traditional winger in his place, the others would get a lot more joy in the box. The only thing is whether someone else will step up to be a match winner for us. We have them in Rooney and maybe Berba, but the others need to step up in this respect.

In terms of numbers and quality, we have them in abundance all over the place. The defence is great, the attack is pretty good with Owen in there, but obviously question mark about his fitness hanging over his head. We probably don't really have a star midfielder now that Ronaldo is gone, but as a midfield unit together, we are strong IMO. Nani and Anderson could potentially be stars for us in the future, but until that happens, they need games to improve to get there. This is a squad, along with Ronaldo and Tevez that have won almost everything the last 3 seasons. And to me, that's reason enough to still believe in this group of players can still challenge on all fronts.

I'm still hoping for a repeat of 06/07 style..

QUOTE(Makakeke @ Jul 7 2009, 09:24 PM)
Kill me but our midfield is still weak. Tosic is still unproven, as talented he might be. Giggs and Scholes have only 1 more season to go. Park is hardworking and that's about it. The others like Carrick, Fletcher, Ando, and Nani are great players but I don't think they match the standards of other world class midfielders have set, yet. By world class I mean, clubs would queue up and pay 30 mil pounds without 2nd thought for their service. Having said that, there're aren't any available midfielders like that in the market except for Fabregas, which i somehow hope SAF is crazy enough to go for him.
*
As a midfield unit we're a match for anyone, except Barca. You are right about Fabregas.. one player other than Scholes, Xavi and Iniesta could play those sort of passes consistently. Can't see us getting him though.. if he moves, it would be back to Barca as Xavi's replacement.

QUOTE(Lmarco;6520101)
That's what our papers say wink.gif Between 2M€ and 3M€ without the bonuses. He passed the medical yesterday and an agreement was reached three months ago (!) between the two clubs. The player was informed just a week ago. He was at Carrington yesterday with Sir Alex.

3 months ago eh? Guess SAF had it all planned long ago..

It was Scholes-Carrick for the first two seasons in which we were back on winning track. Only last season Scholes form took him out of it. But like Ando showed in his first season when Scholes was out for a bit, that he can really take that role, although he's no Xavi/Iniesta/Scholes in his passing. But he will make it up by using his other attributes. If we are to bring anyone else right now, it would just hurt/slow his progress. I say we stick to what we have, and see where it gets us. If it doesn't work out, Giggs and Scholes is still around. And Carrick and Fletcher ain't that bad actually.

That's encouraging to hear. I know he's not young anymore, but with GK, the older they are the better they would be. Would obviously help us in the long run if those homegrown(6+5) rule come into place.

He won't do that, but maybe he would for AC Milan. He said that's his fav team or something.

Instead of buying Ribery, we bought a younger version of him. Remains to be seen whether he will ever be as good, or close enough as Ribery.

Wonder whats up with Tevez. Surely he's found a club by now? Surprised none of the big boys wanted him?

Added on July 8, 2009, 3:48 amThe pre-season games should start already. Transfer activity is done. Now we need real football matches.. arrghh I can't wait any longer! I'm dying to see Obertan, Owen, and Valencia all play. HELP!

They have linked us with everyone. Yet we got the ones not on their list. Don't think we're into Huntelaar. It was either Owen or him. And if we were really seriously interested in him we would have included him in the Ronaldo deal. Although if he went for really cheap, things might change. But for 20m, no chance.

Owen haven't even got a number yet. Why would anyone buy a numberless Owen jersey..

Won't be so soon, and EPL level is different.. he might find it hard. Let's just wait and judge him after he actually impress for us in those games. But it's encouraging signs so far if we look at those vids. Seems like a team player, good vision, quite pacy, skillful, good link up play.. if he's able to show that for our first team, and work on his consistency, then we'll have a player...
