Can I ask you something? If you get really bored, what are you going to do? Quit? I'm curious.

Also, dude, bodybuilding is very much a solo activity. Sometimes gym buddies can be annoying. I know I'm one.

Having a real life friend as a gym buddy works much better IMO.
Try persuading them to join you. It's better than having a stranger you just met as gym buddy.

I second third fourth and fifth Barney!

Sky - its a solo flight my friend. The gym buddies that you need are:
1. the mindset "WANT TO"
2. Your workout/ training plans
3. An inner voice that booms "GET THAT ASS TO THE GYM" when youre heart says "boringgg.. tired.. raining... didnt bring towel.. cannot find socks.. tv show.. etc". My favourite excuse "I'll hit harder tomorrow" huhuhu..

My experience many years ago, I had a gym buddy which was great for motivation, but we did the same type of cardio exercises (plus I'm naturally addicted to aerobics class). That was all we did.. after awhile of course boredom set in and excuses came more and more frequently. I was a workaholic back then and didnt have much time to research more on fitness etc. after 4 months, both of us stopped gymming in favour of weekend shopping.

A year ago when I started a new gym and learnt more of different workouts, glorious after-burns, strength and weights, I do find that having a gym buddy is not at all important.. hitting my training plan hard and intense IS. When youre gasping for air, feeling the burn and seeing stars.. you need the focus (after workout chitchat is OK but not during).

BUT I feel you, I have my days where I just want to workout with a friend once in a while. My friends belong to diff gyms, So, I'll ask a friend to come using guest pass and save these sessions as 'eazylazy workout', where we can learn new exercises (because we might look stupid doing it wrong and can gelak2 together) or try new group classes. icon_rolleyes.gif

As it was mentioned before, its not always a luxury to have a spotter but there are always ppl around the gym. Just a smile and chat and you will make some new friends

I already met a couple of them at the gym that I go to. Mostly ApiiT students but freaking strong =.=
Some Indons, Irans...etc etc.

actually gym alone is a lot better to hav fren's companies
if u gym with a bobybuilder or an atheletic body fren
it might can help u up,if not.U rather choose to gym alone
like mcBarney said bodybuilding is very much a solo activity
when i juz started to join a gym,i wanted to find a gym mate too
but now i get used too gym alone,u can concentrate in ur workout wink.gif

Well, I haven't start to go gym yet, most of my training are at home alone.

I don't find doing gym alone boring. It's all in the mindset.

I know that you want to see a result - good shape of body.
You have to find a person who has same goal with you.
Motivate each other. Do & share some research.
But, the problem here is how to find such a quality gym buddy.
I wish I have one too

Hey, this isn't friendfinder.com or gymbuddyfinder.com. I have been training alone most of the time, its all in the head boy.

furthermore, motivation comes from progress that you see in the mirror smile.gif

Friends can be found in the gym. Everything starts with a simple chat / smile.

Aiyoh, you guys hardcore fellas go attack him for what?!
Relax lah. LOLz!

I don't have a training buddy because there's no one doing the same programme with me in the same gym.

Having a partner (a good partner) is good thing mah.
Keeps you motivated and when you feel sucky, and see that your partner is all pumped up to whack the weight... you wouldn't just sit around wasting time in the gym.

Don't worry dude. The more you become stronger, the more motivated you will become.

i hate it when people throw puny weight dumbell like they are so elite. although it motivates me to work very hard to show that man, even I don't throw weight, my body can be like brad pitt or Mark Wahlberg. LOL I just know actors. BTW I start alone, then slowly the gym mate become my friends

Unless they're throwing pink dumbbells or doing exercises in the wrong form, they can throw the weight *kaboom* as they like... as long as not on my toes.

Because I do that sometimes. Takkan you wanna put down the bar queitly after the deadlift. X^D

thats what i do rclxub.gif try my best to put the weights quietly after every set.

personally dont like ppl throw dumbbell n weight after using, as if they just finished a super heavy weight workout n want to show to all ppl. one guy in the gym i workout likes to do that, eg when do dumbbell curls, he pull the bench near the mirror, do 1 set, then banggggg the dumbbell after finish, n look around. n almost everyset he does that.

sometimes its understandable, where u roughly know a guy is on his maximum weight or last set, then he drop the weights.

Actually, that's exactly what I do. Set it down ever so gently, while trembling all over and very red in the face. Normally, I can't even stand up for half a minute after a set of deadlifts.

The gym is padded. Dropping weights doesn't makes a huge bang. It just goes 'dom'.

I never bothered about letting the bar go down real softly for the deadlift. I just put it down as usual. Sometimes there's a clang, sometimes a soft knock. It doesn't seem to bother anyone... because there's no one around. Paiseh paiseh X^D

When I was in university, I would occasionally make rough appointments with a friend to meet in the gym. We don't workout together; he does his stuff, I do mine. But it's really enjoyable to have a person you know in the gym with you. We do talk between sets. So, yeah, I totally understand the attraction of having a gym buddy.

Why not make friends with regulars at the gym?

I've found relying on a friend who isn't as motivated or dedicated as you is dangerous, as his lax attitude can rub off on you.

true. if u see ur friend doesn't go, u might not want to go. worse, he persuades u not to go!

initially, i thought i'll be bored going alone and was seeking friend. now i'm quite happy being alone. there's a gym which has a number of malaysians and heard they are quite noisy and annoy the patrons there. after a few months, they rarely go. it's called hangat-hangat tahi ayam.

it's all mind over matter. when u see changes in urself and people praised on your changes, u'll be motivated to go even if u are alone.
