here is a taste of telstra's superior 3G network on the iPhone 3G S.

bear in mind that, the iPhone was in a confined building and situated down the basement.

Added on August 2, 2009, 9:40 pmif i do find employment in australia, i'm signing with telstra for sure!

their prices are too much for my consumption.

so with a student budget, i have to stick with optus at the moment

Anyone can tell me how to go chadstone from Glenferrie station? I plan to get 1 iphone 3gs coz all the mobile outlet out of stock. Even i went Optus for iphone 3gs 32gb, my answer was $ 1350 without cap plus need pre-order. Thx..
*
metlink

a journey of approximately 50 minutes with a combination of train and bus

chadstone is within the boundary of zone 1 and 2 and hence if you play your cards right, you might be able to get away with only one zone

u can buy it online from apple also..

LOL. i always like purchasing stuffs from the apple store.

i like the feeling of being served by personnel in bright florescent tee shirts biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

even though, they don't really hire good looking gals to work there (strangely enough)

perhaps, they don't like the idea of the personnel stealing focus from their beautiful apple products?

QUOTE(archive @ Aug 6 2009, 10:01 AM)
I'm buying an iphone in australia and will be using an australian sim for a bit while I'm there, but I don't want it to use gprs/3g to connect for data.

I know I can install a fake profile so it can't connect, but I would prefer to disable Data Roaming by setting my country as Malaysia (and obviously turning data roaming off!) so when I return I can put my sim here back in and surf away without problems.

Does anyone know how to set the country of the iphone? Is it based on the sim, or some other setting maybe when you activate it?

On a side note, after continuing my research... I've read that the australian iphones will not work here with local sim cards - they'll work in australia with my digi sim while roaming, but when I come back it wont continue to work. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Help would be appreciated.
*
if you are coming for a few days (less than a week), you can opt for optus prepaid services.

purchase the AUD30 SIM pack and it comes loaded with more than sufficient credit to access data on the net.

remember to change the plan to optus turbo cap.

prepaid are not sell yet for iphone 3g s

getting a prepaid version from the network is pretty crazy because they are in general more expensive and locked to its respective network

one should get an outright version from the apple store instead.

UNLESS the prepaid version comes bundled with a special iPhone package (for example more data)

im not sure this question has been asked.
i tried register my account in the itunes but i've reached a page where they require to enter my payment method when purchasing stuff through itunes.
as my credit card is from malaysia and i've registered under an australia account, they wouldn't accept it. so is the only way to go through this particular step/page is by entering an itunes gift card no.?
thx for the help in advance
*
yes. i have mentioned this on the iTunes pinned up, dedicated thread.

credit cards are tagged and they can then determine the country of origin.

so looks like, you will have to rely to the australian based iTunes gift cards.

scroll up for my post in regards to the recent d i c k smith sale.

have you taken into consideration of the GST claim and the ability to purchase the ACPP to increase the warranty duration?

not that i'm implying (or attempting to) that the maxis bound units are no good or inferior, but if you are indeed coming to australia for an extended period of time (for example employment, studies et cetera), i recommend that you get it from here instead.

you will be delighted to learn that the warranty claim here (as a result of the existence of an apple store in australia) is a total joy and breeze.

too bad my frens cant get it from 3 bcoz his visa expired soon n currently applying for PR..
he ordered from 3 via on9 but they call him cant deliver to him...then my fren argue with them about it(about PR thingy) n i rmb i heard something from my fren tht they told him bridging visa also cannot get it..(but i duno wats bridging visa)
*
yeah they can pretty fussy in regards to visa unfortunately.

my passport unfortunately doesn't have the conventional visa sticker (compared to my UK one) and i had major difficulties explaining to the optus peeps of the latest move by the australian government of issuing visas electronically.

the last resort, was me, logging into the actual immigration website and showing them the electronic version on the monitor and the store manager came along to verify it.

oO...i think is the store's fault/mistake
me n other frens went optus store in qv n submit visa from email also nothing

same like bank statement..my fren got bank statement printed n with chop from CBA to apply for 3 n they said tht is not bank statement..they need written bank statement with chop n signature..but other stores allow the printed statement doh.gif
*
nah... it is okay la.

no worries at all. just have to be patient at times. because if the optus store refuses to accept my custom, i can always patronise another optus store or network.

at least we are not those people who threatens to sue/boycott the network for whatever reasons biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

would i be able to claim gst if i bought the iphone with cash from Apple Store? According to reliable sources, one has managed to buy iphone with cash off Robina Apple store.
*
yes. provided that you have the receipt with you.

however, if i'm not wrong, purchases exceeding AUD1000 need to be accompanied by a receipt bearing your name & address (this part needs confirmation)

uncertain about robina's but the one in chadstone requires credit card for sure.

erm guys this might be alittle off topic
anyone use commonwealth debit card??
coz in Brisbane the apple store is very far down south
so i tot of paying through online using debit card, but anyone know the limit usage of debit card use through online??
*
IMHO, if your debit card issued by the australian bank, is the debit mastercard variant, you should be able to use it without any problem.

and the usage limit in this instance, will be dependent on how much you have on that said account during the transaction.

a few question i wanna ask about unlocked phone from aus. Recently there are quite a lot of thread selling iphone 3GS from australia. So every iphone 3GS is already officially unlocked, work just like maxis set??

and according to this picture:-
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

and compared to this thread the code for officially unlocked set is Australia: MC133X. So we just judge whether its unlock or lock thru the white sticker alone?
*
not necessarily. the model just represents the "region" and could still be locked to a network.

the good thing is, you can opt for an unlock from the respective network for a fee

my replacement unit was from apple store and it is still locked. but optus unlocked it PERMANENTLY for me
