QUOTE(al3p @ Jun 29 2009, 03:28 PM) Sure can claim lol. not sure about other airports, but Tullamarine has an extra booth before the check in section.Make sure to remind her to bring the item with her (handbag or hand luggage). They need to inspect the item first.(they dont open it tho) you could present the item to the officer in that said booth, and once satisfactory, he/she will give a stamp on your receipt and then you can check in that item. payment collection will be done before you actually board your plane! |

QUOTE(al3p @ Jun 30 2009, 04:07 AM) Im pretty sure you got a message from Optus saying that your phone is unlocked. If not, wait for 5 days and try to restore your iphone and put another simcard and see whether it is working or not. 10 days is basically the approximate time. Some people reported that their iPhone is unlocked as earliest as 2 hrs (emergency request such as travelling oversea etc) up to 7 days. yeah. it has been reported in the whirlpool forum as well.as a matter of fact, by the fifth day, if you don't receive any text, i reckon that you can proceed to restore it (this is the essential bit to complete the entire unlocking process) This post has been edited by nokia2003: Jun 30 2009, 08:02 AM |

QUOTE(allornothing @ Jun 30 2009, 08:40 PM) Hi everyone. Before jumping in, I wish to confirm my understanding first. step 1: yesLet's say, I'm asking someone who is coming back from Aussie to get me an iPhone 3G S and I get to use it here, on my line, say Maxis. Step 1: I only buy from any of the 5 Apple retail stores listed on this thread. Step 2: I assume since it's outright and unlocked, it can be brought back to use immediately. My question is, is the phone already unlocked before I purchase it, so that I don't have to pay for unlocking. I'm not signing up on any plans whatsoever. step 2: yes not signing up. |

QUOTE(allornothing @ Jun 30 2009, 10:47 PM) If all goes well, then I would be are you heading to the chadstone one? because i might be going there for a haircut tomorrow, come to think of it! The stock availability is something I cannot do much though. I'm hoping for good news if i do remember, i will try to pop by in to check their "current" inventory level and post the result here. |

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jun 30 2009, 11:35 PM) @nokia2003, that is very subjective and i rather not venture into something so vague.Since U mentioned the GST, perhaps we should tell the rest here they could TRY at the airport; who knows? they may be as lucky as U and Auro ! the only assured way is via the same person who bought it and the same person who claims it |

QUOTE(beavis68 @ Jul 1 2009, 11:44 AM) for those who got 3GS..... did u guys try out d voice dialing? is it accurate? i did try it but it not that accurate. because you don't have the american "accent". for example - i will say "dail 123456789" then d iphone will dail 103456789" it seem like very hard to recognize d number "2" however it is never meant to be accurate. you are better off, dialing via the names IMHO. by the time, that you keep trying to regurgitate the numbers out, you are better off taking the darn iPhone out of your pocket and dial them manually. Added on July 1, 2009, 11:57 am QUOTE(allornothing @ Jul 1 2009, 11:54 AM) Ah okay thank you. If it's possible, I would definitely like to save on the GST (works out to 79 Aussie dollars). I was told by my friend that he could get it at 800, so I'm assuming he knows about the GST issue and the ways for claiming the refund. i will try to answer on behalf of neekun (hope you don't mind)In my case, the person traveling also happens to be the person claiming it, so I think it's pretty unlikely any hiccups would arise from that. I'm more concerned on the customs on our side, since they will try all means to make life difficult. But the last time I got back from HK there wasn't even anyone at the Green AND Red lanes, so I'm hoping to be lucky this time around too. neekun: Do Apple stores provide it together upon the purchase? Or do we have to separately ask for it? If it's included, then I don't have to inform my friend what he was trying to imply is, it has be to be the original receipt. apple combines both your credit card statement and proof of purchase into one piece of paper. another update for purchasing the outright and unlocked iPhone 3G S units from the apple store in oz!
i was in chadstone earlier to purchase another unit for stringfellow » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « and i found out that the old ruling of 5 units per name has been abolished. one can, now purchase a maximum of two units per day! whilst this ruling is ideal for students like myself, however it may not appeal to tourists who has a limited staying duration in australia. something to ponder upon perhaps? and as of now, you will need to present a form of identification to purchase an iPhone (for example a passport) anyway, i'm pretty sure that most of the peeps over here, will be able to distinguish between unlocked units and vice versa. they are characterised by this circular, white sticker at the back of the box (as shown in the spoiler below) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « ********************************************************************************** okay, enough nonsense preaching, pictures time! the mecca of iPhone lovers! » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Added on July 14, 2009, 4:13 pm*update: the first post of this thread has been updated, to reflect the latest changes This post has been edited by nokia2003: Jul 14 2009, 10:00 PM |

if you iPhone is indeed australia bound, it can be unlocked. the only concern is whether there is a nominal fee attached to it
Added on July 19, 2009, 2:47 pm QUOTE(teckhooi @ Jul 19 2009, 02:18 PM) advice: get it from maxisany users here on '3' australia? my flatmate is complaining that '3' has the tendency to opt for the telstra network (hence appearing as roaming). calling and texting are cool, but retrieving/sending data when you are on telstra roaming, will cost a bomb. i have tried out on my brother's '3' SIM card on my iPhone 3G S as well and do observe this phenomenon frequently. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « This post has been edited by nokia2003: Jul 19 2009, 02:47 PM |

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 29 2009, 05:00 PM) @nokia2003, yeah. because the '3' isn't as superior (yet). hence they do rely on telstra to a certain degree.U mean when U are on roaming it actually states "roaming" at the top? Am surprised this phenomenon is happening cause "3" is considered a 'local telco' right?! QUOTE(jphlau @ Jul 29 2009, 05:00 PM) i know. but changing the network to automatic or vice versa doesn't seem to help as well.i'm trying to look for other alternatives for my flatmate as he has 'subscribed' to the data roaming charges by accident (and he doesn't want to disable the data too, as he is wants to stay online 24/7) another friend of mine, insisted by rebooting the iPhone 3G S. but doesn't work as prescribed Added on July 29, 2009, 5:07 pmjust hope that when the merger between vodafone and '3' becomes imminent, this problem will be less prevalent. i'm glad that i stuck with optus instead This post has been edited by nokia2003: Jul 29 2009, 05:09 PM |
