ty for answering.
since additional fee is imposed for unlocking, i dont think reseller will invest more $$ to unlock it sad.gif

but if you ask for an unlocked unit from the apple store personally (not by some dodgy sellers), the unit will remain unlocked.

someone in my uni, is selling his/her 32GB for quite a decent price IMHO. saw his/her ad in my uni website. melbourne-ians can PM me for his/her contact details.

*disclaimer: i'm in no way affiliated with this person and hence cannot be held responsible*

A one day old iPhone 3Gs 32GB Black is available for sale. Its been used for 2 minutes as you can see on the usage meter and is in perfect condition. It comes with box and all accessories. Its locked to Optus and you can get it unlocked from the city for cheap. Its on a sale and price is $830.

exchange rate is approximately 2.9

Added on August 20, 2009, 3:06 pmoptus unlocking is free for contract holders and for prepaid users, it is technically free as well, because you just need to re-load your account with AUD120.

once you are done, you can then transfer the balance to another person (that is what i have heard apparently)

so if you play your cards well, the unlocking could be free of charge.

a few things to ponder upon:

1. for peeps in australia for employment or education, the network is subsidising the phones (as they need to pay for monthly usage anyway)

2. there is an official apple store in australia and hence a more "reliable" customer care.

3. the ability to purchase apple care protection plan to extend the warranty.

4. the ability to purchase an outright/prepaid version (also online, delivered to you FOC) without figuring out which maxis outlet/MEP will be kind enough to let you to go on hotlink.

5. oh did i mention that i'm nearing my 4th monthly re-payments and there are still prospective maxis customers waiting in queue?

yup. at the rate of globalisation (and people in general can command more luxuries), LV has become immensely cheap (relatively) and could hence be at reach of students i.e. melbourne is an education hub.

my luck with the iPhone is certainly running on wafer thin ice.

never in my two iPhone generations, i had so much problems.

my 3G S can no longer hold sufficiently charge anymore.

i left my house for a three hours lecture today and it was standing at 60%.

without even using it to text, call et cetera, it dropped to 10% by the time i got home.

now, it will not even charge. it stalls, as shown in the picture below.

Added on September 7, 2009, 6:45 pmnow, i'm trying to figure the steps missing.

1. i have tried with 3 different, genuine USB cables.

2. tried with my macbook pro and the wall adapter.

3. attempted to enter DFU

4. gave a slight blow to see if any debris is stuck inside

5. repeated step 2, numerous times with different time durations.

anything else?

You'll definitely get a replacement.  Taking that into account, U onli need another 3 changes to hold the new record smile.gif

good thing that i have an appointment tomorrow morning.

my only regret is that i cannot erase my data thoroughly before handing my unit over.

a few reasons why:

1. iTunes will not detect it.

2. it will not purge into DFU mode.

3. the battery is too low, to erase via the iPhone's settings (and then reset everything)

trust me. they will not be able to erase it on the spot. it all boils down to the last person who is gonna dismantle my iPhone to be "recycled" again.

i have been looking high and low for a torch light as well, but i cannot find a "powderful white light" one like unker dan's

i'm technically doing my second degree now. so go figure yourself! tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

i cannot promise anything to be honest, but i do patronise the university's website regularly (as my brother and i are actually looking for a decent deal for either xbox360 or ps3)

hence if there is something, then you are golden. if not, luck isn't on your side.

it will be ideal for you to land yourself an australian unit, as your sister will be able to redeem the warranty for you (or even extend it for another year via ACPP)

QUOTE(tadasu @ Sep 10 2009, 02:44 PM)
hi there,

im having a prob with my officially unlocked 3GS (vodafone) in malaysia. when 3G is in use, no prob. but when 3G is not available, i cant receive calls or messages (no prob calling or sending msgs), and my battery only lasts about 6 hours in standby mode... damn weird. im using maxis.

the last time when i was in msia with my 3GS, when it hasnt been launched yet, i got no 3G signal at all.

i tried disabling 3G, but that doesnt solve the prob as my phone only works in 3G mode.

any ideas y?? help pls notworthy.gif
*
1. so basically you paid vodafone AUD50 to have your 3G S unlocked officially or the person who sold you the unit, said so?

2. try to do a battery "reset" first before declaring that the battery is indeed faulty; drain the battery completely (until the icon asking you to charge pops up) and then charge it to 100%. turn it off and leave it for approximately 8 hours. there are a few variation to this battery "reset" but i typically stick to this one.

1. i paid vodafone to unlock officially, otherwise i wouldnt be able to use it at all in msia.
2. the battery is not faulty, at least not when im using it in australia now, and when 3G is available when im in msia. i dont think a battery issue, but a software/firmware issue.

the main prob occurs when there is no 3G coverage in parts of malaysia...
*
no idea then.

because AFAIK, the 5 3G S units that i helped to purchase from australia, do not have such problems (or at least not that i have heard of)

in that case, when there is no 3G coverage, just turn off the toggle to conserve power.
