yes. even with the prepaid/outright version, the warranty is limited to australia. however, all iPhones from the oz will be handled by the apple store (regardless of the provider) and hence you can assure that it is all good.

anyway, speaking of warranty; harmeet15, stringfellow and tinkerbel, kindly make a duplicate/scanned copy of the receipt ASAP as the paper is made out of those fax based type and the ink will diminish over time. but don't worry, i will make a scanned copy for your personal reference as well. harmeet15's unit has been collected by his proxy! so one down!

any warranty claims, i'll personally handle them (provided you can get i to me in melbourne). satisfaction guaranteed!

believe it or not. i have just sliced through the packaging and attempting a complete backup restore now. so yes, i'm darn knackered!

depends on how well you can argue your case. i have a friend (non-iPhone) and he got it done within days. the unlocking policy is the same throughout the network.

my flatmate, seriously kena poisoned kuat from me. we both got our iPhone 3G S together and when he saw my oakley pouch, he got one for himself as well!

alright enough about this GST question!

i have updated the first post with the actual correspond that i had with them.

i have to put a disclaimer here though.

it wasn't my intention of using a credit card. the apple store policy
is that all outright puchases have to be paid via credit
card.

hence, with if an item is paid via this method, the name is automatically printed
on the proof of purchase/receipt

erm, it has always been free on optus postpaid...

only you came up with crazy speculations, that you have to pay a month bill or so, et cetera

but why would that concern you, neekun?

isn't your 3G S from oz?

well if you ask for my own personal opinion (remember it is mine and it is subjected to speculation).

iPhone is a peculiar apple product in such a way, that it doesn't really follow the standard apple protocol.

even before the launch of the applecare in oz, only the american bound iPhones are eligible for the extended warranty.

reason is because, not every countries in the world (which offers the iPhone) has the standalone apple retail store. a quick snoop around the apple website, only australia, canada, china, germany, italy, japan, switzerland, uk and the states have the the standalone apple retail store.

hence, in countries (for example malaysia and singapore), the network provider will essentially handle the warranty issues. where else in australia, even the network provider (off the records) will personally advice you to send your problematic iPhones to the apple store directly, to save time.

this is because, if lets say my iPhone 3G S does pose some issues, and i send it back to optus, it will take optus at least two weeks (alleged) before sending it to apple for inspection.
