here is a taste of telstra's superior 3G network on the iPhone 3G S.

bear in mind that, the iPhone was in a confined building and situated down the basement.

Added on August 2, 2009, 9:40 pmif i do find employment in australia, i'm signing with telstra for sure!

their prices are too much for my consumption.

so with a student budget, i have to stick with optus at the moment

Being curious about procedure, I just contacted Australian customs regarding a question I had regarding the TRS (getting the gst back).

I was curious to see whether the entire product had to be present (packaging, cables, etc) or whether only the handset/receipt would suffice.

The reply (which I received within 5 minutes of emailing them) was that I only need the handset/receipt. Useful to know for anyone else traveling and purchasing for themselves - pack away the box, its ok :-)

@nokia2003,
hMm.. this crack thingy seems to be quite an issue amongst the White huh?!!

Also, heard of anyone with battery issues?! I've just been informed someone's AU unit's facing some batt issues.

it is the same with the black unit. just that cracks in the white units are easier to notice.
in the whirlpool forum, people mentioned that the battery is indeed an issue but they'll improve gradually after a few charges.

metlink

a journey of approximately 50 minutes with a combination of train and bus

chadstone is within the boundary of zone 1 and 2 and hence if you play your cards right, you might be able to get away with only one zone

LOL. i always like purchasing stuffs from the apple store.

i like the feeling of being served by personnel in bright florescent tee shirts biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

even though, they don't really hire good looking gals to work there (strangely enough)

perhaps, they don't like the idea of the personnel stealing focus from their beautiful apple products?

I'm buying an iphone in australia and will be using an australian sim for a bit while I'm there, but I don't want it to use gprs/3g to connect for data.

I know I can install a fake profile so it can't connect, but I would prefer to disable Data Roaming by setting my country as Malaysia (and obviously turning data roaming off!) so when I return I can put my sim here back in and surf away without problems.

Does anyone know how to set the country of the iphone? Is it based on the sim, or some other setting maybe when you activate it?

On a side note, after continuing my research... I've read that the australian iphones will not work here with local sim cards - they'll work in australia with my digi sim while roaming, but when I come back it wont continue to work. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Help would be appreciated.

@archive,
Am not sure if U can change country settings but if U can that's not going to help with ur solution. Your best option is to disable APN so U don't get charged for data services + when you're back in KL to delete that profile and voila u'll be once again connected.

I had a suspicion this might be the case. Can you advise at all on this?

Hmm.. another thing as well (oh I'm so full of questions today). As I have to attach it to iTunes to activate, does it matter what computer I use (so I don't have troubles when I get back here and want to resync it), or just so long as it is using my itunes account it should be ok?

@mrRighthand,
All U need is to go through the v comprehensive guide davidgary73 prepared - http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281. For Tips & Tricks, go to http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1000739.

@archive,
What other advise do U need? I suggest U go through this thread too http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281 biggrin.gif - depending on where U purchased the AU unit, it it possible it is a locked unit; if that is the case U wil need to get it unlocked.

if you are coming for a few days (less than a week), you can opt for optus prepaid services.

purchase the AUD30 SIM pack and it comes loaded with more than sufficient credit to access data on the net.

remember to change the plan to optus turbo cap.
