tinkerbel,

thank you for the information. its very helpful. and i've just got to their website and within the process of purchasing online, there is this statement which says:
'iphone 3G and 3GS purchsed at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iphone 3G or 3GS and connect to iTunes 8.2 to complete activation. Purchase limitations apply.'

i do not understand what they are trying to say, do u know? thanks again!

btw, u replied me that 'purchase units from the Apple Retail Stores are unlocked unit'. I know that there are 5 of these stores that sell unlocked and outright, but I would like to know how about if i purchase it online via Apple Online Store? are they outright and unlocked? sorry if i misunderstood your meaning! thanks for the help again!

DO a last backup of your working iPhone that you're gonna sell. Then click Restore. Once the process is complete, choose "Restore as new iPhone" and leave it at that. The recepient will getting fresh factory-default iPhone.

Grab your spanking new iPhone, activate it, then restore it from the backup you just did before from the already sold iPhone.

@tink

Seems like the pouch is the cause of it.

White iPhone 3GS Discoloration Due to Third-Party Cases.

Reports of overheating and discoloration on the new white iPhone 3GS have been circulating over the past week or so, but a new report [Google translation] from frenchiPhone (via Hardmac) claims that the discoloration is due to contact with some third-party cases and not associated with overheating. The discoloration reportedly can be removed by wiping the back of the iPhone with alcohol.
- After numerous calls to Apple technical service and maintenance of contact with a level 3 (engineer) the problem seems to come not from a hot 3GS but contact with some covers! This was evident by ourselves on a device with a small sticker (a warning not to listen to music too loud) remained stuck, part of the hull below remained white.

- A simple solution to the problem is to clean the back of the iPhone with alcohol, tested by myself I can confirm that it works and reassure you it is safe for your precious

No details have yet been revealed on which third-party cases may be responsible for the discoloration.
