this is bloody no good!
my 12months contract with optus will soon lapse and with unannounced launch date, I risk paying redundant money to keep this account going. Added on June 21, 2010, 3:28 pmgood day fellow melburnians! just a quick community service note: if you need a copy of firmware/iOS4 for the iPhone 3GS & iPad (because you have limited bandwidth or slow Internet speed), you are free to come down to Clayton and grab them from me. requests for the 3G will also be entertained. Added on June 23, 2010, 10:21 pm Added on June 23, 2010, 10:20 pmerm, looks like the 3GS 32GB is doing pretty well eh? ![]() This post has been edited by nokia2003: Jun 23 2010, 10:21 PM |

QUOTE(cusx @ Jun 24 2010, 10:28 PM) just wondering, depends on the network. If I bought my 3GS one month ago, lets say with Three or Optus, will I be illegible to upgrade my 3GS to iPhone 4 with a "small little fee" are there "promotions" like that ? like from 3G to 3GS you might have to pay a termination fee. anyway i really cannot comment much because it is up to the discretion, on whom you speak to. try checking the whirlpool forum for different experiences. |

rumours are hot that the release date is either on the 21st or 23rd July.
it is more likely to be on 23rd (a Friday and hence the subtle hint) and something about apple store staffs to report duty at 7am on that day and not allowed to take the day off. This post has been edited by nokia2003: Jun 30 2010, 04:50 PM |

to those were not here during the 3GS launch last year, here is a little recap.
cellular providers (for example optus) will typically launch the iPhones at midnight on the night of launch. hence for example, if the announced date is 23rd July. you can start lining up on the night of 22nd July. of course these are only applicable to those who wants to open/resume a postpaid contract with the respective cellular providers. apple stores on the other hand will probably open at 8am on the launch date. this fact is important to those who wants to purchase outright and unlocked units. of course it is important to note that you also sign up for a cellular carrier postpaid contract in the apple store itself This post has been edited by nokia2003: Jul 3 2010, 12:30 AM |

QUOTE(baretta @ Jul 1 2010, 08:36 PM) yes. contract is optional at the apple retail store.outright purchases and unlocked units are only available from here; no exceptions. for store purchases, you can either use local or foreign issued credit cards. no issues with that. cash purchases may be restricted and hence i would strongly advice that you stick to cards. a friendly reminder if you intend to claim the 1/10 GST from the airport prior to your departure; the name on the tax invoice/proof of purchase/receipt (derived from the credit card used to pay your iPhone) must match the name on your boarding pass and passport. QUOTE(elainor @ Jul 1 2010, 09:00 PM) yes. we will need to reload/top up the debit card with sufficient funds before heading to the store QUOTE(johnkor @ Jul 1 2010, 11:24 PM) try university market place. students are trying desperately to sell theirs off.i have seen a few on mine a few weeks ago. or else, eBay or gumtree. not sure if this constitutes as spam/redundant news, but the official iPhone 4 release by apple Australia & the Australian cellular carriers has to be announced by this Friday or a launch delay will be inevitable.
so fingers crossed ps: if anyone is interested, the MYR/AUD exchange rate as of today is at 2.7x |

QUOTE(g3n0c|d3 @ Jul 22 2010, 08:43 AM) ive recieved an email yesterday from optus saying they'll be giving free micro simcard with its attachable body (for normal phone sim usage) i was in telstra last week to convert my iPad microsim into a regular prepaid sim card, and the bloke attending to me, told me that he will participating in a workshop/training on the iPhone 4 on monday i.e. three days ago.i guess its just a matter of time now (well 30th July to be exact) but it seems that no pre bookings yet... i just couldnt help wondering why... its just a week before the launching.... so the networks are doing some sort of preparation at the moment Added on July 22, 2010, 10:47 am QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 22 2010, 09:07 AM) @g3n0c|d3, yup it is free; i summited my request last night.Did it say free? I thought it just said Get ! I'm still trying to figure out how Optus' multi-SIM works for more information, head over to here an excerpt from the said site; QUOTE Save time, get ready for your new Apple iPhone 4 The new Apple iPhone 4 uses a new Micro SIM card, which Optus is providing free and there is no need to wait until you get your new iPhone before you use it. The Optus 2-in-1 SIM means you can swap to this new SIM card today and then use it as your regular SIM in your current handset until you receive your new iPhone. You'll retain your current number, all you need to do is enter your last name and your mobile number, click find me to populate the form, check your details and click submit. QUOTE(stringfellow @ Jul 25 2010, 12:13 AM) Damn this! Why don't they accept online order? Looks like I have to physically line up at the Apple Store Sydney to secure 2 units. Bloody hell! for the iPad, the queue started at 4am in chadstone/end rant. With that out of my system, what time should I even line up? Don't tell me I have to line up on the 29th to secure 2 units and have to wait 12+hrs for the Apple Store to open!!? so i reckon for the iPhone 4 (which is so scarce), the line will probably start much earlier? |

Q: Can I buy the iPhone outright? A: Yes – only as a Pre-Paid handset. Pricing will be announced soon. but bear in mind that the iPhones procured by optus will be locked to the network. |
