hi, I'd like to know how's the bank tariff & charges if I purchase item online in usd.
btw, i'm holding hsbc c/c. Different bank charge differently?  hmm.gif
*
I did happen to post below in another thread today but since you asked, post here for your reference.

Date/Card/USD/RM Billed/Rate/EX Rate/Ratio

19 Dec/Amex/75/267.83/3.571066667/3.470762104/1.028899867
14 Jan/Amex/30/109.33/3.644333333/3.572562581/1.020089432
10 April/Amex/3128.74/11602.77/3.708448129/3.607688457/1.02792915
1 May/UOB/60/218.68 /3.644666667/3.560319931/1.023690774
18 April/UOB/48/177.67/3.701458333/3.627296141/1.020445585
1 June/HSBC/200/710.59/3.55295/3.472223573/1.023249202
9 July/Alliance/43.03/155.48/3.613293051/3.56400013/1.013830786

From above AMEX charge card admin fees for overseas transaction varies between 2%-2.8%
UOB 2%-2.3%, HSBC 2.3% and Alliance 1.38%. Above table does not represent actual charges as the currency may have fluactuated up or down from the day the charges were transacted.

As many said, Alliance do not charge admin fees but I guess Visa/MC admin fees itself is about 1%. If Amex reduce the admin charges to 2% instead of 2.5%, then it is competitive with other CC except Alliance.

Increase credit limit from RM10K to RM30K or RM40K? I don't think so. Increase from RM10K to something like RM15K on temporary basis, may be.

Added on July 20, 2009, 8:23 am

Assuming you have credit limit of RM10K. You spend and paid the bank, you ended up with RM10K again.

But what if you wanted to use RM30K in ONE GO? Your method does not work. And if you deposit RM20K into the bank, I know some overseas bank still list your credit limit as RM10K in their system so yet again, you can't swipe RM30K in ONE GO.
*
That's why it is good to have an Amex charged card together with CC.

So you're saying if I had RM1m in FDs with a bank, I could request for RM1m CL?!  In that case, RM40k start off CL on HSBC Premier Card is nothing considering U need about RM250-300k to become a PB with HSBC.

??? Where I got mentioned about RM1m in FD or how much. Think you quoted wrong person lah. Must be Monday Morning. tongue.gif

hi
i found my DA card, to exchange gift with point, need to pay for shipping...
while my another card, maybank, i exchange some last year, no need to pay any shipping..

please share, how about other bank credit card? need to pay shipping??
is DA abnormal, or maybank is too nice??
*
DA is the only card that I have which charges a fee for sending voucher via courier to me. Not only that, the points have expiry date.

As other mentioned, can go to Damansara Heights to collect it but finding a parking space there is tough sometimes.

Hi guys,I got some question now. I hope the people here can help me smile.gif notworthy.gif

My situation is like this. I did a cash withdraw on 2 bank. One is CIMB Bank and another one is Hong Leong Bank. I withdraw RM1k from both of them.

I do know that is the cash advance fee that I can absorb and I do ask some of my friend that do credit card.

I told them that I that I cash advance RM1k from 2 bank and I wanna clear the RM2k within the 20 days interest free. But they told me if I everytime also so discipline pay on time and don't let the bank earn any of my interest,he say the bank will recongize me a bad customer because always pay on time and don't let the bank earn any interest $$ and only earn the cash advance fee. So they all asked me don't always pay the full payment ontime. You must late 3 times or 4 times or pay half instead of full and let bank charge me abit then only bank will be happen.

I wanna know is it better to pay full payment on time or late and let the bank charge me ?

Any advice ?
*
Well, the moment you withdraw cash with your CC, you are immediately charged a fee and thereafter daily interet charges so the banks are happy.

Bro, if you really need cash, better you call HLB and ask for balance transfer to your savings/current account where you will not be imposed upfront fee and the interest charges is 0.5% a month (for 6 months plan) and interest charges is based on daily outstanding. Better than withdrawing cash where the interest is high.

QUOTE(Shinichi @ Jul 22 2009, 12:14 AM)
Stupid question here, for Giant/Tesco purchase, if we compare DA Visa 2% rebate and MBB Amex Gold 5x MR Points, which is more worth?
*
DA Visa 2% rebate
Spend RM200 will get you rebate of RM4
To note that you also be getting reward points. Assuming you redeem for Jaya Jusco RM100 voucher you need 20,000 points. That's equivalent to 0.5%.

AMEX Gold CC 5X MR
Spend RM200 gives you 1000MR points where you can redeem RM5 (200MR = RM1) or 2.5%
If you redeem for vouchers like Guardian, Dome, etc, then % will be higher by a little bit.

Therefore to answer your question, which is more worth, it is about the same and both also give auto AF waiver.
However, the pros of AMEX Gold CC vs DA Visa for groceries purchases as follows:

AMEX MR no expiry date whereas DA rewards points do have expiry date.
AMEX you can get 5X MR for groceries at more places whereas DA only at Giant & Tesco.
AMEX 5X MR not a promotion but DA 2% for groceries until year end unless they extend it.
AMEX do not charge courier fees for redemption whereas DA charges courier fee for vouchers.
Just to add AMEX you also get 5X for book purchases.

If comparing AMES Gold CC vs DA MC for 2% rebate then go for AMEX Gold CC as DA don't give you reward points for petrol transactions.

To add, SCB JustOne beats AMEX Gold CC and DA if you pump petrol and shop at TESCO/Giant on Fridays only laugh.gif

Call this number 603-22958877 to check status of your application.

For those of you who are considering applying for AMEX Gold CC, get the forms from Maybank Branch or download it. Then call above number, speak to an agent and ask for fax number. Fax your application to him and follow up with him on your application status.

I'm going to start working and i'm planning to get a CC. and i need some advices on these
1. most CC applications require a one month income slip, since I'll only begin to work in the mid of august and most likely the amount i'll get for august will be half of my salary, in this case, can i use that income slip for applying CC at the end of august?

2. i'll only use CC for some products which the prices are too high than i can afford (below rm3k-4k im sure), which CC has a most suitable interest for me that i might have to pay the debt for about less than a year coz i dont want to get high interest on that.

3. who set the minimum monthly payment? what does it mean of 5% of outstanding balance?
*
1. Tough for you to get a CC with 1/2 pay.

2. for your case, I would say better better to start saving for 6 months then only buy the RM3-4K stuff you want. Not wise to start praticing having debt the moment you start work. If you really want to buy something, better to get 0% installment plan but sometimes the price is higher compared to paying cash. For computer, harvey norman and get 0% interest installment plan.

3. Example, you charge RM1000 to the card, the minimum payment you need to pay is RM50 BUT you will be charged interest for the remaining RM950 at minimum stating from 13.5%, so better you pay in full what ever you charged to the card.

Bro, I will advise you again, don't start having debt the moment you start work. Start saving money from your salary and after 1 year see how much you can save even before getting a CC.

guys, just wanna ask some simple questions. I have just started work after graduation. This is the first month im working and will oni be receiving half of the salary as i joined in late. Im in need to apply for credit card, tink Maybank , to get the free interest monthly payment. I have to do this to help my dad with his medical condition.

1)My salary around RM2.7k. How much limit will they offer me?
2)Shud be ok to use offer letter to register rite?.I dun have any other loan or credit card or anything.

Tried reading this thread for more info, but would like more info based on the Maybank CC.

Thanks
*
StormZ, CIMB do offer 10 months 0% interest for education and hospital transactions, see below. Call CIMB up and ask them if it can be applied to your Dad's medical bills.

http://www.cimbbank.com.my/pdf/CIMB-Smart-...-ENG_150509.pdf

As for Maybank, you can try AMEX Gold CC where there is no interest charges for outstanding balance until end of year. However, your present income may not meet their income requirements. Just try apply no harm.

Anyone apply i.Pay Plan provide by CIMB which call flexi-payment?
Plan to buy a digital camera.
Is that easy to apply and approve by CIMB?
Thank you.
*
It should be easy to convert your charges to installament plans, just call CS. However please note you be charged upfront 2-3% depending on plan i.e. how long the plan. CIMB do offer 10 months installement at 0% and no upfront fees but that only applies to Education and Hospital bills.

Just for info, do check out Harvey Norman prices as they have installment plan at 0% and no surchage.

I am wondering which one is better VISA or MasterCard? Most banks now let you apply for both but i don't see the feasibility of it. Having 1 type of card should be enough and it reduces the possibility of you misusing your card. So I will be applying for one card only. The problem is that, which one is better or are they both the same? Which one is more widely accepted in Malaysia and worldwide. Hopefully someone can let me know more details. Thank you.
*
Both accepted worldwide. However there are advantages of having both Visa and MC. For example for Direct Access case, you'll get 2% rebate for petrol using MC and 2% rebate at Giant/TESCO for Visa card.

If you apply for both MC and Visa from the same bank, the credit limit will be combined.

For balance transfer you should have a separate account number, not sure about cash witdrawal. Best to call CS and confirm.

I don't think for HSBC you can convert your transaction to installment plan. You need to inform the merchant that have 0% installment plan with HSBC CC before you pay for it.

Went to MBB Treat Fair while wife was shopping. Got myself a free pen and pencil for signing up for online banking for my AMEX Gold CC. Actually they only gave me temporary pin number to use with my AMEX Gold CC where I need to go to MBB ATM to sign up for online access. While there saw a Targus bag which i liked and redeem for 25,000 points (my points mainly from my AMEX charged card where I get 3X for Turbo). To me it was very worth it because market price for the bag is RM249. Since so free waiting for wifey, went and request for my MBB Petronas Gold to be upgraded to Platinum when I haven't even use the MBB Gold Card once, haha

Must say, the Treat Fair is really crowded and was pleased with my Targus bag redemption. Going to start using MBB Visa at places that does not accept AMEX Gold or does not give discount with my other cards.

*
Read your CC Statement where it will state payable to <bank card centre> for <your name if applicable>

At the back write your CC account number, your name and most important your telephone number that they can contact you anytime. Me got many times bank in cheque without signing doh.gif So bank will call me up and I will go and sign it on the spot

QUOTE(ronnie @ Jul 26 2009, 05:39 PM)
Citibank doesn't have the machine to read/scan cheques, right ?

Got no idea if Citibank got machine to scan or not. For years I just drop my cheque into the drive thru box.

Card I can use with scanning machine to deposit cheque - HSBC (very cool insert card into machine, no need to key in card number), UOB, Alliance PBB and Direct Access.

Drop into cheque deposit machine - RHB, HLB and AMEX Charged Card.

Got no idea on Maybank CC as never use my Maybank Petronas CC before.

Good question as AMEX Gold CC online is via M2U where as Charged Card online log in at AMEX Website.

I just signed up for M2U for my AMEX Gold CC and notice that my reward points are stated as TP.

So, just called CS at 1800889559, CS confirmed that for AMEX Gold CC also refer to AMEX's website reward catalogue when doing redemption with MR.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Jul 27 2009, 12:55 AM)
@Aeon_Clock,
TP and MR are 2 different reward points system.  TP used for MBB cards whilst MR are for Amex cards.
*
As tinkerbel mentioned MR and TP separate system. Just to add, the points required are approximately the same for either TP or MR to redeem similar item. The difference is that AMEX you get 2X, 3X, 5X and 10X depending on what AMEX card whereas MBB you don't get 2X or more except for petronas card or MBB AMEX card where one will get more than 1X TP. Therefore, it be faster to collect points with AMEX when comparing to standard MBB CC.

Ya, i often curious why only the IT merchants always request the consumer to pay the merchant fee for them, is that someone start like this then the people follows? I think most of the shops that accept credit card must pay the merchant fee but they didn't ask the consumer to pay extra 2-3%.

For IT merchant, they actually can mark up the item's price by 2-3%, but not let the consumers feel not happy because they noticed there are some "hidden" fees on Credit Card payment.
*
Yah IT merchant usually ask for 2-3% when paying with CC. If IT merchant selling PC/Notebook at Recommended Retail Price, my suggestion is to go get it from Harvey Norman where they do not charge any surchage. Actually I just bought a Notebook for my son and charged it to AMEX without any surchage and even got RM100 discount for single swipe (i.e. no installment plan). But only the outlet at Ikano willling to give me the RM100 discount.

QUOTE(air @ Jul 27 2009, 02:29 PM)
Personally I think Charge card are more suitable for billing as they did not incur day-by-day interest charge(1.5% or 9% divide by 30 days)

MBB AMEX GOLD Credit is better when you purchase some electronics which above RM1500.
*
air ( I like your nickame), you won't be charged any interest for credit card if you pay in full before due date. Amex Gold Credit Card have one advantage over the charged card where the CC you'll get 5X MR for petrol and groceries.

Actually I am quite happy with MBB (or should it be AMEX staff) at Treats Fair yesterday. I did not bring my AMEX charged card but my wife did bring her supp. With my wife supp card, the CS transferred all my charged card MR to my AMEX Gold CC for my convenience to redeem stuff.
