QUOTE(Mayor @ Dec 27 2010, 04:10 PM)
195/55/15 Hankook v12 how much is it in Penang?

Currently using Conti ComfortContact - 1. Will it be different?
I think after changing my suspensions setup my front tire always botak..
*
a big different... CC1 is entree level and it's grip sucks...
big different about 2~3 step higher... should be around RM200~220...

BTW i'm using 1 set of CC1 and i can't wait to throw away this set of 185/60 R14 tires... might want ot upgrade to 15" or even buy others Michelin also will not buy another set of Continental...

QUOTE(hungryJack @ Dec 27 2010, 05:04 PM)
Can I know Dunlop Sport 01 205/55/R16 is a good tyre?
I mean in terms of grip in dry or wet condition.
Thank you.
*
ok ok la... but i think it should wear faster than PS3 or V12... coz it's wear rate is at 280 only, where as the other 2 is at 320... what price are you getting this???

Price list from Auto world...
205/55R16
Continental SC1 - RM390 Tmn Molek, JB (Jan 10)
Duro DP3000 - RM235 ZEP SG. Petani (Sept. 01)
Falken ZE912 - RM250 Masai Tyre & Battery, Kota Masai (Feb 10)
Federal 595 Evo - RM 325, Teoh Brothers Klang (Oct 10)
Michelin PS3 (Thailand) - RM430 Michelin Glenmarie (May 10)
Michelin PS3 (Thailand) - RM430 Michelin Chin Song Tyres - Puchong (Oct 10)
Nexen N8000 - RM 280 Quicksave, USJ (Oct 10)
Pirelli P7 - RM350 - Klang (Jul 09)

i prefer V12 if you want cheaper tires below RM300...

but still depends on what you want... Comfort??? Handling??? Noise??? apparently if you prefer to have better grip then you might need to sacrifice your comfort and noise a lil...

QUOTE(nmah @ Dec 27 2010, 06:03 PM)
I am new to tire and hope that all sifu's here can give me some advice.

My current tire size is 195/55 R15 and already been using it for around 4 years now. I travel around 50++ KM daily and most of the time will be on highways.
My friends recommended me to change to Michelin PS3. And i was quote at RM 285 each.

Please give your comments or can recommended something good.

Thanks in advance.
*
wow... RM285 a bit steep... PJ or Klang can get around RM250 only... where is our location...
PS3 is good but still depends on your preference and what you can pay for...

hello all sifu here, i have 2 questions on my mind and i hope i can get your replies asap!

1st- i got a wira and i think it is 175 /70 R13, tyre shop(at kuantan) quote me rm135/pc for good year duraplus or rm125/pc for falken(dont know what code). which 1 is better? i feel like wanna go for good year duraplus as HE CLAIMED that can go for 100k km. this car is for city use only so what i care is the DURABILITY AND SAFETY(good in wet road etc) only.

2nd- any good tyre recommend me at 205/55/R16? budjet around rm250/pcs. more to traction(performance) and care less about noise, bump etc. This car always go for outstation so you know la, safety is my 1st priority!

thanks ya im a newb in tyre lol so normally i just change the cheapest tyre but recently i found out tyre play an important role in an automotive field.
*
1st Question... duraplus...

2nd Question... Well that make me think of Hankook V12... smile.gif although it is slightly above your price but still below RM300... think about it...

you can read the review here...

base on the result... it does not even close to Hankook V12... what is your size??? what is the price for that KR20???

All sifu sifu ,i'm new to tire so i would like to ask you guys some opinion due to near CNY and going to back to home town...
So my car are Toyota Corolla 1.3 SE Ae111 year 1993....
1 - since my front tire almost botak soon...i going to change the rear tire to front and replace new tire to the back...??
2 - my tire size 13 stock...is the any brand recommend for comfort ,durable and safety...??
3 -  shop recommend around Jln Ipoh KL area...??
thanks all for concern
*
1) Yes you are correct... old ones in front and new at the back...
2) Michelin XM1
3) Not sure...

QUOTE(g00glesYYl @ Dec 30 2010, 10:18 PM)
my myvi tyres was 4 year ++. Now, even when i driven down to the even road, i start to heard some sound come from the old. i could not explain it, it sound like something stuck on my tyres or it is actually vibrating.

1) I am very worry and i guess this could be cause by types crack? balancing or alignment problem... or brake pad?? Anyone can help me?

2) so, i also plan to change tyres. i was been offer 145 for silverstone, 170 for goodyear in ampang for 175/65/r14. This is reasonable?

3) my all 4 tires also seem in same botak condition but i plan to only purchase 2 for front and keep the best 2 for back. This is wise move?
*
1) go and talk to the SC guys to find out... maybe like Stitch said mounting problem...

2) I rather go to Michelin with minor top up, should be around RM170/pc...

3) no... the older tires should put in front... the used tires should be put in front...

QUOTE(Rascal Stitch @ Dec 30 2010, 10:36 PM)
u might have 1 of d myvi's most common prob issue which is absorber mounting~
i rather top up a lil bit to get michelin then getting goodyear~
*
agree with you...

thank you bro for you kindly reply...you know a lot bout tire... biggrin.gif
Michelin XM 1 ...??my dad wanted for comfort type and safety during raining day...this the 1...??
*
you got not much choices for this size... and most of the tires at 13" and 14" is comfort tires... so the grip is not as good as Performance tires... i also have a AE101 with 5AFE engine at home... using 15" tires on 195/55 R15, the tires i use definitely perform better than those in 13" ones... that is the reason i change...
u can try out Hankook Optimo K415 also...

just make sure the weight of the tire and rim (New ones) is same or lighter than your stock ones...

from what i see your size should be 195/50 R15 or 195/55 R15...
FYI Bridgestone MY01 is worst than A drive... D01 and CC5 is not really better too... CC5 is entry level while D01 should be performance skip those if you wanna have safer drive...
Goodyear F1 GSD3 is king of wet but too bad it's noise is a lil noisier than Michelin PS3... PS3 is not as good as GSD3 in wet but it does it overall job slightly better coz it does gives you a lil more comfort and a lil more quiet drive... so is your choice between GSD3 (directional) or PS3 (asymmetric)...

Traction rating for the tires you listed...
1. Dunlop D01 (RM185) - A <performance>
2. Bridgestone MY01 (RM240) - B <sports touring>
3. Goodyear F1 (RM240) - AA <Ultra High Performance>
4. Continental CC5 (RM195) - A <entry level>
5. Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (RM245) - AA <Ultra High Performance>

others...
6. Hankook V12 Evo (less than RM200) - AA <Ultra High Performance>
7. Yokohama S Drive (around RM250) - AA <Ultra High Performance>
8. Bridgestone RE001 (around RM250) - A <Ultra High Performance>
9. Kumho Ecsta KU31 (less than RM200) - AA <Ultra High Performance>
10. Maxxis i-Pro (less than RM220) - AA <Ultra High Performance>

for me... i'm more towards grippy, quiet and a lil comfort...
1. Michelin PS3 - grippy, quiet, sidewall not too hard...
2. Hankook V12 - most comfort among the 3, grippy (about 90% of PS3), noise still ok ok
3. Goodyear GSD3 - grippy (especially in wet), side wall a lil hard, a lil noisy

others u can try is Maxxis i-Pro and Kumho ESPT KU31...
try to get those tires rated AA for traction rating...
tires i used b4 Michelin PS3 (now), Hankook V12 (now) on 2 rides... GSD3 did not dare to try coz my sifu said might not be my taste coz noisy... my fren did try out ESPT b4 not bad... almost 85% of PS3...

the best value for the current market now is V12... and i'm going to get another set for my old toy...

u need to survey around... look inside Lelong for Tek Ming in Sunway, then others u can go to Automotive Garage Sales to look around...
u can also use 185/60 R14 on your ride... u can have more choice of tires on that size... Michelin XM1, Michelin Certis, Yokohama C Drive, Goodyear Duraplus, Falken 912, Hankook V8RS, Hankook Blackbird and the new Conti CC5...
from those C Drive and V8RS is a lil more pricey coz C Drive is premium comfort and V8RS is performance level...
it depends what you want...

Maxxis is i-Pro is still new not sure about the quality yet... I like hankook V12 coz it provides you slight comfort that others does not give u... but if your suspension system is soft like Vios u should get harder sidewall tires to balance up to get better handling...

thank for the reply.  rclxms.gif

but currently i only looking to change 2 tires for rear, cuz last time i have only changed both of my front side due to budget issue la.
i wonder if i can use 185/60 R14 as my rear and 175/65R14 for my front?  hmm.gif
*
yes you can as long as the tires at the same axles is same size...

QUOTE(McIPH @ Jan 1 2011, 11:24 AM)
Yes you can. I am using it.
Anyone know what is the price for PP3?
*
PP3??? haha... it is PS3 Pilot Sport 3... what is ur size... should be between RM220~260 for 15" size...

QUOTE(anzen600 @ Jan 1 2011, 11:43 AM)
Hi Guys, I was wondering should I be sticking to my 14" rim or change it to 15'rim ?

I got an offer from the car shop ,15'inch rim (china rim)(RM 600) +yokohoma 195/55 dunno what model (RM 190 per tyre).

The question is :

Should i take the China rim or use back taiwan rim ? Should i stick to 14" or 15" ? any significant differences ?

Thanks bro~
*
i think that size mostly they will offer A Drive but that price is steep for A drive... C Drive can get around RM200 only better than A Drive... then u can get better tires for that kinda $$$ like Hankook V12 and 912 or even Kumho ESPT...
for the rims i advice you to get those Lenso or Advanti Rims...i just booked 1 set of storm series (light weight) at tek ming sunway... RM900 only... chine rims i'm a bit unease to use it...

used or new doesn't matter.

p/s: i already had the taiwan version in my garage but it was quite heavy. without tire tip the scale at 7 kg each which is quite heavy for a 16".
i need a lighter set.

why not try the lenso rims... or advanti... quite ok... i just booked 1 set of Advanti Storm Light Weight version, 4.9kg for 15"... u can try look for it...

maxxis i-pro is a ultra high performance tyre.
damn good grip on both dry & wet condition.
Only con is wear off very fast.
last me 43000K only.
can try it if u dont mind.
Anyway performance tyre wear off very fast.
*
43k km ok la... not bad... UHP tires is like that, PP2 wears even faster... or some others... the threadwear indicates it is around 320 should be ok... PP2 280 only and some others also... smile.gif
what tires have you used b4 the i-Pro and what tires are you using now???

haha thanks bro. I am looking at PS3 and AD07. Later when got more money only go for higher specs.
Kcng said AD07 is too soft and hence, poor durability. LOL wonder if that's the price to pay smile.gif
U're spot on, everywhere i read claims the superior dry grip of the AD07.
So which one u think I should get huh?
*
bro, you can't expect much from CC5 as it is at the lowest category in tire ranking (comfort)...
you have Comfort, Comfort Premium, High Performance, Ultra High Performance, Extreme Performance, Max Performance...

Comfort - CC5
Comfort Premium - Michelin Primacy, Continental CPC2
High Performance - Falken 912, Continental CSC1
Ultra High Performance - Hankook V12, Bridgestone RE001, Toyo T1R, Yokohama S Drive, Kumho ESPT, Goodyear GSD3...
Max Performance - Michelin PS3
Extreme - Toyo R1R or R888, Yokohama AD07/08

(Model is general base on categories, it depends the availability of your size...)

RE001 is expensive then or even PS3 and AD07/AD08... if not mistaken ur size is 195/50 R16 or 195/55 R15... what is ur size...
for 195/50 R16 you have limited choices... if not change to 205/45 R16 for better choice...
you can use PS3 actually which is good enough for most people... of course you heard mix results for PS3 coz some ppl used to Max/Extreme Performance Categories which give them maximum grip in dry but when they change to PS3 it does not gives them the grip they wanted but in wet, PS3 tops most of the Max performance tires where it give you good wet traction... and it gives you a lil comfort too, which the noise of the tire is minimal...
if you want value for $$$ then Hankook V12 might be good for you but it only available for 205/45 R16 for 16" size...

FYI a good 16" tires will cost you above RM300/pc, RE001 and PS3 is over RM300/pc... so if you are looking for value i highly recommend you the Hankook V12 (as you prefer to maintain the comfort), then Kumho ESPT or BF Goodrich

QUOTE(Rascal Stitch @ Jan 2 2011, 11:10 AM)
Performance > Durability > Price.

ad07 > re001/ps3 > bfgoodrich

oh,wait~
if i'm not wrong ad07 no longer in production edi~
hahahaa~
*
replaced AD07 with AD08 already... his size will not be cheap...
BTW ur ranking is good... AD series is good but it is pricey... RE001 and PS3 is nice but not really cheap too...

QUOTE(anzen600 @ Jan 2 2011, 01:41 PM)

for pricing and tires model that ppl buy or used please refer to here...

Price list Thread

for the size of 195/60 R15 you only have premium comfort tires... it does not contain any performance range of tires... Hankook V12 and PS3 starts at 55 series and below...
the choice of tires is Yokohama C Drive, Goodyear Assurance, Bridgestone GR90, Michelin Primacy LC, Toyo C1S...
entry level tires like Yokohama A Drive, Goodyear Ducaro, Bridgestone AR10, Michelin XM1, Toyo Teo Plus... depends what you want...
if you really want to get performance tires then then only choice is either upgrade the rims to 16" to use 205/50 R16...

ze522 made in indonesia sux big time. wet traction and grip is worst.
yokohama ar01 which is more expensive by about 20 bucks will be a better buy.
4.9kg for a 15" is quite lightweight. was it a taiwan or thai made?
i always pair a lightweight rim with heavy tire like re-001.
btw, lenso and advanti is not really my cup of tea. so far, i've only changed between oz racing variety, advan rc2 and 5zigen proracer.
but kinda tempted with the mugen gp wheels after a friendly run with a type-r a month back.

do you happened to know any kumho or federal tire dealer in kl area?
*
well i don wanna spend too much on the rims and neglect the tires as well as if anything happen on the roads i will not be that heartache... u know la... the road is really Malaysia Boleh...
if you refer back to the price list thread i attached on the post #2058... from there i see Klang and also USJ19 i asked from a shop just behind City Mall (Digital Mall previously)...

QUOTE(Zaypher @ Jan 2 2011, 07:02 PM)
Hi michael9413,

thank you for your elaborated reply, it is much appreciated.

My tyre size is 195/55 R15 and I don't intend to change tyre size.
Also, the tyre ranking is very very helpful and i'm quite surprised that CC5 is at its lowest ranking. Although I know that it is not good for spirited driving, the neo is still quite stable with CC5. Seriously, I think I have experienced the limit of the stock tyres more often than the car itself. LOL.

You rank Michelin PS3 at Max Performance which is quite good. The way I see it, Ultra HIgh Performance is better than Max Performance?
You guys are well informed, I did some research and the AD07 is replaced by AD08. Apparently, it enjoys great reviews. BUt I don't know what is the price. I tried searching the tyre price list but to no avail. Any idea?

From how things look, I'd go for PS3 and or AD series...
*
well AD series is extreme category but all tire in the category are not good in wet coz of their design...
if you want a all rounder which will not limit your wet speed to 80km/h then take PS3 for safety... 2ndly if you want to save more $$$ then you might be interested on V12... frankly speaking, the difference of PS3 and V12 is not really big bit the pricing is 3 PS3 equal to 4 V12... V12 gives you better comfort than PS3 but the handling is not as sharp as PS3... grip wise also it does not loose out by a big margin...

I'm using PS3 on Vios '05 (195/55 R15) but previously on V12, now the old V12 swapped to SEG ride...
i booked myself a new 15" and V12 (195/50 R15) for my old toy... i need better comfort so i need to compensating it with tires coz my old ride is a lil on the stiff side...
my parents is using the SEG they feel the V12 is nice also... previously it is on PP2, the sidewall is hard so the ride is a lil harsh... by using V12 it feel much nicer especially when we go over those bumpy stretch...

it depends to your needs...

BTW the price for AD08 for our size is over RM300 as i known of, so it is out of my list coz more than RM300/tire and in wet you need to drive more carefully... that is what i hate... once it rains and the road is wet u need to becareful coz the anti-hydroplaning of the tire is not good...

others tires which is not that good is Bridgestone MY01 (traction B - it wet grip SUX...), Yokohama A Drive (AA01) or A Drive R1 (AR01), Dunlop D01, Falken 552 and some others (traction A)...
when you buy tires try to look or Traction rating at AA... which is the best...
Traction is rated by international testing standard, which is the stopping distance on Wet Road... the short the distance the higher rating is it... (Best) AA > A > B > C (Worst)

try to take those stock below 1 yr... actually if you don mind 2 yrs also no problem as the tire life & warranty is 5yrs...
coz mostly all the higher range of tires will only last about 40k km, which comes to around 2 yrs time if you drive around 20k km per year...
i don mind taking 2 yrs tires at a lower price, coz it will wear off after 2 yrs...

it depends on personal preference... smile.gif

try to talk to them, if you have tires for trade in should not be any problem... PS3 at that size should be below RM250.... try to talk to others shop for pricing compare...

yes if you say track use they will not choose those you listed la... haha...
those ppl will get R1R, R888, 595 RSR or others Extreme tires... my fren on R888 195/55 R15, his ride is bumpy and drive slow when rains... well that is not what we wants during normal street driving lo... smile.gif

if street use PS3 is good enough... of course u need to pair the tires with ur suspension also to get the ride quality you want... different tires, different characteristic...

so still depends what is you expectation on your ride lo...

*seems u always praise RE001, will ask the shop whether can change my reserved tires to RE001 or not tomorrow...
then will make a decision which to put on my old ride...
wanna see how it fairs with my old toy setup coz the suspension setup is a lil stiff thats why i choose V12 but not PS3 as my tires... and of course i'm more interested to see how to goes on the wet too, coz it's traction rated at A only... smile.gif
