QUOTE(ronzai89 @ Apr 21 2011, 06:42 PM) QUOTE(mADmAN @ Apr 21 2011, 06:56 PM) i keep reading saying that KU31 is bang for buck....but not many mention why its bang for buck? hows the grip for dry roads? Good enough for spirited drive all day long... hows the grip for dry roads? hows the grip for wet roads? how stiff is the sidewall? is it suitable for track? all question compared to KU36, R1R and Potenza series hows the grip for wet roads? So So, not as good as Hankook V12 how stiff is the sidewall? Not as stiff as PP2 is it suitable for track? NO Which Potenza are you talking about... RE080, RE001 ???? RE080 is nothing la... just name only performance not so good... RE001 is better than KU31 but it cost about RM280/tire for 195/55 R15 now... but KU31 around RM240 kua... it is good for daily drive a lil bit more comfort than RE001, RE001 is a lil stiff for me thats y i skip it... and at that price... i opts for PS3 for better comfort and lasting threads... QUOTE(Edwin89 @ Apr 21 2011, 07:17 PM) Hey bros, I'm going to change sport rims for my Honda City 06. But I'm not sure that 16" or 17" is better. I've survey from some tire shop, they told me 16" and 17" tire/rims price is almost the same,so they suggest me 17". Is it true? 1st of all are you ready to put RM350~RM400/tire and around RM1500 to RM1600 for 1 set tire change... don keep on telling me 16" and 17" tires only cost you below RM300... those tires are not as good as your PP2 that you are using currently except Hankook V12 and Kumho KU31, they are close but i do not think they are still under RM300 now because recent price hike on all the tires... Btw,which tire is better? I'm using Michelin PP2 185/55R15. I need it quite, last and the price is reasonable. LOL. Michelin? Toyo? Hankook? Yokohama? Bridgestone??? Any suggestion for me please... Thank you if not skip 16" and 17" all tire shop will keep on asking you to upgrade... it is a lame excuse... your FC will be poorer and also u will feel sluggish on acceleration if your rims is much heavier than the stock... since you use to Michelin PP2... and you want it to be quiet (not quite), lasting and reasonable... y not trying the new PS3 at that size... should cost you less than RM250/pc kua... it is better than PP2 is every aspect, better grip in wet and dry, more lasting and a lil more comfort... although is noise department might be a lil more noisier but i found it is compensate by all the advantages... |

QUOTE(Edwin89 @ Apr 22 2011, 09:23 AM) Thanks Michael. Do you know how much is Michelin PS3 and Kumho KU31 in 205/45R16? How is Hankook V8? They quote me V8 RM300 for 205/45R16 and RM360 for V12 205/40R17. What different between rotated tire and directional tire? I'm really noob on this,so need some advice from professional like you. Hahaha I'm not pro la... just like to study into tire's practical usageV8 is older version of V12 la... V12 is the newer version, both is directional tires... for that price it works quite good... but directional tires are not quiet for your info... PS3 is Asymmetric tires which is slightly quieter than directional, it depends on your car noise insulation and also the air pressure you put... Is Kumho better than v8? thread life? well wet grip i think both also very near... but V12 is better as i heard... coz i never use V8rs b4... thread life also around there... depends a lot of car weight, the road condition that u always go thru and also ur driving style... i heard ppl using at MPV worn out after 30k km have to change, but my fren on Vios stock about 50% left for front and 70% at rear, used more than 20k km... mine better i think 70% for all round cos i rotate and only use around 15k km only... photo of my PS3 for your reference... taken during yesterday when i change my driveshaft boot cover... QUOTE(frint @ Apr 23 2011, 01:01 AM) hi sifu michael, not sure leh... Klang u can go to Jalan Kapar... Ban Hooi or Hin Leong... 185/55/15 i am using Goodyear NCT5. i feel very noisy and not comfortable. wavy for rear tires. but havent thin. if i change the front tires only, any effect? if i plan change to Continental or Yokohama C drive 2? Any recommend? cheap and quiet.. Where is cheap? Mind to give me the shop name? shah alam and Klang area and Kajang area.. thank you 185/55 R15... that tire i throw away after 50% wear... the grip in wet is sucks, down slope i brake slowly also it activated my ABS... after change to Michelin PP2, Hankook V12, now Michelin PS3 no such problem... even my PP2 wears until the thread indicator it's grip in wet is definitely better than NCT5... if you wanna have comfort... C Drive 2 is for you... never trusted Conti tires after 1 set, give me problem only... CC5 is a new tire but it is also an entree level tire, so it does not attracts me... i'm more prefer towards premium comfort or performance tires... as it the performance of both is better than entree level... skip Bridgestone MY-01 or the turanza series, Conti CC1/CC5/SC1, Yokohama A Drive, Michelin XM1/Certis, Goodyear NCT5/Exellence/Assurance and some others... those grip is ok ok although it's description is written with nice flowerish things but the grip isn't that good... Yokohama C Drive 2 have this size meh??? hmmm might consider it also if it has... i also need a soft tire for my conti... my prefer tire for 185/55 R15 Michelin PS3, this size is a lil odd also so many ppl change to other 195/50 R15 (alternative for 185/55 R15, closest size to it) or even 195/55 R15 (more comfort, a lil larger than ori size).. for 195/50 R15 or 195/55 R15 u can try few others like Yokohama C Drive 2, Michelin Primacy LC, Hankook Blackbird V2, Continental Premium Contact 2(premium comfort range)... then the performance range (performance tires normally a lil noisy and not as comfort as the premium comfort) u can choose Michelin PS3, Federal 595 Evo, Toyo T1R or DRB, Hankook V12, Kumho ESPT (KU-31)... happy surveying... |

that tire... not good in wet as i heard of... and noisy... Michelin PS3 will be better than it...
it has soft sidewall, so it is comfort but not good for high speed corner... the dry traction is ok, but wet is not as good as PS3 and Hankook V12 too... further more it is more expensive than V12, so i'll take V12 anytime for the value... PS3 should be around it's price too... so i couldn't convince myself to try it when i wanna change my tires last time... Hankook V12 do not have 205/50 R16... for me I can try both C Drive 2 or KU31... if you prefer comfort i think u better not upgrade to 16" as the tires is not as comfort as you get in 15"... for 15" u can try to put 195/55 R15 to get more comfort... and the tires is cheaper by around RM100/pc too... Hankook V12 205/45 R15 RM300++ but 195/55 R15 around RM220... PS3 195/55 R15 is around RM260 but 205/50 R16 is more than RM400... if you are not willing to pay more than RM300/tire pls stay put at 15" as the price increase the good tires at 16" will increase also... current 16" tires is more than RM300 already last time you still find Hankook V12, V8rs or Kumho KU-31 is lower than it... but now it seems the price increase has push them above RM300 already... further more you concern about the rim bent, lower profile tires will get cause that too... not only lightweight rims... then you FC, acceleration will be affect too...because of 16" u need more torque to turn the more heavy wheels, then u press ur accelerator harder, so ur FC will turn poorer too... it is individual choice... i put my stand at 15" coz i'm not willing to pay more than RM300/tire, i do not want to affect my FC too much, i do not want my FC increase by much too (although PS3 will increase your FC already)... lastly i do not wan the bent rim problem to0 coz the lower profile the tire is the more bumpy will be too... *** important*** u cannot fit 205/50 R16 into your City coz it is more than 3% of your OE (stock) size... maximum u can only fit 205/45 R16... this is the message i got from the online tire size conversion page... QUOTE Warning! When changing tire sizes, we recommend staying within 3% of the diameter of the original tire. Any more than this and you face the risk of brake failure. Online Tire Size Conversion page... key in you stock size and the new size it will tell you if it is ok or not... This post has been edited by michael9413: Apr 24 2011, 04:42 PM |

u need to find a set of nice lightweight wheels and stay up at 205 width... try 205/45 R17 and see...
but as long as u upgrade the FC will jump a lil even i did not upgrade my 15" i only change the tire from 185/55 R15 to 195/55 R15 will affect the FC too... then depends on the tire that u use... performance tire high rolling resistance to also affect FC too... frankly speaking... what is ur OE size??? u should go back from there... if you already upgrade ur rim or tire size then that should not be the reference for further upgrade... |

QUOTE(kobe10 @ Apr 24 2011, 05:27 PM) OE is 195 60 15. Hahaha... I upgrade to 205 50 16. But very hard to find tyres.. Saw V12 today at Teck Ming and so envy others can use but dont have for my size. If use 55 series then a bit heavy and not so nice during cornering. 50 is the nicest already. So no choice have to use V8. well... u can go for 215/45 R17... GY F1 Asy is nice... 205/55 R16 also u can use mah just nicely in within the 3% rules... u have Hankook V12 at that size... QUOTE(oczone @ Apr 25 2011, 12:19 AM) Hi guys, C Drive 2 am not sure... but V12 i changed at Jan with old tire trade in it is around RM210 per pc... Can someone update me the price for size 195/55/r15 hankook ventus 12 yokohama c drive 2 in klang valley? thank you QUOTE(ahsam1212 @ Apr 25 2011, 12:31 AM) Sorry, used the wrong term. I mean both ku31 n pp2 both need to roll in single direction only. Teo Plus is a comfort tire which means performance wise it will never beat PP2 or KU-31... the price is a lil high too coz made in JP kua... at 185/60 R14 it cost me at RM220 which is the reason i rather upgrade my rim size to 15" to use performance tire... How bout toyo teo plus? Any idea bout the pricing n performance? http://www.toyojapan.com/tires/pattern/tyt...tyteplus_01.jpg Would prefer non directional n symmetrical tyres for easier rotation, and quiet. QUOTE(phas3r @ Apr 25 2011, 12:58 AM) RE001 is from 15" onwards and RE050 is at 17" onwards... some website place RE005 or 005A at Max Performance which is 1 step up from the RE001 Ultra High Performance... for the threadwear rating RE001 is not mistaken was at around 280 or higher, but RE005 is at 140 which will wear faster then u expected... |

QUOTE(ahsam1212 @ Apr 25 2011, 09:58 AM) Seems better performance tyres mostly directional, I might give them a try. But, there's another choice in mind, hankook v8rs. How's the performance as compared to ku31 ? PP2 is out, unless it's cheap. Hehe. for your size 165/55 R14 the difference between KU31 and PP2 is not that big difference... around RM30/pc if not mistaken... but for 195/55 R15 then it should be over RM50/pc... depends on shop offer also... Are they similarly price? How much increase in fc to be expected as compared to entry level tyres? 5 % ? well not that much i think it is around 3%, depends a lot on personal driving style too... V8rs also not bad but it is a lil age, it had been replaced by V12 but too bad some of the sizes is not available on V12 too... |

In m'sia, the rain fall is no joke sometimes. We do get pretty wet condition as compared to other 4 season country. Is ku31 really suitable for wet n slippery road? my fren we are using summer tires... as bro yngwie said... rain and snow is different... 3% increase in fc is ok as long as i get more safety. No problem with that. all season tires must have some traction for snowy condition... us do not need it... my fren finished 1 set of KU31 and say it is cheap and reasonable... performance is like 90% of PP2 but price is cheaper by RM30/pc... during the time he install la... now he also sold the Kenari away already...some more it is directional, if the rear axle tire wear outside he can flip over to other side to use... QUOTE(yngwie @ Apr 27 2011, 07:51 PM) the reason kumho categorized the ecsta ku-31 as a summer tire is mainly to suit the european market where there are 4 season. unlike winter tire, summer tire class does not have a traction / grip on ice / frozen surface. ie; ps3, v12, f1 asymmetric falls into summer tire category too. raining and winter season is 2 different world. |
